Zack Sabre Jr vs. KENTA; Takagi vs. Juice 7/17/22 Results from New Japan’s G1 Climax 32 From Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan:
YOSHI-HASHI and David Finlay vs. Tom Lawlor and Royce Isaacs
Team Filthy is good at getting a reaction from the crowd in Sapporo. Finlay has an aggressive personality in this tournament as he tags himself in twice.
Finlay hits Trash Panda on Isaacs.
Finlay pins Isaacs.
Bad Luck Fale and El Phantasmo vs. Lance Archer and TAKA Michinoku
ELP hits TAKA with Sudden Death.
ELP pins TAKA.
SHO, Yujiro Takahashi, EVIL and Dick Togo vs. Aaron Henare, Jeff Cobb, Great O-Khan and Will Ospreay
Cobb double suplexed both SHO and Togo. Cobb then threw Togo into the arms of Henare who locked in Ultima.
Togo submits. United Empire gets the win.
After the match, O-Khan announced the role call of United Empire and said they will dominate the G1 Climax.
Fun match! Both heel teams tried to out-cheat the other. Ospreay looked pumped up to be teaming with his partners. Henare gets the submission win which puts him over even more in the wake of his victory over Tanahashi. Henare is being booked like a beast.
Chase Owens and Jay White, with Gedo vs. Tama Tonga and Jado
Owens pins Jado after a C-Trigger.
Good heat between Tama Tonga and Jay White.
BUSHI, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. Hirooki Goto, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada
Tanahashi pins BUSHI after a High Fly Flow.
G1 Climax Matches:
B Block: Tomohiro Ishii vs. Taichi, with Miho Abe
Taichi dazed Ishii with an open hand slap to start the match. Taichi kicked Ishii in the head, mocking him. Ishii nailed a stiff elbow to the jaw which put Taichi on his back. Ishii pushed Taichi into the corner and hammered him with chops and elbows. As Taichi is on the mat, Ishii calls Taichi by his shoot name “Taichi Ishikari”, which got a pop from the crowd, but potentially disrespectful.
Ishii kicked Taichi in the head, as a receipt for what happened earlier. Taichi fights back with his own kicks and drops Ishii with an enzugiri. Taichi crushed Ishii’s chest with stiff kicks. Taichi goes for a Dangerous Backdrop but Ishii reverses and hits one of his own. Ishii hits a delayed superplex from the second rope. Two count. Ishii gets ready for a lariat. Taichi kicks him in the arm. They both hit Axe Bombers. Taichi drops Ishii with a hard elbow to the jaw. Ishii gets to his feet. Taichi hits a high kick, an Axe Bomber to the back then a kamagiri to the face. Taichi plants Ishii with a Last Ride. Ishii kicks out at two.
Taichi goes for Black Mephisto, but Ishii reverses out. Taichi slips out of his grasp and hits a Dangerous Backdrop, with Ishii landing on his head. Two count only. Ishii fights back with a drop kick. Taichi hits a drop kick of his own. Ishii with a German suplex. Ishii with a lariat. Taichi with an Axe Bomber. Taichi with another Dangerous Backdrop, with a bridge. Two count. Ishii is clutching his neck.
Taichi goes for Black Mephisto. Ishii slips out and hits a headbutt. Taichi takes him down with a sumo throw. Ishii with a shoulder block and an enzugiri. Ishii with a sliding lariat. Two count. Ishii goes for a brainbuster but Taichi slides out and hits another high kick to the face. Ishii throws a headbutt. Taichi counters with a wicked elbow and Ishii slumps to the mat. Taichi picks up Ishii and hits Black Mephisto.
Taichi pins Ishii.
Taichi earns 2 points.
Good match. Nice win for Taichi in his hometown of Sapporo.
A Block: Toru Yano vs. JONAH
Bad Dude Tito is at ringside with JONAH.
Yano tried to offer a free t-shirt to JONAH, who tossed it to the mat. Yano goes for his shirt and JONAH attacks him. Yano blinds JONAH with the shirt and rolls him up with a school boy pin. Two count. Yano tried to hit a belly to belly suplex but he could not get his arms around JONAH. JONAH takes him down with a shoulder tackle. JONAH grabs rolls of athletic tape out of the pants of Yano and the referee takes them. Yano avoids an attack off the ropes then slaps JONAH in the back of the head calling him “stupid”. JONAH chases Yano from the ring but Bad Dude Tito corners him. JONAH bounces Yano off the guardrail and stand on his back. Yano throws him in the ring and hits a leg drop. Two count. JONAH grabs Yano in a bear hug and Yano screams in pain. Yano gets to the ropes.
JONAH hits an elbow off the ropes. Yano avoids a senton and goes for a turnbuckle pad. He gets the pad off but JONAH hits a running splash from behind. Yano goes front first into the metal turnbuckle. JONAH goes for another running splash but Yano moves and JONAH hits the metal. School boy by Yano. Two count. JONAH with a body slam and hits a running shoulder tackle. Yano is dazed, but he hits a reverse atomic drop and finally hits a belly to belly suplex off the ropes. JONAH drops Yano with a body block then a senton splash. JONAH goes to the top rope but Yano rolls to the floor. JONAH chases him to floor and throws him into guardrails. The referee starts the count. Yano tries to escape to the locker room. JONAH follows. JONAH picks up Yano to take him to the ring. Tito comes to help. Yano slides off of JONAH and throws Tito into JONAH. Yano hits a double low blow on both men. Yano runs back to the ring and JONAH is counted out.
Toru Yano wins by count out and earns 2 points.
C Block: Zack Sabre Jr. vs. KENTA
Heated words between ZSJ and KENTA as they enter the ring. Both calling themselves “sempai“ which means “an upper classman who mentors a lower classman (kohai)”.
They exchange stiff elbows into the face. They trade boots to the head. KENTA throws a hard knee into the gut and ZSJ falls to the floor. ZSJ bounces off the guardrails. KENTA hits a DDT on the floor. KENTA drags ZSJ to the ring and kicks him in the face, mocking him. ZSJ goes to the ropes as KENTA continues to kick him. ZSJ grabs KENTA’s leg and applies an ankle submission. ZSJ breaks on the referee’s count and drags KENTA to the floor. He wraps his leg in the guardrails trying to snap his ankle. ZSJ drops a knee on the injured leg.
Back in the ring , ZSJ goes after the leg and ankle. They kick each other in the back. ZSJ goes after KENTA’s neck with two neck twists. ZSJ attacks the left arm with a hammerlock and a stomp. KENTA removes the turnbuckle and throws ZSJ into the metal bolt. KENTA drops him throat first on the rope and hits a lariat from the top rope. KENTA tries for an STF. ZSJ wiggles out and goes for a Dragon sleeper. ZSJ twists KENTA into submissions and goes for a pin. Two count. They exchange strikes and elbows. KENTA traps ZSJ around the neck and hits a Green Killer off the ropes. KENTA with running boot, then a delayed drop kick to the face. KENTA hits a double stomp off the top rope. KENTA tries for Go To Sleep. ZSJ kicks his way out. ZSJ hits two loud open handed slaps to KENTA’s face. KENTA fires back with his own open hand slaps and beats ZSJ to his knees then to his back. KENTA tries for GTS again but ZSJ traps him in a rear naked choke. ZSJ keeps transitioning to different submissions. ZSJ grabs an ankle lock. KENTA pulls him toward the open turnbuckle. ZSJ stops himself from hitting the metal. Out of the corner, ZSJ charges at KENTA, who hits him in the face with a knee. ZSJ goes limp. KENTA follows with a Psycho Knee. Two count. KENTA hits another Psycho Knee and goes for the cover. He pulls up ZSJ at two. KENTA kicks ZSJ in the head. He pulls him up again at two. KENTA hammers ZSJ with slaps. ZSJ goes for an arm submission. KENTA wiggles out and ZSJ goes for a leg submission. KENTA tries to get to a stronger position and continues to slap ZSJ in the face. ZSJ grabs his arm with his leg under KENTA’s chin and pulls on his arm hyperextending his elbow.
KENTA taps out.
Zack Sabre Jr. earns 2 points.
Great match. KENTA’s ego got the better of him and that lead to his loss. This match is one to check out.
D Block: Shingo Takagi vs. Juice Robinson
Juice comes to the ring with the IWGP U. S. Heavyweight Title. He was stripped of the title due to injury and Will Ospreay is the Champion on record.
Juice attacks at the bell. They battle to the floor. Juice throws Takagi into the guardrails. Takagi hits a shoulder tackle and drops Juice face first on the apron. Back in the ring, Takagi takes control of the match. They battle back to the floor. Juice drops Takagi chest first on guardrails then into the ring post. Juice crotches Takagi on the guardrail and hits a clothesline.
Takagi is almost counted out. They exchange chops and punches. Juice with a back suplex and a senton. Two count. Juice gets a chin lock and slows the pace of the match. Takagi punches his way out. Juice hits a leg lariat. Two count. Juice punches Takagi in the face but Takagi throws him across the ring with a Saito suplex. He hits a senton on Juice. Takagi throws a bunch of punches and hits a DDT. Takagi hits a version of the Bladebuster. Takagi drills Juice with elbows to the chest. Juice fights back with a lariat, a shotgun drop kick and a cannonball. Two count. They battle to top rope and they trade headbutts. Juice hits a superplex. Juice with a Full Nelson Bomb. Two count. Juice hits a gut buster and goes for Pulp Friction. Takagi reverses into a Noshigami.
Takagi hits a Wheelbarrow Suplex and a sliding lariat. Juice rolls up Takagi grabbing the tights. Referee does not count. Juice pushes the referee. Takagi hits a lariat on Juice. Takagi with a GTR off the ropes and follows with a Pumping Bomber. Two count. Juice fights out of Last of the Dragon. Takagi hits him with lariats. Juice hits the Left Hand from God and nails Pulp Friction. Juice is slow to cover. Takagi kicks out at two.
They exchange lariats. Juice hits two Left Hands from God and another Pulp Friction.
Juice pins Takagi.
Juice Robinson earns 2 points.
Juice takes the mic and says “the dragon is dead”. He repeats that he is the IWGP US Heavyweight Champion and he will win the D Block.
Another good match. Juice is a great heel and looked solid going head to head with Takagi. I think his joining Bullet Club was a good idea. One note, it looked like there may have been a miscommunication towards the end of the match, but they got where they needed to go.
