AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2022-07-08 23:55:00

It is Friday, and it’s time for AEW Rampage, which was recorded after Dynamite on Wednesday in Rochester New York at the Blue Cross Arena. The commentary team is Jim Ross, Excalibur, and Tony Schiavone.

Eddie Kingston vs Konosuke Takeshida

As is typical for Rampage, we start with them already in the ring. They lock up collar and elbow and neither gets an advantage. They break and lock up again and move to a series of headlock takeovers by Eddie with Takeshida escaping with head scissors. They lock up again with greco-roman knuckle locks and Eddie is able to take Takeshida down. They work to their feet with Eddie holding two arm bars for Takeshida, who reverses it. Eddie reverses and they go into the ropes for a clean break.

Eddie and Takeshida run the ropes with Eddie getting a knee into Takeshida and then he drops Takeshida. They gets to their feet and start to throw hands, and Eddie ends it with a poke to the yes and then machine gun chops in the corner. Takeshida gets a reverse and does the same with strikes. Eddie works Takeshida down to the mat and holds him in a reverse headlock into the ropes for a break. Takeshida runs the ropes and leaps into Eddie. Takeshida takes control of the match and hits a blue thunder bomb on Eddie for a two count. We go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they are fighting on the apron Takeshida hits a German suplex on the apron and holds on as they go to the floor. Eddie is able to reverse it and hit an exploder on the floor. They both barely get into the ring to beat the ten count. When they recpover they run at each other with clotheslines and Eddie is able to win the battle with brutal lariat and covers for a one. He then hits a Liger Bomb for two.

Eddie goes for the spinning back fist, but Takeshida blocks it, hits a series of blows into a sheer drop brain buster for a two count. They trade blows on their knees. They fight to their feet and Takeshida batters Eddie until he has trouble standing. Eddie fires up and the keep firing blows at each other. Takeshida hits a pair of rising knee strikes, but Eddie gets the spinning back fist and falls on top of Takeshida for a pin and a three count.

Winner: Eddie Kingston

In the back, Athena and Kris Statlander mock Jade Cargill, saying she is hiding from them.

We then get a video package about Hook.

Gates of Agony (Jasper Kaun and Toa Lionawith Tully Blanchard vs Lee Moriarty and ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham

Caprice Coleman joins commentary.

GoA attack before the bell and Kaun takes down Lee quickly. Liona is tagged in and he keeps up the attack. Liona chokes Lee on the ropes and barely breaks in time. Kaun is tagged in and he leaps onto Lee and covers for a two count. Lee is able to break away, but as he gets to the corner, Gresham is drawn away to argue with Tully. Liona tags back in and starts beating down Lee as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Lee is able to escape and hits a low bridge on Liona and struggle to the corner. Lee dives for the tag, and Gresham pulls his hand back and then leaves the ring. Lee tries to fight both of them. We see Gresham hugging Tully Blanchard. Kaun hits a gutbuster on Lee. Liona covers for the pin.

Winners: Gates of Agony

Jonathan Gresham has joined with Tully’s group, and it may be because he is facing Lee Moriarty at the PPV for the title.

Eddie is in the back and he says that he respects Takeshida. He then says he has turned the right to turn his attention to Chris Jericho and he will pay Jericho back for what he did to Ruby and the Blackpool Combat Club and he wants barbed wire. The way Eddie talks about Ruby Soho, they were a lot closer that we’ve been shown.

Serena Deeb and Mercedes Martinez vs Kayla Sparks and Christina Marie

Kayla and Christina are already in the ring, so our questions are:

How long will this last? 2 and ½ minutes.

Will there be any friction between Serena and Mercedes?

Yes, Deeb was telling Martinez she can learn something from her, and they each tag herself in.

Serena Wins with the Serenity Lock on Christina Marie

Winners: Serena Deeb and Mercedes Martinez

Deeb clotheslines Martinez and puts in the Serenity lock after the bell. Deeb breaks the hold quickly and holds the Ring of Honor Women’s title.  It would appear that will be a bout at Death Before Dishonor!

In the back, Tony Schiavone asks Jonathan Gresham why he walked out on his partner, Lee Moriarty. Gresham, who is with Tully says they were not partners. He said he was sitting at home since March until Tully called him. Tony says that Lee will face Gresham next week for the title, and Tully says there isn’t enough left of Lee for the match.

It’s time for the Main Event interview. Tony Nese and Mark Sterling let us know that if Orange Cassidy loses, he has to sign to petition to fire Swerve Strickland.

OK, I guess.

Danhausen is on the side of the Best Friends as their lawyer and is sillier than Cassidy. We finally get Danhausen talking, which you either love or hate. I love it and it’s all goofy wrestling stuff.

As we get a rundown of next week’s card, Lexi is with Lee Moriarty and Matt Sydal. Matt says that Gresham is being dishonorable and they are going to take the title from Gresham.

Orange Cassidy vs Tony Nese

Tony Schiavone takes Caprice Coleman’s spot on the team

Cassidy goes for his pockets, and dodges Nese when Nese charges him twice. Nese is able to take down Cassidy with a headlock takeover. Cassidy works his way up and then they run the ropes with Nese taking down Cassidy with a shoulder tackle. Cassidy puts his hands in his pockets while lying on the mat and rolls out of the way of Nese’s attempted leg drops. Cassidy rolls out of the ring, and then rolls back in. He and Nese run the ropes and Cassidy hits a drop kick on Nese, hands still in his pockets.

Nese rolls out of the ring and Cassidy goes for a leap out of the ring and Nese runs into the ring and takes Cassidy down with a shoulder tackle. Cassidy gets some quick take downs leading to fighting in the corner. Nese gets an uppercut and then a gutbuster for a two count. Cassidy is tossed from the ring and as Nese distracts the ref, Sterling stomps Cassidy and we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Nese has Cassidy down in a body scissors. Cassidy is able to kick his way free and Nese nails Cassidy and tosses him into the corner. He tosses him to the opposite corner and Cassidy flips over, goes for his spinning DDT, but Nese is strong enough to stop him midway. Nese turns it into a Northern Lights suplex and a two count.

Nese and Cassidy fight in the corner and Cassidy is unable to stop Nese’s attack. They go to the top and Nese tries for the superplex, but Cassidy keeps blocking it. They trade blows and They both drop. Nese to the mat and Cassidy on the top. Sterling tries to interfere, and Danhausen stops him. Nese hits a baseball slide into Danhausen and return to the ring, where Cassidy is able to nail him. Cassidy goes for his spinning DDT again and Nese blocks it again. Cassidy counters with the stundog millionaire and a Michinoku driver for a two count.

They both struggle to their feet, with Cassidy up first. Cassidy misses the Orange punch and Nese instead hits a series of kicks and strike, dropping Cassidy for a two count. Nese pulls Cassidy up and tries for a pump handle slam and Cassidy reverses it into a spinning DDT and then hits a second one. Cassidy goes to the top for a diving DDT and a two count.

Sterling gets on the apron and Cassidy gives him the soft kicks. Sterling drops down on the apron and screams as if his legs are broken. As Cassidy watches, Nese grabs him and hits the pump handle slam and covers for a two count. Cassidy crawls to the corner and Nese tries for the running knee, which Cassidy dodges. As Nese is distracting the ref claiming to be hurt, Sterling comes into the ring and sets up the nail Cassidy with the clipboard. Danhausen takes it from him and hits a low blow.

Danhausen curses Nese, and Cassidy hits the Orange Punch and covers for the pin.

Winner: Orange Cassidy
