Wrestling Open Week 20

5/19/22 - Worcester, MA

Streamed on IWTV.live

Welcome to week 20 of Wrestling Open! On the books for tonight is the Max Caster 10k Open Challenge, a preview of the upcoming tag elimination tournament and the return of our very own Northeast Beast, Alec Price! But first our weekly spotlight match! Little Mean Kathleen is on commentary with Paul?!?

Spotlight Match: Armani Kayos vs Leo Sparrow

Leo Sparrow is some kinda vegan warrior who is throwing spinach at the crowd. Despite that, Kayos is here so we know who to boo. Sparrow sends Kayos to the floor early but gets hotshotted on the top. Kayos with a slingshot flatliner for two. Kayos with a tarantula and slaps dat ass. Sparrow with a face full of spinach. Kayos with a spinning back kick. He goes for the rack attack…Sparrow out and tries a back slide. Sparrow flips it over, ddt! Kayos running into lariats, Superman “fruit punch”. High angle bronco buster! Two count! Kayos hits the rack attack for the three! This was very much an effective spotlight match, as I’ve seen Sparrow in the venue for a few weeks now but had t seen him work yet. I am immediately envisioning a spinach vs flower petals encounter with Love Doug (who I hope the best in his recovery from a recent ankle injury)

Winner: Armani Kayos

And we’re live on IWTV! Paul “I’m starting to appreciate fun things” Crockett is your commentator. “Sexy” Rich Palladino is your announcer. Let’s gooooooo!

Match 1: Eric James vs “Da Big Boofa” Dezmond Cole

Cole out hot with a sunset flip! Rana! James is taking bump after bump from Cole. Boot to the face and James Chucks him headfirst into the buckles. Big back drop for two. Big powerslam! Cole kicks out again! Cole absorbs a pele kick, back slide for two! Flip kick to the head! Big shoulder block and a suplex! Cole very fired up. James gets yoinked up by the wrist into a uranage. This was a super cool spot. Cole with a handspring but James hits a cutter and blasts a PK. A Tiger bomb ends Desmond Cole’s night early. This was a lot of fun!

Winner: Eric James

Match 2: Gal Barkay & Randy Rivera vs The Amazing Graysons (Tommy & JP Grayson)

I see the Graysons are tagging again. JP dyed his hair? The crowd still loves to chant for each Grayson back and forth. It’s a great spot. JP and Gal going hold for hold last early but a fast hip toss drops him on the back of head and Rivera is in to lay in more damage. JP punches out, gets the tag, splash combo for two! Tommy left to his devices sent to the corner, double leg drop for two. Gal wraps up a gory special but JP is able to tag in! Rivera has JP up but Armani Kayos comes out from the back and distracts Gal. Gal gets bumped off the apron, the Graysons hit Rivera with a Samoan drop neckbreaker combo for the pin!

Winners: The Amazing Graysons

Match 3: Percy Ryan vs Teddy Goodz (w/ Little Mean Kathleen)

It actually IS Goodz this week ( and not a mean trick on the crowd by Pedro Dones)! LMK runs right back to hang out with her good buddy Paul Crockett. Percy Ryan tries to bait her back to the ring but, like a dummy, he takes his eyes off Teddy. Goodz beats him back into the ring and out again. Top rope dive to the floor! Teddy tries coming off the top again but Percy with a springboard enziguri! He tries to twist Teddy’s neck off but he gets free. Flying back elbows! 10 elbows! He wants the back stunner…Percy fighting it but Goodz hits it and gets the three! Percy has SOMETHING, I look forward to seeing more of it.

Winner: Teddy Goodz

Teddy wants the mic. He has some words for Pedro Dones…who isn’t here tonight conveniently. He accepts Dones challenge for a mixed tag match next week. Is LMK down? YESSSSSS!

Match 4: Mike Skyros vs 1 Called Manders

This….could be really good, y’all. They lock up and power to the buckles, Skyros throwing some chops. Manders unloads some hellacious chops in return. Big delay vertical suplex! Skyros goes behind, big German! He tries to choke out the cowboy on the ropes. Miss on a corner knee and Manders unloads the branding iron of chops. Skyros, firing back with a ton of forearms! Skyros whiffs in the corner again, Manders with a powerslam! Skyros blocks the lairat! He comes off the corner, Manders ducks…big lariat connects! Manders gets the three! This was a hard hitting bit of fun, I would love to see the 10-12 minute version of this.

Winner: Manders

Match 5: 50 Cal vs Dan Barry

What. A. Matchup. The crowd is hot for both of these guys. We even have a cosplay for 50 Cal! 50 stuns Barry with a series of armdrags. Dan Barry is trying to put that experience to good use but 50 is reversing EVERYTHING…and hitting more arm drags. Barry drops 50 and hits his top rope knee flip splash thing. Barry with a running elbow starches the kid but only gets a two. 50 hitting clotheslines and back elbows! Deadlift German for two! Barry with a codebreaker! Swanton bomb connects! Dan Barry gets the pin! It’s worth noting that at a little over 6 minutes, this was the longest on the show so far but it FLEW. Very entertaining!

Winner: Dan Barry

Brad Hollister is out here to join commentary for this next match. The crowd gives him the boos he deserves.

Match 6: “The Prize” Alec Price(c) vs Sammy Diaz (for the SUP Bonestorm Championship)

This is another one with a lot of potential! Diaz and Price get RIGHT to it, with fast holds, strikes and reversals. Price gets the upper hand briefly, Diaz with a hangman’s splash to the back! Yeeeeeeesh!! Diaz wants a powerbomb…backdrop over, Price with small package for two! Diaz power slams! Price cuts him off! The Prize ducks and weaves, ripcord enziguri! The crowd chanting for the Northeast beast as he lands his flying knees, flying legdrop, Gotch powerbomb. Diaz survives the combo! He dodges the air raid crash. He ducks the su prize kick! Roll through knee to the chin! Diaz hits a Tiger bomb for two! Price fights out of a fireman’s carry. He ducks a shining wizard! Price grabs the leg and slaps on a leg lock and gets the tap!! Price by submission whaaaaat?!?this was very good.

Winner: Alec Price

Price gets the mic and calls Hollister a b****. He says Hollister made no statement, no point. All he did was get himself disqualified. Bacon is nothing to him. Bacon wants to get technical? Next week, Big Bacon vs The Prize in a submission match. Hollister says “I’ll think about it”.

Match 7: Tony Vincita vs Fancy Ryan Clancy

No Ray Jaz?!? no Jaz Tip tonight?!? This is a five star match already! We get a “TV Tip of the Day”. Never mind, we’re back to one star. Wait, Ryan Clancy is here! We’re back up again. All kidding aside , Clancy sends Vincita for a series of tosses and tries to grind out the head and neck. Tony muscles him to the corner and rakes the eyes on the top rope. Fancy flip and a headlock takedown! They struggles back and forth over an armdrags Clancy monkey flips him again. Run up the ropes headlock takeover! Vincita with a sucker punch and takes over with kicks and shots to the gut. Big one arm slam! Powerslam for two! Clancy with a reversal to a dropkick! Vincita fights off the side Russian. Clancy hits a butterfly suplex! Sunset flip! Vincita reverses the pin and grabs the rope for leverage and gets the three! I love how Clancy just works these very solid basics and the crowd eats it up. I may not hate Vincita with the same acid reflux inducing vitriol that I have for his tag partner but it’s worth noting he more than holds up on his own…assuming the Jersey Legends are in the Eliminator Tournament, they might be my dark horse favorite to win.

Winner: Tony Vincita

I’ve been told there was a Ray Jaz promo (complete with Tip) on the broadcast. That’s yet another reason I’m glad I made the trek to Worcester tonight.

Match 8: The Church of Greatness (Brother Greatness, Brother Perkins, Brother Heru & Anastasia Morningstar) vs Miracle Generation (Dustin Walker & Kylon King) and The Haven (Jay Onyx & Shawn Knyte)

I MAY have had something to do with that entrance. So is Anastasia PART of the church now??? This is a just gonna be a wild match. Brother Greatness takes the the bulk of the early punishment but Heru tags in, drops Waller and BG is back to make him pay for his sins. Waller gets dragged into the church corner and forced into some penance. Perkins in and does squats with Waller in a one arm slam. Onyx tags in for the save, big senton to BG! Morningstar tries to cut it off, big chokeslam! Knyte saves his partner. The church sent to the floor, Waller up and over! Perkins almost wiped out  y Ming I to the hard cam. Haven hits BG with a flatliner cutter combo for the pin! The Church of Greatness just experienced a real miracle! This was really fun.

Winners: Miracle Generation & The Haven

It’s time for the Max Caster 10k Open Challenge. Who thinks they can last 10 minutes with (or BEAT?!?) the “best wrestler alive”?

Match 9: Platinum Max Caster vs “The Victorious BRG” Brett Ryan Gosling (w/ his trusty steed Clip Clop)

Llllllllllllllol. BRG comes out to “Rap is Crap”, says HOWDY and that Caster is gonna fall in a rap battle…with “Clip Clop the Hip Hop Horse”. Clip Clop has shades…and “bars” (or at least a galloping sound effect). Paul Crockett says Clip Clop is clearly into mumble rap. Even Caster appreciates how good this but was. Caster gets one line of retort out, calling BRG Woody from Toy Story…before BRG ambushes him and runs to the floor and tries to run the clock out. He’s gotta run for 10 minutes?!? Caster gives chase but BRG is back in and out to keep the countout resetting. Caster finally catches up with a dropkick to the outside, BRG trying to run again but Caster pulls him back by his trunks, hip toss and tries to lock up the legs. BRG suplexes Max to the floor! Caster getting stomped out and tossed out. Gosling is just as happy to take a count out win! Caster is back in, dropkick to the knee, BRG targets that limb. Caster tries to switch to a rear naked but BRG punches at the knee to get free. BRG tries a backslide but Caster with a double stomp to the back! Kick out! BRG takes back over on the knee. We’re at the 7 minute mark! BRG’s strategy could pay off! BRG comes in for Sweet Victory. Caster meets him in the middle with a double stomp out of the air. Mic Drop! BRG is done! This was really entertaining!

Winner: Max Caster

Main Event: The Brick City Boyz (Victor Chase & JCruz) vs Shook Crew (Bryce Donovan & Bobby Orlando w/ Bobby Jr)

This main event is a preview of the upcoming Saturn & Kronos Eliminator Cup Tournament that is kicking off in mid-June! Shook Crew goes right to work on Cruz, Bobby is fired up after his ultimate victory over Brick & Mortar these past few weeks. Donovan uses a miscommunication to send Chase flying off the apron. Chase ambushes Bryce from the floor in retaliation and Cruz takes over the beatdown. Chase tags in but Bryce escapes, HOT TAG! Bobby lands lots of Bobby slams, Bryce in, double Bobby Slam—annnnnnnnd we have to evacuate the building. Legit. Please hold.

So yeah, that happened! So glad no one was hurt and it turned out to be nothing harmful in the long term. The White Eagle probably needs to fix their AC though. It was wild to watch that bit back on the stream this AM and thanks to a number of people who reached out to me after the broadcast was cut to make sure everyone was okay.

But we weren’t ENTIRELY DONE! Suddenly, a rumble broke out in the parking lot between Alec Price and Brad Hollister!

So I guess we are definitely getting that submission match! Also, I had one last thing for Brother Greatness that happened in the parking lot:

And that’s the VERY FULL report from this week’s Wrestling Open. This was already a good show from the matches alone but the sudden unexpected ending was ALMOST like a blessing in disguise. Was the sudden ending unfortunate? Yes.  But since no one was hurt, let’s look at the positives. I was already digging that Brick City/Shook Crew match and the naturally occurring lack of a finish makes me even more hype for this to get run back in the upcoming tournament. The Price/Hollister angle was magic in the streets of Worcester. Wrestling Open turned on a dime and got that segment filmed after making sure everyone was out safe. The Worcester crowd showed that we might be a pack of unruly hooligans, worms and heathens…but we got out of there without any sort of panic or hysteria and made sure we were all okay. Very thankful for everyone involved. You all know I’m very onboard with Wrestling Open but this might be one of the most personally memorable ever. See you next Thursday!

And one last thing:
