NJPW STRONG REPORT: ROSSER VS LAWLOR, SUZUKI VS DEPPEN, AND MORE

Danny Limelight has something to say before his match.

Danny says when he is talking, he needs everyone in Philly to shut their cheesesteak filled mouths. He tells them to translate into Japanese so everyone at home can be quiet. He says he got a big win for Team Filthy in DC. Instead of shaking my hand, David Finlay hit me with a shillelagh. The only think you showed me is that because you have a name that no one cared about for the last fifteen years that you can do whatever you want. I bet your little brother, Brogan, has more fight than you David. You couldn’t get the job done in DC, you won’t get it done here.

Match Number One: David Finlay versus Danny Limelight

Limelight goes into the ropes as soon as the bell rings and he wants Finlay to back up. Limelight rolls to the floor to tie his shoe. Limelight grabs the shillelagh and returns to the ring but goes back to the floor. Finlay chases Limelight. Limelight with kicks. Finlay with chops and an O’Connor Roll for a near fall. Finlay with a drop kick. Finlay with a suplex and he gets a near fall. Finlay with a wrist lock and he puts the hand on the mat and stomps on the elbow. Finlay with European uppercuts.

Finlay with an Irish whip but Limelight moves. Limelight puts the leg in the ropes and wrings it into the ropes and then drop kicks the leg. Limelight with a fisherman’s suplex and he poses. Limelight gets a near fall. Finlay with forearms and Limelight with kicks to the leg. Limelight with forearms and Finlay goes for a uranage but Limelight escapes and clips Finlay. Limelight drives Finlay’s knee into the apron.

Limelight wit a slingshot senton onto the leg for a near fall. Limelight pie faces Finlay and then he connects with a back heel kick. Finlay with a back body drop. Finlay with forearms and a flying corkscrew uppercut. Finlay with a European uppercut and a Blue Thunder Bomb for a near fall. Finlay goes for a suplex but Limelight counters with a knee. Limelight with a heel hook but Finlay bridges and gets a near fall. Limelight kicks Finlay in the leg. Finlay with a uranage back breaker and a clothesline.

Finlay with an ushigoroshi for the three count.

Winner: David Finlay

After the match, Finlay offers his hand to Limelight and Limelight spits in Finlay’s face. Finlay hits Limelight with the shillelagh and says something to Limelight before leaving the ring.

Great O’Khan says that United Empire is taking over next week’s NJPW Strong. It will be United Empire Rising.

Will Ospreay says they are calling out the world. They are ready to take on anyone.

Match Number Two: Minoru Suzuki versus Tony Deppen

Deppen goes for the leg and he gets Suzuki to the mat and Suzuki reverses and he teases a punch but goes for the cross arm breaker. Deppen blocks it and he gets a near fall. Deppen with a double wrist lock and Suzuki escapes and goes for a single leg crab. Deppen gets to the ropes but Suzuki does not release the hold and htne he goes for the other leg in the ropes. Deppen pushes Suzuki. They lock up and Suzuki with a kick to the leg. Deppen kicks back. Suzuki with more kicks.

Deppen with kicks and European uppercuts followed by a forearm. Suzuki with a triangle in the ropes. Suzuki sends Deppen into the guardrails and Deppen pushes back. Suzuki chops Deppen against the guardrails. Suzuki sends Deppen into the apron and then gives him a snap mare on the floor. Suzuki goes up the ramp and connects with a running kick that Deppen is not anxious to receive. Deppen rolls back into the ring.

Suzuki with a snap mare and kick to the back. Suzuki with a wrist lock. Suzuki works on the arm into a hammer lock. Suzuki kicks Deppen in the shoulder. Suzuki goes for a Gotch Pile Driver but Deppen blocks it and connects with a forearm and knees. Deppen with a European uppercut. Deppen with a knee in the corner followed by a running knee for a near fall.

Deppen with a forearm and Suzuki with an Irish whip and Yakuza kick. Suzuki with a snap mare and kick for a near fall. Suzuki kicks Deppen in the head and slaps Deppen. Deppen with a forearm when Suzuki tells him to hit him. Suzuki tells Deppen to do it again and Deppen with another forearm. Suzuki wants one more and Deppen connects. Suzuki shows Deppen how to do it. They go back and forth with forearms. Deppen with more forearms. Suzuki with a forearm and Deppen falls to the mat.

Deppen staggers back to Suzuki and connects with a forearm. Suzukui fires back. Deppen with a forearm and knee followed by a Death Valley Driver for a near fall. Deppen with a running forearm to the back of the head and Deppen gets a near fall.

Deppen and Suzuki go face to face and Deppen slaps Suzuki. Suzuki with a sleeper and forearm followed by a delayed Gotch pile driver for the three count.

Winner: Minoru Suzuki

After the match, Suzuki grabs the referee when he raises his hand and teases a Gotch Pile Driver, but Suzuki lets him go and smiles.

Fred Rosser says he needs that title more than anything and it eats him up inside that Tom Lawlor has the title.

We see footage of Lawlor cutting Rosser’s hair. We see footage of Rosser and Lawlor when Lawlor defeated Rosser. We see Rosser demanding a title match and Lawlor’s refusal. Lawlor gives Rosser his chance to earn a title match against Royce Isaacs and Jorel Nelson. After the loss, we see Lawlor telling Fred to shave his head to get a title match as well as put his NJPW career on the line.

Before our main event starts, Tiger Hattori comes to the ring to display the title belt and present it to the participants.

Match Number Three: Fred Rosser versus Tom Lawlor for the NJPW Strong Openweight Championship

They lock up and exchange forearms. Rosser gets Lawlor up but Lawlor goes for a rear naked choke. Rosser goes for a crossface chicken wing but Lawlor escapes. They exchange forearms. Lawlor chops Rosser and gives him a drop toe hold. Rosser escapes a head lock. Rosser with forearms and Lawlor with a guillotine. Rosser with chops and an Irish whip but Lawlor gets a boot up. Rosser with more chops. Lawlor with a spinning heel kick and Rosser goes to the floor.

Lawlor goes up top and hits a cross body onto Rosser on the floor. Rosser has some words for Rosser’s mother in the crowd. Lawlor takes a bow. Lawlor Irish whips Rosser into the guardrails. They go to the apron and Rosser with a back drop driver onto the apron. Rosser pulls Lawlor to the floor and returns to the ring. The referee starts his count while Lawlor gets back to his feet. Rosser with a clothesline and then he sends Lawlor to the floor. Rosser goes to the floor and clotheslines Lawlor.

Rosser punches Lawlor and pulls Lawlor into the ring post. Rosser with a chop on the floor and a crossface chicken wing around the ring post. Rosser with a rake of the back. Rosser goes for a back drop driver onto the apron but Lawlor holds on to the ropes to block it and he kicks Rossesr. Lawlor goes for a power bomb into the guardrails but Rosser holds on to the ropes. Lawlor goes for an ankle lock. Rosser with a leg drop to Lawlor on the apron.

Rosser with a seated splash off the apron. Rosser returns to the ring and the referee makes his count. Lawlor gets on the apron and Rosser pushes Lawlor into the ring. Rosser with forearms and chops. Rosser with kicks and hips in the corner. Rosser with a running hip strike. Rosser gets a near fall. Rosser with a hip to Lawlor. Lawlor with a judo throw and then he sends Rosser shoulder first into the turnbuckles and Rosser goes over the top rope to the floor.

Lawlor gets on Rosser’s back and applies a sleeper but Rosser backs into the apron and guardrails to get out of the hold but Lawlor holds on. Rosser pulls the ring skirt but Lawlor turns it into a rear naked choke and he drags Rosser to the back.

Lawlor comes from the back with the referee and they run to the ring for the referee to start his count. He starts his count and a bloody Rosser crawls to the ring. He staggers off the ramp and Royce Isaacs, Jorel Nelson, and JR Kratos form a wall to block Rosser’s path to the ring. Members of the LA Dojo come out to clear the way for Rosser. Rosser gets back into the ring at nineteen. Rosser is in the corner and the medical staff checks on Rosser to close up the cut on his forehead. The referee resumes the match and Lawlor with a running knee into the corner and a kick to the back. Lawlor with another kick to the back and then he goes for a knee but Rosser blocks it. Rosser with a dragon screw leg whip and forearms. Rosser with an arm bar and then Lawlor kicks Rosser away. Rosser has a kick blocked and Rosser with kicks. Rosser with an arm bar but Lawlor gets to the ropes to force a break. Rosser with forearms and Lawlor with forearms and kicks. Lawlor with a clothesline and Rosser stays on his feet. Lawlor with another clothesline and Lawlor is the one to go down. Lawlor with knees and then he goes for a tornado into a guillotine.

Lawlor with forearms while in the body scissors. Rosser and Lawlor with the forearm exchange. Rosser counters the guillotine and gets Lawlor on his shoulders for a Death Valley Driver and a near fall. Lawlor with an exploder and a second one. Lawlor with an enzuigiri and a wrist clutch exploder for a near fall. Lawlor goes to the turnbuckles. Rosser with a clothesline as Lawlor comes off the turnbuckles. Rosser with a forearm and a double knee gutbuster. Lawlor blocks a running knee and goes for an arm bar submission. Rosser with a boot to the head for a near fall. Lawlor goes to the apron and Rosser follows. Rosser with a head butt and Lawlor with a head butt. Rosser with a back drop driver onto the apron and Lawlor with a rear naked choke. Rosser gets Lawlor up and hits a tombstone on the floor. Rosser sends Lawlor back into the ring and Rosser with a short arm clothesline.

Rosser with a power slam for a near fall. Rosser is bleeding again and he gets to his feet first. Rosser goes for a rolling elbow but Lawlor with a forearm. Lawlor with a rear naked choke into a guillotine. Lawlor with a Michinoku Driver for a near fall. Lawlor with a straitjacket choke and Lawlor with a knee and a Regalplex for a near fall. Lawlor has some words for Rosser’s family as he returns to the straitjaccket choke and he connects with a knee to the back for a near fall. Lawlor signals that it is over.

Lawlor kisses Rosser on his forehead where he is cut and then Lawlor returns to the rear naked choke. Rosser backs Lawlor into the turnbuckles and tries for a snap mare to escape but Lawlor holds on. Rosser gets ot the corner and then Rosser climbs on the turnbuckles with Lawlor on his back and Rosser falls back to the mat. Lawlor reapplies the rear naked choke but Rosser with a rear naked choke on Lawlor. Rosser turns it into a crossface chicken wing and he gets Lawlor to the mat.

Lawlor tries to get to the ropes but Rosser pulls Lawlor into the center of the ring. Rosser with an STF and elbows then he adds the crossface chicken wing and Lawlor taps out.

Winner: Fred Rosser (new champion)

After the match, Tiger Hattori gives Fred Rosser the title belt and raises his hand. Rosser embraces the title belt and falls to his knees. Rosser celebrates his victory in the ring. Rosser goes into the crowd to celebrate with his family.

Rosser takes the mic and he says he doesn’t want to take up too much time. Whether it is in front of 50 people or 10,000 people, this is so much fun for me. He talks about Nexus and the Prime Time Players. He talks about working with Bob Backlund. There is no better place in the world than under the lights of New Japan Strong. Fred says he is going to take his biggest supporter, his mom, his biggest hater, his dad. He asked why not AEW but they said no twice. Why not WWE? They said no over 40 times and I don’t take no for an answer. Without commitment you will never start. Without consistency you will never finish. Fred mentions that his grandfather is also in the building. The last time he was at a show, he got a ‘Thank You Grandpa’ and Fred gets the crowd to chant that as well.
