COMPLETE AEW DYNAMITE FYTERFEST WEEK TWO BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2022-07-20 20:25:00

It is Wednesday, and it’s time for this week’s AEW Dynamite which is night 3 of Fyter Fest during Shark Week in Duluth GA at the Gas South Arena. We started with a commentary team of Excalibur, Taz and Tony Schaivone.

Brody King vs Darby Allin

Darby starts with a drop kick, knocking Brody to the outside and then leaps through the ropes, but gets caught on the ropes and it allows Brody to toss him into the barricade and then one handed choke him against the ring post. Brody then tosses Darby into the ring and just beats the tar out of him. The announcers are trying to make it seem like Darby has a chance, but as I watch the match it’s like watching a 7 year old try to fight his dad.

Brody then goes after Darby on the floor and tosses him into the barricade. When they return to the ring, Darby gets a few hits and Brody ends it with a single blow. Darby then gets tossed from the ring again and we go to picture in picture. Again, please enjoy the short career of Darby Allin.

When we return to full screen, Brody tosses Darby into the screen again. Darby rolls to the outside across the ring. Darby has a belt and wraps it against Brody’s feet and then pummels him and then hits a cannonball from the ring to Brody on the floor. They go back into the ring and Darby gets a single coffin splash, and Brody stops him with a chioke, and then ties him to the tree of woe for chops.

Brody goes for a cannonball and Darby dodges and hits a Code Red on Brody for a two count. Darby then puts on a rear stretch, and Brody powers out. Darby puts on a rear naked choke and Brody gets up and cannonballs into the corner with Darby on his back. As the both get up, Darby takes the pad off the turnbuckle and pulls him into the buckle.

Brody is able to grab Darby and chokes him out, drops him to the floor and Darby lays on the floor as the ref counts. Darby is able to get in the ring at 9. Brody hits a Gonzo bomb and covers for an easy 3.

Winner: Brody King

He chokes Darby out again and Sting comes to the ring. Sting is able to get control quickly and sets for a scorpion death drop and the lights go out. When the lights come up, Malalai Black and Sting are face to face with Brody on the mat. Black hits the balc mist and Brody locks on the rear choke.

We then get Miro on his way to the ring. He stops halfway down the ramp. And that’s where we leave it.

Tony starts to talk to Cole Carter and Team Taz shows up with Ricky Starks talking about how he will keep the FTW title. Cole steps up to him, and says he will win tonight in a rather generic way.

Best Friends vs Wheeler Yuta and Jon Moxley

Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta are wearing the Young Bucks old outfits again this week.

Orange Cassidy and William Regal join commentary.

Trent and Mox start off with Mox getting a go behind take down and then they are back up to their feet. They trade holds and then go to chops in the middle of the ring. After some more strikes, we get Yuta tagged in and he calls out Chuck. They lock up and go to the corner twice with clean breaks. They run the ropes with Chuck getting a shoulder tackle and a one count. They chain wrestle to the ropes and this break isn’t as clean as Trent tags in and he and Yuta brawl into Trent hitting a suplex.

Trent then goes in to attack and has to be pulled off by Chuck. Chuck and Yuta brawl and as they get heated, we go to picture in picture. Since Trent came back from his surgery, he’s been more interesting, with snappier attacks and a mean streak.

When we return to full screen, Yuta is able to get a side suplex on Chuck as Donaiel Garcia looks on in the back. Trent and Mox are tagged in and when Chuck tries to stop Mox’s attack, he tosses him to the outside and tosses him over the timekeeper’s table. Trent tries to attack when he gets into the ring, but leaps into a cutter by Mox for a two count. Mox then stomps his head in and tags in Yuta. The tag bell rings and all four men are in the ring.

Mox is taken out and Yuta takes a pile driver from each one of the Best Friends and Trent covers for a two count. The Best Friends try for a Strong Zero and Yuta shoves Trent into Chuck. Trent hits the reverse pile driver and holds on for a two, broken up by Mox charging in. CHuck takes out Mox and all four men are down.

Trent and Yuta are up and the others roll to their corners and they brawl. Trent is tossed outside and he tags in Chuck. Mox locks in a figure four, and Yuta and Chuck attempt finishers. Yuta is able to get on the Safety Belt and holds on for the three.

Winners: Wheeler Yuta and Jon Moxley

The announcers discuss Yuta vs Daniel Garcia for the Pure Title at the Ring of Honor PPV Saturday and then get a video of Jonathan Gresham vs Cludio Castagnoli.

Chompy, the mascot of Shark Week joins the commentary team.  No, really.

Tony Schiavone is in the ring for a celebration of Swerve in Our Glory winning the tag team championship. They are interrupted with a “You deserve it” chant. Swerve points out Kevin Gates who is at ringside. Keith Lee asks him when he is dropping the deluxe version of his new album. Lee then expresses his gratitude to the crowd. He says if anyone wants to a chance, they had better reach.

As they leave the ring, Mark Sterling and Tony Nese interrupt. Mark says the petition to remove Swerve from the roster is almost complete. Mark then says he wants Kevin Gates to sign the petition. Well, there’s a cake, so…

Kevin Gates punches Nese and Swerve tosses the cake into Sterling’s face.

“Oh, for fun,” Every Minnesota Mom seeing a “funny” slapstick bit.

In the back, Silver and Reynolds are with Butcher and The Blade with Tony Schiavone. They give Butcher and Blade shirts that say Butych, and Butcher and Blade beat them down. Adam Page chases them off with a chair and I am just confused by the whole thing.

Christian Cage is out next to piss off the crowd. Luchasaurus joins him and the crowd hates them. Loudly.

Varsity Blonds vs Christian Cage and Luchasaurus

Have the Blondes won a match since Julia Hart turned on them?

Cage goes to start with Pillman, but he then charges in Luchasaurus. Pillman charges Luchasaurus and gets a head butt for his trouble. Griff Garrison is tagged in and then double team them for a bit and Luchasaurus wipes them both out. He then choke slams the Blondes into each other and Cage tags in to get the pin.

Winner: Christian Cage and Luchasaurus

As they are celebrating, Jungle Boy shows in street clothes with a chair. He and Luchasausus stare at each other, but then Luchsaurus steps aside and JB goes after Cage through the crowd. WT actual F?  This feud is making less sense the longer it goes.

Lexie is in the back with the Gunn Club and asks why they declined a match with the Acclaimed. They say on Rampage they will fight Max Caster one on one in a rap battle for the stipulations when they meet.

Jim Ross makes his entrance.

Ricky Starks (FTW Champion) vs Cole Karter

Ricky takes control quickly with strikes and tosses to the corner. Karter is able to get in some blows and a drop kick. Karter is able to keep up the attack and tosses Starks to the floor and we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Karter is keeping Starks down with clotheslines and an elbow for a two count. Karter doesn't follow up so Starks is able to recover and goes for the rochambeau. Karter escapes and gets a back drop and goes for a 450 that misses from the top. Starks gets a spear and covers for the three count.

Winner and Still FTW Champion: Ricky Starks

Ricky grabs a mic and says he has more in the tank and asks for another challenger.

Danhausen is out to answer the open challenge.

Starks then says he didn’t mean RIGHT now, so he needs time to get his neck right for a match next week.

In the back, Tony Schiavone is with Athena, Kris Statlander and Willow Nightingale. Kris will not be in the match and they say it was discussed on social media. So, I have no idea why.

Next, in the ring, we get FTR to talk about their match at Death Before Dishonor this weekend with Tony Schiavone. They advise that if the Briscoes want the titles, they will have to take them from their cold, dead hands. Dax tells the story of his daughter’s heart issues and how she has overcome them. And he says he’s gonna fight that hard to bring home the titles.

In the back, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Satnam Singh are interrupted by Christopher Daniels tells them he will be in the ring Friday and if they want to talk tough, meet him there.

Jade Cargill and Kiera Hogan vs Willow Nightingale and Athena

Jade grabs a mic and doesn’t tell Tony to cut the sh**.  Now, you may say “Cory!m Tony’s not around.” My answer is, when has logic ever stopped her from saying that catchphrase for no reason?

Athena and Keira start out as Jade dodges Athena’s attack. They run the ropes and dodge each other’s attacks. Keira is able to knock down Athena, and then preens to the crowd, allowing Athena to drop her. Willow is tagged in and they run the ropes. Willow tags in Athena and then slams Athena on Kiera.

Jade refuses the tag, and Athena drops Jade with a punch.  She then tags in Willow who comes in and hits a cannonball onto both Jae and Keira on the floor, and then Athena hits a flying cross body as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Kiera has just gotten a 2 count on Athena. Athena is able to recover and tags in Willow, who hits a series of clotheslines and chops on Kiera, and then follows with a spine buster. Jade breaks up the pin and tosses Willow out of the ring. This leads to Jade and Athena face to face in the ring and they trade blows. Athena misses the drop kick and Jade hits a kick. Jade is able to get a fall away slam and Athen is up as well. Jade tries a pop up slam but Athena switches it to a double knee drop.

THAT looked impressive.

Jade rolls out of the ring and Athena follows and Keira tries to leap onto her, but Athena catches her and slams her on the apron. Stokely distracts Athena and Jade tosses her into the ring step. In the ring, Willow gets a jaw breaker on Keira.  Jade trags in and Willow grabs her in a small package for a two count. Jade is able to hit the Jaded for the three count.

Winners: Jade Cargill and Kiera Hogan

In the back, Tony is with Thunder Rosa and Toni Storm. He talks about the Fight for the Fallen and how Thunder Rosa will defend her title against Yamashita.

They are interrupted by Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter who let them know they will be fighting on Rampage this week.

The shark cage is lowered. There is barbed wire everywhere, apparently. Even on Justin Roberts' microphone.

Barbed Wire Everywhere Death Match: The Painmaker Chris Jericho vs Eddie Kingston

Hager, Parker, Menard and Garcia are locked in a shark cage.  Not Guevara or Conti.  Kingston grabs the mic and immediatley goes to work on Jericho and busts Jericho open immediately.  Action spills to the floor and Kingston chokes him and bites the wound. Jericho hits kingston with the wire draped ring bell. Jericho goes face first into a table with, you guessed it, barb wire.  Kingston sends Jericho into the ropes. Kingston rakes Jericho across the wire.  Kingston nails Jericho with a chair (wrapped in wire).

Jericho punches back and hurancanranas Kingston onto a table which is adorned in barb wire.

(for the sake of argument, let's agree from here on out that every object these men run into or get hit with is barb wire tainted)

We're back and they're trading right hands. Jericho goes into the ropes. Ruby Soho has the keys to the shark cage as well as the controls.  Kingston sets up a table. His back is sliced open pretty good. Kingston suplexes Jericho through the set up table. Tay Conti runs out and assaults Soho. Anna Jay makes the save but immediately turns on Soho.  TayJay is back together. Anna Jay lowers the cage and Conti unlocks it, or at least she tries to. The key doesn't work so the guys squeeze through ther bars.  Ortiz, Wheeler Yuta, Jon Moxley make the save.Exploder by Kingston through a table for 2.  Codebreaker by Jericho for 2. Jericho goes for a lionsault but Kingston throws a chair at him. Backfist for 2. Razor Wire assisted Stretch Plum by Kingston. Sammy Guevara makes the save. Judas effect with wire wrapped around Jericho's arm and he scores the pin.

WINNER: CHRIS JERICHO

Kingston attacks Jericho and throws him into the barb wire spider web as we go off the air
