5/15/22 Results from New Japan’s Best of the Super Junior 29 From Aichi, Nagoya, Japan:
The show begins with a video package highlighting all the competitors in the BOSJ 29. The video makes this feel like an important event.
There are no guardrails around ringside. Kevin Kelly said this was done for safety for the wrestlers who would be flying around.
Ryohei Oiwa, Kosei Fujita, Yuto Nakashima and Wheeler Yuta vs. Master Wato, Tiger Mask, Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Robbie Eagles
Wato pins Fujita with Recientemente.
Eagles and Yuta have words after the match. They will meet on Tuesday in the B Block.
El Phantasmo and Dick Togo vs. BUSHI and Shingo Takagi
ELP was hesitant to give Togo a Two Sweet Salute, but they did it anyway. Still teasing issues between Bullet Club and House of Torture.
Takagi pins Togo after a Pumping Bomber.
DOUKI, TAKA Michinoku and El Desperado vs. El Lindaman, Titan and Jado
DOUKI and Desperado are arguing prior to the match them as they will face each other later in the B Block.
Titan pins TAKA with a springboard double stomp.
Best of the Super Juniors 29 - A Block Matches:
Ace Austin vs. Clark Conners
Conners goes for a wrist lock. Austin uses his speed to escape. Conners throws chops and using his power to keep Austin grounded. Austin counters with dropkick to the hamstrings. Austin arm drags Conners and pulls out an Ace playing card from his arm pad. He uses the card to cut Conners’ hand, with the announcers saying it is like a paper cut. Conners sells it. Austin hits a dropkick and gets a two count. Conners hits a Pounce, sending Ace flying across the ring. Conners hits an Extinction Elbow. Two count. Match goes to the floor. Austin hits a moonsault over the ropes on Conners. Austin hits a spin kick back in the ring. Two count. Austin goes for The Fold but Conners hits a spear. Two count. Conners hits a quick power slam. Austin counters with two high knees and a spin kick. Austin hits the House of Cards and The Fold.
Austin pins Conners.
Ace Austin earns two points.
Yoshinobu Kanemaru vs. Alex Zayne
They start with wrist locks but Zayne dropkicks Kanemaru to the floor. Kanemaru jumps back in and applies a sleeper. Zayne elbows his way out. Kanemaru dropkicks Zayne’s left knee and wrapping it around the ring post. Zayne hits a reverse headscissors. A dropkick sends Kanemaru to the floor. Zayne spring boards off the ropes with a moonsault onto Kanemaru. Back in the ring, Zayne hits a Houston Hangover on the back of Kanemaru’s head. Zayne goes for a 450 splash, Kanemaru avoids it and dropkicks the left knee. Kanemaru applies the figure four leg lock. Zayne gets a rope break. Kanemaru goes for a moonsault but Zayne escapes. Zayne hits a lariat. Kanemaru tries for near falls. Zayne super kicks Kanemaru in the face. Zayne puts Kanemaru on the top turnbuckle. Zayne hits a somersault flip into a hurricanrana. Two count. Zayne hits a Baja Blast. Zayne with a Cinnamon Twist.
Zayne pins Kanemaru.
Alex Zayne earns 2 points.
Francesco Akira vs. SHO
Akira comes to the ring with United Empire teammate TJP. No Dick Togo.
SHO attacks Akira at the bell. Akira takes down SHO with a headscissors. SHO goes to the floor. Akira with a plancha. SHO is thrown back in the ring. Akira hits a slingshot cutter. Two count. Akira with a neck breaker. Two count. SHO goes to the floor. He attacks the left arm of Akira by whipping it off the top rope. SHO with a dropkick to the left shoulder. Akira goes to the floor. SHO is bleeding from the mouth and he gets a chair. TJP tries to stop him but he gets a chair in the gut. SHO drags Akira down the entryway by the back of the arena. The referee tries to take the chair away but he is dragged too. SHO gives up the chair to the referee and throws Akira into a brick wall.
SHO tries to hit Akira with the BOSJ Trophy but the referee stops him. SHO blasts Akira with the chair instead. Akira drags himself back to the ring. SHO applies a double wrist lock. Akira breaks it up with chops. Pace picks up. Akira hits a corkscrew neck breaker. Two count. They exchange strikes. SHO uses the referee to distract and he spears Akira. SHO goes for a cross arm breaker. Akira gets to the ropes. The exchange reversals. Akira smashes into the referee. SHO hits a German suplex. SHO goes for his wrench but TJP takes it away. Akira hits a Fire Plex. Two count. Akira hits The Last Round. Akira hits a Fireball to the head of SHO.
Akira pins SHO.

Good night so far for newbies in the BOSJ 29. Akira looked good. SHO was a good heel for him to play off of for his first match in New Japan. Akira played the match like a babyface, which he played well in this event. However, United Empire is a heelish group, so Akira will have to make a switch in his upcoming matches towards a harder heel style of wrestling.
Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Hiromu Takahashi
Taguchi goes for a hip attack at the bell and misses. Taguchi invites Hiromu to pin him. Taguchi tries for an ankle lock. Hiromu escapes the ring. They chase each other around the ring. Both men almost get counted out. Taguchi kept going for the ankle lock and Hiromu kept escaping. Pace picks up. They exchange reversals. Hiromu rolls up Taguchi with a Hiromu Roll, as the announcers called it.
Hiromu pins Taguchi.
Hiromu Takahashi earns 2 points.
YOH vs. Taiji Ishimori
Both men exchange arm locks and reversals. YOH hits a dropkick to the face. Ishimori takes down YOH out of the ring and YOH lands on his left arm. Ishimori wraps his arm around the ring post. Ishimori smashes YOH’s arm with a chair. Ishimori attacks the left arm with submissions and strikes. YOH hits a flying elbow. Ishimori goes to the floor. YOH hits a tope con hilo. YOH gets the advantage but Ishimori fights back with a shoulder breaker. YOH hits a dragon screw on Ishimori’s right leg. YOH hits a Falcon Arrow. Two count. YOH gets an ankle submission. Ishimori screams and fights his way to the ropes. Ishimori counters with a lung blower. Both men exchange strikes. YOH hits a headbutt and follows with a DMV. YOH goes for a Direct Drive but Ishimori sends him into the ring post. YOH fights back and tries for the Direct Drive again. Ishimori reverses out and hits La Mistica, then applies the Bone Lock. YOH tried for the ropes. Ishimori rolled him to the middle of the ring. Ishimori pulled back even harder.
YOH taps out.
Taiji Ishimori earns 2 points.
Ishimori takes the mic and puts over YOH. He feels better to be back in Nagoya with the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship. He says he is the strength of the Jr. Division and he will reshape this Division in New Japan.
