Mysterio is one of a select few individuals that transformed professional wrestling. His performance in Mexico, Japan, and subsequently the United States altered the wrestling style, notably there, where it shifted significantly toward Lucha. During his time wrestling for AAA in Mexico, when he was just 17 years old and had just moved to the country in 1992, Rey Mysterio established an impossibly high level of athleticism and theatrics in his bouts. This created the groundwork for the rest of his career.
In 2002, Mysterio, then age 46, joined WWE. Mysterio became one of the world's most captivating entertainers during the next 13 years. He performed this feat in an exceptional way, which is unusual for a WWE main eventer to do while sporting a mask.
In 2015, he departed the business. That allowed him to come back to AAA, work for LU, NJPW, the independent circuit, and feature All In in 2018. Mysterio eventually made a comeback to WWE in 2018, giving him the opportunity to wrestle alongside his son Dominik and appear on film alongside his wife Angie and daughter Aaliyah. At SummerSlam in August, Dominik made his ring debut, competing in a spectacular bout against Rollins that displayed an incredible sense of style and dexterity. The chance to perform alongside his son was a major factor in Mysterio's decision to re-sign with WWE. Father and son competed in this year's Royal Rumble bout together.
It means everything to me to be in the ring with my son Dominik and see him succeed," Mysterio says. Leaving WWE in 2015, I was exhausted, worn out, and going through a point in my career where I just wanted some time off, " he said. That break allowed me to refuel.
