It is Friday, and AEW Rampage was recorded after Wednesday’s Dynamite which is night 4 of Fyter Fest during Shark Week in Duluth GA at the Gas South Arena. The commentary team is Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone.
The Butcher and The Blade vs John Silver and Adam Page
Everyone starts in the ring, Silver rushes Butcher and Blade and gets in a lot of blows before they work him over in their corner with quick tags. Blade hits a slam and covers for a two count. Butcher tags in and keeps up the attack. He then tags in Blade and then lays him out in the middle of the ring and poses for the crowd. Silver tries to fight free and is brought back to Blade’s corner where Butcher is tagged in and taunts Page to draw him in. As the ref keeps Page out, Butcher rakes Silver’s eyes across the top rope.
Blade is tagged in and stomps a mudhole in Silver. Blade tries for a suplex and Silver reverses it and pages in Page who cleans house.
Page ends the sequence with a leaping clothesline from the top rope for a two count. Blade blocks a dead eye, and Page instead hits him with a spinning clothesline. The ref is distracted as Butcher grabs Page, tosses him into the barricade and then tosses him back into the ring for Blade to attack as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Silver has tagged in and then gets to clean house. Silver hits a suplex for a two count on Blade, and Butcher comes in to break it up. Blade is busted open. They get an assisted gut buster on Silver and as Butcher knocks Page off the apron, Blade hits a Doctor Bomb for a two count.
Butcher is tagged in and they set up to do a double team move on Silver, but he escapes out the back and tags in Page. Page is able to fight both Butcher and Blade, Page is able to dump Blade over the top to the floor. Page and Butcher hit with simultaneous clotheslines, and neither moves. Butcher calls for Page to do it again, and again neither move. They then attack each other, ending when Page escapes from a German suplex and hits a rolling lariat and then gets in position for the Buckshot.
Blade grabs Page’s foot and Page kicks him off, followed by Silver leaping onto Blade. Silver then enters the ring on the other side. He and Page hit a sequence of moves ending with Silver getting a German Suplex and Page hitting him with the Buckshot and the pin.
Winner: Adam Page and John Silver
We get a video package about Wheeler Yuta and Daniel Garcia meeti9ng on the Ring of Honor PPV tomorrow for the Pure Championship.
Claudio Castagnoli comes to the ring. He thanks the crowd for making him feel welcomed since he got to AEW. He says the Ring of Honor championship has been eluding him his entire career. He then gives some rah-rah babyface stuff about how he is only great because of the fans. He then says he will beat Jonathan Gresham because no one can hold a candle to what he can do in the ring.
Lee Moriarty w/Matt Sydal vs Dante Martin
They shake hands before starting.
They start with chain wrestling and end trading wrist locks and then Dante twists Lee over onto his back for a two count. They then switch to a different mode, with Dante hitting a leaping head scissors, and then a series of kickis. Dante hits a leaping drop kick, sending Lee to the floor as we go picture in picture.
This has started as a fantastic match, lots of hold/counter hold.
When we return to full screen, Dante is able to flip out of an arm bar, and follows up with a hurricanrana from the top. Dante then hits a leaping cross body and covers for a two count. They trade blows and the Lee locks in the Border City Stretch near the ropes. Dante gets the break in the ropes. Stokely Hathaway comes to the stage to watch the match. Lee gets in some stomps and picks up Dante. Dante reverses it into a side slam and covers for a two count. Dante goes to the top, misses the nose dive. Dante goes for a roll up and Lee rolls through, grabs the ropes and holds on for the three count.
Winner: Lee Moriarty
Matt has words for Lee after the match and asks if he wants to take the low road, so next week, he will be taking him on.
As Lee walks up the ramp, Stokely holds out a business card, and Lee doesn’t take it.
Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter vs Skye Blue and Ashley D’Amboise
Rebel with with Baker carrying a sandbag, as a sandbag is the only thing that can stop on Thunderstorm (and playing off the internet complaint that Thunder Rosa sandbagged Marina Shafir, which I disagree with)
A squash match where Baker ends it with the lock jaw.
Winners: Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter
We then get a video package about Wardlow.
Austin Gunn comes out with the rest of the Gunn Club for the rap battle. Much like Jim Ross, I have no idea who the judges in the ring are. Max Caster and Anthony Bowens come to the ring.
The Judge is L’il Scrappy.
Austin gives a decent white boy rap. Max Caster gives a bunch of crowd pleasing rhymes. This entire segment isn’t for me and is going on forever.ustin then chokes and ends by complaining that he’s not an Ass Boy.
It then becomes a brawl and the Gunns beat down the Acclaimed. Austin nails Caster with a trash can and stand tall in the middle of the ring.
Not as bad as one of Wednesday's segments, but it wasn’t good.
In our Main Event Interview with Mark Henry, Jay Lethal slams Christopher Daniels and Christophewr says he doesn’t have time for all of this and asks Mark to say his catchphrase so they can get the ring.
Jay Lethal vs Christopher Daniels
Caprice Coleman joins the commentary team. I know how this match will end, but in the end, I’m just happy to see these two in the ring together.
Lethal tries for a pre-bell attack and Daniels is ready for it. They start with chops and blows in the corners, and in the middle of the ring. Daniels is able to get an over the top rope elbow drop for a one count. Daniels hits an elbow block and covers Lethal for a two count. Lethal gets some chops, but Daneils gets a leaping leg lariat. The fight goes to the floor and we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Lethal goes for the elbow from the top. Daniels has been in control of the match through the break. Lethal hits a cartwheel drop kick on Daniels. He then takes Daniels to the top and tries to set up a muscle buster to lock Samoa Joe. Daniels is able to fight his way out and goes for a drop kick, but Lethal is able to avoid it. Lethal hits a thrust kick and takes time to recover.
Lethal tries to pick up Daniels, and Daniels is able to get a knee strike to escape and both men are stunned. Daniels gets a series of clotheslines and strikes in the corner. Daniels tries for a back elbow, but is able to get a BLue Thunder Bomb for a two count. Daniels motions for a BME and Lethal is able to get the Lethal Combination. Lethal goes to the top for the leaping elbow. Daniels gets a boot up, Lethal knew it was coming and landed to grab Daneils’s leg and get a figure four. Daniels instead reverses it and locks on a small package for the two count.
Lethal is able to get a high boot on Daniels and then goes for the Lethal Injection. Daniels dodges it and goes for Angels’ Wings. Lethal is able to get out of it and hits the Lethal Injection for the three and the win.
Winner: Jay Lethal
After the match, Lethal and his team beat down Daniels, and Lethal locks on a sleeper and we are desperately out of time!
