7/4/22 Results from New Japan Road from Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan:
Kosei Fujita vs. Minoru Suzuki
Fujita attacked Suzuki before the bell in last night’s match. Both men came to the ring with their serious game faces on. Suzuki tied Fujita in knots with choke holds and arm locks. Fujita did his best to not submit. Suzuki applied a double wrist hammerlock which looked to almost dislocate Fujita’s shoulder. Fujita fought back with elbows and stomps. Suzuki grabbed Fujita into a triangle choke, then into a cross arm breaker. Suzuki then transitioned into a Fujiwara armbar.
Fujita taps out.
Suzuki leaves the ring and Fujita gets a polite ovation.
Solid match. Fujita showed his fighting spirit. But for Suzuki, class was in session and Fujita got taught some lessons. Good grappling in this match.
TAKA Michinoku vs. Satoshi Kojima
Kojima came to the ring with the GHC Heavyweight Title and wearing a Pro Wrestling NOAH shirt. Kojima won the title from Go Shiozaki on June 12.
TAKA attacked Kojima at the bell and tried to injure his right arm. TAKA went for arm submissions, but Kojima used his power to fight back.
Kojima blasted TAKA with a lariat.
Kojima pins TAKA.
Like Tiger Mask last night, Kojima addresses the New Japan fans and promised to defend the GHC Title with honor.
It is not unusual to see title holders from other promotions in New Japan (ROH, RevPro, Impact, etc.). However, to see belts and logos from other Japan promotions (GLEAT, All Japan, NOAH) on New Japan World is interesting to see. Hopefully, this cross promotion can continue.
Ryohei Oiwa and Hiroyoshi Tenzan vs. Togi Makabe and Tomoaki Honma
Makabe forces Oiwa to tap out to a Boston Crab.
El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Taichi vs. Yuji Nagata, Clark Conners and The DKC
Taichi pinned DKC after hitting a Dangerous Backdrop.
After the match, Conners and Desperado continued to fight and talk trash. It may not be over between them.
Solid match. Tough two nights for DKC. LIJ on night one. Suzuki-Gun on night two. Conners and Nagata were coaching him in the ring. The Japanese announcers were chanting “DKC”. Clearly, the LA Dojo and Katsuyori Shibata sees something in DKC and they are helping him along. DKC should be proud after his two matches. He can only get better from this point.
Toru Yano, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Dick Togo, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL
SHO, in street clothes, comes to ringside with his teammates.
Yano hits low blows on Yujiro and EVIL. Goto and YOSHI-HASHI hit Shoto on Yujiro.
YOSHI-HASHI pins Yujiro.
CHAOS poses in the ring with momentum heading into their NEVER Openweight 6-man Title match tomorrow.
Master Wato, Ryusuke Taguchi, Alex Zayne, Tomohiro Ishii and Kazuchika Okada vs. Hiromu Takahashi, BUSHI, Tetsuya Naito, Shingo Takagi and SANADA
Takagi pins Wato with Made in Japan.
SANADA and Ishii stare each other down as they will face each other in the B Block during the G1 Climax.
Solid match. Zayne got his spots in. 10 man tags are a cluster, and not everyone gets to shine.
KUSHIDA and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Taiji Ishimori and KENTA
KENTA and Ishimori were aggressive in this match. KENTA has a long feud with Tanahashi. KENTA pulled out a metal crutch and tried to hit Tanahashi. Ishimori was attacking KUSHIDA with submission attempts. Tanahashi and KENTA battled back to the locker room. Ishimori hits La Mistica on KUSHIDA and applies the Bone Lock.
KUSHIDA screams in pain and taps out.
Wow! Shocked at the sudden end of the match. But it makes sense. KUSHIDA won the night before. Ishimori gets his win tonight and establishes himself at the top of the Jr. Division. KUSHIDA needs to work his way up back to the top.
KENTA and Tanahashi will be in the C Block for the G1 Climax.
Thank you for reading.
