If you cast your mind back to April 6, 2014, or perhaps more specifically WrestleMania XXX, then there will be one moment that will stand out and be remembered forever.
Of course, it was the Pay-Per-View in which The Undertaker’s legendary 21-0 WrestleMania undefeated streak would finally end at the hands of Brock Lesnar and shock the entire world in the process. We have all seen the memes that have emerged of the guy who was in the crowd for the special moment and how dumbfounded he appeared after hearing the bell be struck following the pin.
Indeed, it was a result that was kept secret by many within the WWE, let alone made public knowledge, thus further highlighting just how well the company was once run. WrestleMania is a huge event that continues to attract a number of sports betting enthusiasts and those who use the sites not on gamstop will have been left just as shocked as those in New Orleans on the night at what had happened in the middle of the ring.
However, it seems there are some that are not quite happy with what had happened in 2014, with one former WWE legend revealing their thoughts on the matter recently.
Diamond Dallas Page had stated on the latest episode of his DDP Snake Pit podcast that he felt that Bray Wyatt should have been the man to end the streak and not Lesnar. Indeed, Wyatt and The Undertaker battled each other at WrestleMania 31; a match in which ‘Taker won.
“What sticks out to me the most is, why wasn’t Bray Wyatt the one who stopped Taker’s streak?” Page asked. “Then you could have just kept on going and have him take on the streak. I don’t know why, personalities, politics, I don’t know why. I don’t know why they do certain things.”
He would not have been the only person to have thought that someone other than Lesnar would have been best breaking the streak, either. Lesnar was already a star and there would have been no real shock or upset if he had come out with a defeat, while it could be argued that someone with a little less star appeal could have benefited, especially a Superstar like Wyatt who continued to emerge as one of the biggest stars within the promotion at the time.
However, while it is easy to live in the past, it should be remembered that neither of these two athletes is active with the WWE anymore. The Undertaker was recently inducted into the Hall of Fame after seemingly confirming his retirement, while Wyatt ended a 12-year career with the company in 2021 and as he was released.
It remains to be seen regarding what he does in the future, and whether he returns to the promotion that he worked with for so long - as did his dad, Irwin R. Schyster (IRS) (Mike Rotunda) - but one thing is for sure: many will want to see him be booked a whole lot better moving forward!
