Match 8: Damyan Tangra vs Suge D

Main Event: “Ichiban” Jaden Newman (w/ Violence is Forever) vs “The Octopus” Jonathan Gresham
We’re back to the five minute rounds. Code of Honor! Good grap chess match in the opening minutes. Trading leverage points on the wrists, Gresham rolls free. They are being cautious but still friendly. Gresham wants to prove how good he is and offered his arm to Jaden just so he can reverse him and send him back. Newman won’t be outdone and offers the same…Newman flips free and offers his hand. Gresham with a slap and they go face to face as the round 1 bells rings.

— RydeenBomb (@RydeenBomb) June 21, 2022
Big heavy lockup as Round 2 starts. They lock into the ropes and the ref has to break them up. Newman with a quick La magistral. Kick out! Again, kick out! Gresham stunned by this quickness and Jaden offers his hand again. Gresham getting dragged, he tries to reverse but Newman keeps the pressure on and Gresham has to vacate to the floor. He takes his time getting back in. Gresham is frustrated and throws his cornerman into the trash. Gresham rides out the clock and forces Newman to disengage.
Round 3 kicks off, Gresham kicks to the gut. Stomping in the corner as Modern Age Grappling seems to go out the window a bit. Gresham stomping out the ankle and gets an ankle lock. Transition to a double arm lock! Gresham pulling back on the leg. This is a GROSS sub. Newman kicks out of a pin, tries a crucifix! Gresham still wrapping him up. Twist that wrist. Painful twist up down to a pin attempt. This has been a bad five minutes for Jaden, who is in pure survival mode and hitting this pain out. Gresham has a figure eight as we get the bell. Gresham refuses to break the lock for several seconds after the bell. He CLAIMS he was stuck.
Round 4: Jaden comes in but Gresham is still holding the rope. Not QUITE a rope break. Gresham with a toe hold…twist up the arm, crucifix! Newman out and blasts a dropkick! Flying forearm! He’s hurting from the arm! Newman flurrying! German bridge for two! Corner dropkick! He wants the Ricola bomb but his arm is trash. Back and forth rocking pin attempts! Newman with a drop toe hold….HANGMAN’S CLUTCH! Gresham fighting long and hard and uses a rope break. Two left! Both guys hesitating as their arms are both hurting. Gresham with a cheap shot on the ref break as the round ends. Newman is flustered.

The bell for round five kicks off. Newman tries for the ankle….roll up! Gresham goes for the octopus stretch! Newman gets the rope! Gresham pummels him limp with hammerfists as the ref pulls him off. It still counts as a rope break. Gresham takes the wrist, Newman throws a hard forearm. Gresham snaps off the wrist. Gresham picks the ankle off a Dropkick. Gresham flips out of a piledriver….Newman hits the Ricola bomb! Transition to the Hangman’s Clutch!!!!! Gresham is trying to climb the ref to get to his second rope break. Booooooo says the crowd. Gresham is furious and Newman is right in his face. Trading European uppercuts. Pump kick from Newman! Hangman’s clutch!!!! Gresham clawing at the mat to the rope! Thats’a his third rope break. He has no chances left! Ring the bell, we’re going to the final round!

— RydeenBomb (@RydeenBomb) June 21, 2022
The crowd chanting Fight Forever as we enter round six. Hard chops back and forth as these guys are tired and swinging for the fences. Firing up and trading for a solid minute! Fast rebound off the rope, diving sunset flip and Jaden is rolled up for the three! The Octopus takes it but my god, Jaden Newman acquitted himself amazingly tonight against one of the best wrestlers in the world.
Winner: Jonathan Gresham
Gresham on the mic. Modern Age Grappling is what he thinks professional wrestling is supposed to be. This is his passion, British Rounds mixed with ROH Pure Rounds. But he needs pure professional wrestlers to help champion this style…and he is going to be scouting Uncharted Territory for more people who embody his dream of professional wrestling. He offers that handshake to Newman and thanks his profusely for the contest as we go to black.

— nathan hickey (@nathanhickey10) June 21, 2022
This was a great main. I know this rule set is Gresham’s passion project. I’ve covered two full Terminus shows and THIS execution was I think the closest to what he’s been looking for all along. The Modern Age Grappling Ruleset definitely requires understanding from both sides, the ref and the commentators. On this night, it definitely seemed like it finally all came together.
