5/25 NJPW BEST OF SUPER JUNIORS REPORT FROM TOKYO, JAPAN

5/25/22 Results from the Best of the Super Junior 29 from Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan:

Ace Austin vs. Alex Zayne 

Both men come out to pop from the crowd.  They start fast bouncing off the ropes.  Zayne with a double knee to Austin’s back.  Zayne goes for a flipping senton, which Austin reverses into a cradle pin.  Two count.  Austin traps Zayne’s arm and goes for the paper cut.  Zayne reverses out and takes the Ace card away from Austin.  

The usual tricks shown from early in the tournament are not working.  The wrestlers will have to up their game with new strategies.

Austin takes down Zayne by the arm again and pulls out another Ace card and paper cuts the hand of Zayne.   Zayne escapes to the floor.  Austin hits Soar to Glory over the top rope.   Austin dazzled with his parkour skills, avoiding strikes from Zayne.  Zayne trips up Austin on the ring apron.  Zayne hits a Houston Hangover to the back of Austin’s head.  Zayne with a Swanton on Austin and twisting senton.   Two count.   Austin bounces off the ropes with a spin kick which knocks Zayne out of his boots. Austin with a gut wrench suplex.  Two count.  They trade strikes and Zayne hits a lariat.  Zayne puts Austin on the top rope and does a running flipping head scissors into a hurricanrana.  Austin is ready for it and rolls Zayne into a pin.  Two count.  Austin hits lariats in the corner. Austin misses a top rope body press.  Zayne goes for a Baja Blast but Austin reverses out.  Zayne goes for a school boy but Austin blocks it.  Zayne arm drags Austin and hits an enzugiri.  Zayne climbs to the top rope for a Cinnamon Twist, but Austin starts pleading to him, saying they are friends.  Austin rolls Zayne into a small package for a two count.  The exchange elbows.  Zayne tries for a Taco Driver but Austin escapes.  Austin with a super kick.  Zayne with a pop up knee strike.  Austin with a round house kick.  Both men down and struggle to get to their feet.  Austin with another round house and goes for The Fold.  Zayne reverses and hits the Baja Blast.  Zayne goes for another Cinnamon Twist but Austin crotches him on the top rope.  Austin does a running headscissors from the apron over the ropes and flips Zayne off the top rope with a hurricanrana.  Austin quickly hits The Fold.

Austin pins Zayne.

Ace Austin is at 8 points.  Alex Zayne remains at 6 points.

Both men hug each other after the match.  The crowd applauds both men.  

Great match.  Both men put on a show for the Korakuen crowd.  Hopefully, their performances in the BOSJ 29 will endear themselves to the fans and New Japan officials to bring them back on more tours.

BUSHI vs. DOUKI

The match starts fast with both men trying for running attacks.  BUSHI arm drags DOUKI.  DOUKI connects with a hard elbow sending BUSHI to the floor.  DOUKI flies through the ropes with a tope suicida, sending BUSHI crashing into the time keeper’s table. DOUKI crotches BUSHI on the ring post.  DOUKI hits a running double stomp and applies the Italian Stretch #32.  BUSHI gets to the ropes.  BUSHI dropkicks DOUKI in the left knee.   BUSHI takes down DOUKI with a hurricanrana and hits a tope suicida into the crowd.  

Back in the ring, BUSHI hits a DDT.  Two count.  BUSHI with a dropkick and another DDT on the ring apron.  They reverse out of each other’s pin attempts.  DOUKI applies the Italian Stretch #32.  BUSHI gets the rope break.   DOUKI goes for a Daybreak but BUSHI hits an MX instead.  BUSHI with a Magic Screw.  Two count.  BUSHI goes for another MX but DOUKI catches him in another Italian Stretch #32.   

BUSHI submits.

DOUKI gets to 6 points.  BUSHI remains at 4 points.  

Clark Conners vs. Francesco Akir

Conners begins with a snap suplex and then a release German.  He hits another German suplex and goes for the pin.  Two count.  Conners tries for another power move but Akira turns it into a tornado DDT.  Akira with a dropkick to the back of the head.  Conners rolls to the floor.  Akira throws Conners headfirst into the ring post, then into the aisle way.  Akira gets a hurricanrana on the floor and sends Conners into the ring post again.  Conners gets back in the ring to avoid the count out, but Akira meets him with a dropkick to the head.  Akira grabs a headlock.  Conners punches his way out.  Akira hits the ropes, but Conners catches him with a Jeep Flip.  Conners with a running elbow, a spear, backdrop and an elbow drop.  Two count.  He slams Akira and climbs to the top rope.  They battle on the ropes.  Akira hits a super kick to the face.  Akira hits a Fireplex.  Two count.  Akira hammers Conners with elbows.  Akira with a sunset flip pin.  Two count.  They exchange near falls.  Conners hits The Trophy Kill.

Conners pins Akira.

Clark Conners gets to 4 points.  Francesco Akira stays at two points.

Titan vs. Wheeler Yuta

They start the match with arm locks but they speed it up.  They exchange chops.   Titan gets chopped to the floor.  Yuta with a tope suicida.  Yuta gets Titan in a bow and arrow stretch.  Titan gets out and hits a hurricanrana, sending Yuta to the floor.  Titan hits a tope suicida of his own.  He hits another one.  

Back in the ring, Titan hits a superkick then an Air Raid Crash.  Two count.  They exchange wicked kicks.  Titan comes off the top with a springboard, but Yuta hits a dropkick.  Yuta hammers Titan with elbows and rolls him into a Seat Belt Clutch.

Yuta pins Titan.

Wheeler Yuta gets to 6 points total. Titan remains at 2 points.

El Lindaman vs. El Phantasmo

ELP was in a bad mood after losing to DOUKI last night.  He tried to taunt Lindaman who fought back.  Lindaman planted ELP with a release German suplex then a tope con hilo on the floor.  They battle on the floor.  ELP throws him into the ring post.  Lindaman almost gets counted out.  ELP hits a brainbuster and high Gut Buster.   Two count.  ELP with a sit down Last Ride.  Two count.  ELP hits Lindaman with chops.  Lindaman tangles ELP in the ring ropes.  Lindaman leaps over the top rope and drops ELP with a Blockbuster.  Lindaman with a snap DDT.  Two count.  Lindaman with a running double stomp.  ELP goes to the ropes and he slips and falls to the mat.  Lindaman looks puzzled.  ELP is moaning and groaning on the mat.  Lindaman goes to pick up ELP but ELP tries for small package pin.  Which is how he lost to DOUKI.  Lindaman blocks the small package and powers ELP into a vertical suplex.  Two count.  They throw chops and strikes.  Lindaman hulks up.   ELP bounces off the ropes but falls to the mat selling his leg.  The referee checks on ELP’s leg.  Lindaman pushes the referee out of the way.  ELP hits Sudden Death, then follows with a CR2.

ELP pins Lindaman.

El Phantasmo gets to 8 points.  El Lindaman remains at 6 points.

Ryusuke Taguchi vs. SHO

Taguchi comes to the ring with a head lamp, due to House of Torture turning out the lights in Korakuen Hall.   

SHO attacks before the bell.  He beats on Taguchi out on the floor and drags him up the aisle way.  He takes Taguchi behind the locker room curtain.  The audio picks up the attack behind the curtain.   SHO comes out and runs back to the ring, telling the referee to count.   Taguchi make it back to the ring before the count out.   SHO and Taguchi fight again to the floor.  Taguchi takes off his shirt and chokes SHO.  He drags SHO back down the aisle way and behind the curtain.  SHO is on his back with legs sticking through the curtain.   Taguchi sticks his head through the curtain.  His head goes up and down.  SHO’s legs are flailing.   Taguchi comes out from behind the curtain with his butt exposed and he is wearing a thong.  He goes back to the ring.  SHO is gagging in the aisle.  Taguchi gets an object in black cloth and exchanges SHO’s wrench in a black cloth.   SHO comes back to the ring and is still gagging.  Taguchi sits on SHO’s face again and SHO is screaming like he is in a horror movie.   The crowd laughs when Taguchi tells SHO it’s not that bad.

Taguchi misses a hip attack.  SHO digs at the eyes and kicks the rear end of Taguchi.  SHO goes for a cross arm piledriver but Taguchi powers out.  SHO counters a hip attack but Taguchi is relentless and keeps hitting with hip attacks.  SHO pulls the referee in front as Taguchi tries for a Bum-baye.  The referee gets pushed around and takes a bump in the corner. SHO dodges a hip attack and Taguchi hits the referee.  

SHO hits a release German suplex.  SHO goes for his black cloth.  Inside the cloth was a banana.  SHO screams in anger as his weapon is gone.  Taguchi rolls up SHO in an ankle lock.  SHO reverses into The Snake Bite.  Taguchi rolls him into a pin.  Two count.  Taguchi applies the ankle lock again.  Taguchi drops the elbow on SHO’s leg and cranks the ankle lock.

Lights go out. 

Flashes of light from the crowd and at ringside. Dick Togo comes out to choke Taguchi.  Lights come on.  Taguchi is sitting on Togo’s face with his bare butt.  SHO has the referee occupied.  Yujiro Takahashi comes in and hits Taguchi with his Pimp stick.  

SHO pins Taguchi.

SHO gets to 4 points.  Ryusuke Taguchi stays at 2 points.  

EVIL comes out to applaud his House of Torture teammate.

I guess they needed one cluster match for House of Torture in the BOSJ.  Lots of shenanigans for SHO to only get to 4 points.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Taiji Ishimori

Kanemaru dropkicked Ishimori in the left knee.  Ishimori chases Kanemaru outside of the ring then back in.   Kanemaru hits a satellite DDT then a reverse DDT.   Kanemaru goes for Deep Impact.  Ishimori reverses into a Cipher UTAKI.  

Ishimori grabs his belt because he wants hit Kanemaru. Ishimori argues with the referee.  Kanemaru grabs his whiskey bottle and takes a swig.  The referee grabs the belt from Ishimori.  Kanemaru sprays Ishimori in the face with a Suntory Surprise.   Kanemaru rolls up Ishimori in a Victory Roll.  Ishimori kicks out.  Kanemaru grabs his legs and repositions the pin.

Kanemaru pins Ishimori.

Yoshinobu Kanemaru gets to 4 points.  Taiji Ishimori stays at 8 points.  

Crowd pops for this surprise.  Ishimori is angry in the ring.

Wow!  Big surprise here.  Kanemaru pinned the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Champion.  There should be a title match in the future for Kanemaru.  This sets up Ace Austin vs. Taiji Ishimori tomorrow, both are at 8 points in the A Block.

Robbie Eagles vs. TJP

A lot of showmanship between both men to start this match.  Both men flew around the ring to a stalemate.  TJP gets the advantage with a neck breaker on the ring apron.  TJP goes for a leg submission with an Indian Deathlock and a Muta Lock.  Eagles gets to the ropes.   They exchange reversals.  Eagles goes for the leg with a dropkick.  Eagles hits a double knee to the face.  Eagles works on the left knee.  TJP goes for another leg submission but Eagles gets to the ropes.  Pace quickens and they exchange reversals.  Eagles locks in the Ron Miller Special.   TJP gets the ropes.  Eagles hits a Turbo Backpack.  Two count.  Eagles goes for a 450 but TJP gets his knees up and Eagles lands hard.  TJP hits a Mamba Splash.  TJP locks in the Pinoy Stretch.

Eagles taps out.

TJP gets to 4 points.  Robbie Eagles remain at 4 points.

Master Wato vs. El Desperado

They begin with arm locks and head locks.  They battle outside the ring and Desperado throws Wato into the ring post.   Wato is almost counted out.  Desperado goes to work on Wato’s left leg.  Desperado gets him in an Indian Death Lock.  Wato takes Desperado out of the ring with a hurricanrana.  Wato hits a tope con hilo.  Desperado is thrown back in the ring.  Wato hits a top rope dropkick, sending Desperado to the floor again.  Wato hits a twisting splash into the crowd.  Desperado is thrown back in the ring and Wato hits an awkward uppercut from the top rope.  Desperado sold that it was his arm that got hurt.  Wato hits some kicks but Desperado plants him with a back suplex.   Desperado attacks the left leg with a dragon screw.  Desperado applies the Stretch Muffler and Wato goes for the ropes.   Wato stuns Desperado with a shot to the face.  Wato goes for Recientemente.  Two count.  Wato applies Vendaval.   Desperado screams in pain until he gets to the ropes.   Wato goes for an RPP and misses.  Desperado with a chop block.  Desperado sets up Wato for Numero Dos but Wato rolls him into a pin.  Two count.  Wato with a version of Slingblade.  Two count.   Desperado hits a Spinebuster and then follows with Guitarra de Angel.   Two count.   Desperado hits Pinche Loco.

Desperado pins Wato.

El Desperado gets to 8 points.  Master Wato remains at 2 points.

 YOH vs. Hiromu Takahashi

YOH immediately goes for the leg of Hiromu, which was injured by Yoshinobu Kanemaru last night.  YOH chop blocks Hiromu’s leg.   YOH dropkicks the knee.   YOH picks up Hiromu and drops him on the knees.  YOH applies a figure four leg lock.   Hiromu gets the ropes.  Hiromu stuns YOH with a hurricanrana.  Hiromu dropkicks YOH to the floor.  He dropkicks him again from the apron.  Back in the ring, Hiromu hits a Falcon Arrow.  Two count.  YOH blocks a superkick and kicks Hiromu in the knee.  YOH with a dragon screw, then a leg bar.  Hiromu gets the ropes.  YOH hits two German suplexes.  Hiromu hits his own German and a lariat.  Hiromu stuns YOH with a body scissors into a Flatliner.  

Hiromu with a Dynamite Plunger.  Two count. They reverse out of each other’s moves.  YOH hits another dragon screw.  YOH hits a Superplex, holds on, follows with a Falcon Arrow.  Hiromu kicks out at two.  YOH applies the leg bar submission.  Hiromu gets to the ropes.  Hiromu fights back with a headbutt and a lariat.  YOH kicks out at two.  Hiromu hits Victory Royal.  YOH rolls out of a Time Bomb II and rolls up Hiromu in Five Star Clutch.  Two count.  YOH with a big superkick.  YOH with DNV.  YOH hits a neck breaker on the knee.  YOH hits a Direct Driver.

YOH pins Hiromu.

YOH gets to 6 points total.  Hiromu Takahashi remains at 6 points.  

Good match by YOH.  He was aggressive and relentless on the injury of Hiromu Takahashi.  This is the best he has looked since he came back from injury over a year ago, in my opinion.
