By Anthony Pires on 2022-05-11 20:32:00

It's Wednesday Night! And that means I'm back! Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone are calling the action tonight for AEW Dynamite.

Full disclosure, last Wednesday was May 4th.  My sister got entered accidentally in a Star Wars Trivia contest and her nerd brother had to save her.

Owen Hart Quarterfinal Match: Adam Cole vs. Dax Harwood

Dr. Martha Hart is watching form what appears to be a luxury box.  Lockup, Cole forces the break and pie faces Dax.  Lockup, armtwist by Cole into a series of reversals and leads to a side headlock takeover by Dax.  Cole forces a break and Dax goes to work with chops.  Knee to the gut by Cole. Cole with ground and pound. Rude Awakening by Cole.  Cole sends Dax into the buckle and drives the boot to the face.  Duck by Dax and he hits a series of jabs. They trade rollups.  Cole sends Harwood into the post shoulder first.  Outside the ring, Cole sends Dax into the steps.  Cole does it again.  Dax is favoring his ribs.  Cole with a forearm but Dax with a chop as we go to commercial.

As we return it's Cole with a forearm in the corner and Dax gets thrown hard into the buckle. Cole with a palm strike, into a series of elbows.  Dax with a surprise pair of Germans.  Cole delivers one of his own but Harwood responds with a 3rd. Dax to the top, cole meets him but gets thrown off. Slingshot powerbomb by Harwood for 2.  Brainbuster on the knee for 2 by Cole.  Cole misses a superkick and Dax with a splash for 2.  He tries another splash but gets superkicked for 2.  They trade 2 counts.  Kick by cole he tries the Panama Sunrise but it gets blocked.  Upkick by Cole.  Hardwood blocks another Sunrise and hits a piledriver for 2. Harwood applies the sharpshooter. Dax drops from the pain in his ribs. Cole blocks Dax to the floor. Harwood barely beats the count. Cole with the Sharpshooter and Harwood finally taps.

WINNER ADAM COLE (advances to the semi finals)

We hear from Jeff Hardy and Darby Allin ahead of their tournament match later tonight.

Adam Page comes to the ring and is the 4th man in the booth

CM Punk vs John Silver

Punk heels the crowd by wearing a 91 John Tavares Jersey (I'll explain it on the post game show).  Lockup, Punk forces a break.  Long Island is passionate about Punk, one way or the other.  Side headlock by Punk, Silver with a shoulderbreak.  Silver with a backslide for 2.  Punk seems perplexed but forces Silver into a chase where he drops a double forearm on Silver. Silver batters him in the corner.  Punk throws Silver away from an attempted DDT as we head to commercial...

We're back and Punk sends Silver into the buckle but misses the charge.  Forearm and chop by Silver. Kicks by Silver. Punk with a backslide but Silver slips out and hits a kick and brainbuster for 2. Great showing for Silver as he connects with a running forearm and a DDT for 2.  Silver tries a spin doctor but Punk rolls out and connects with a kick.  Running knee by Punk into a short clothesline.  Leg Lariat by Punk.  Excalibur suggests Punk is trying to make nice with Long Island, not making the John Tavares connection.  Punk with a Buckshot Lariat for the pin.

WINNER CM PUNK

Page storms the ring and they go nose to nose.  Punk suggests that Page is taking this personally.  It's just business to him.  Punk believes he is the real champion.  Punk says his win over Silver is a blueprint.  He offers his hand and Page flips him off and storms away.

Tony Schiavone is with Jamie Hayter, ahead of the Owen Hart tournament match with Toni Storm.  Dr, Baker does the talking for Hayter.

Danhausen vs Tony Nese w/Smart Mark Sterling

Nese poses and attacks immediately and nails a running knee for the pin.

WINNER: TONY NESE

That was quick.  Sterling reminds Nese that Danhausen got an entrance and Nese didn't.  Nese with another knee.  He goes for another but in interrupted by the Cold Hearted Handsome Devil Hook.  Nese bails. Danhausen and Hook shake hands.

Wardow shrugs and the crowd lets him have it.  MJF tries to "calm" the crowd down.  here are the conditions for the match. It's time for the MJF v Wardlow contract signing.  Wardlow is escorted to the ring in handcuffs by security. Oh god we're getting a Dark Side of the Ring about MJF, narrated by Chris Jericho. Jake Roberts, Taz and Barry Horowitz do the talking head interviews.  Just watch this please! This is sooooo good!  Hometown boy MJF comes out to a wild ovation.  He's wearing a #55 MJF jersey. That makes Long Island happy.  MJF sends his love to Long Island.  MJF gives Wardlow the chance to speak.  He tells the crowd to be respectful... *wink wink*

  • MJF demands the 10 lashes, akin to what happened with Cody 2 years back.
  • He must wrestle Shawn Spears in a cage with MJF as referee
  • If Wardlow loses at Double or Nothing, he will never be allowed to sign an AEW contract ever

Wardlow tries to sign the contract but the cuffs make it impossible.  He's freed and signs the contract and beats down security.  Spears gets dropped.  MJF tries to bail.  Wardlow goes for a powerbomb MJF but Mark Sterling jumps on Wardlows back.  Wardlow sets up the chair and we get the Power Bomb.

Seriously, go out of your way to watch the DSOTR skit:

We get words from Samoa Joe, Sonjay Dutt and Jay Lethal.

FTW Championship Ricky Starks (champion) vs Jungle Boy Jack Perry

Chain wrestling starts us off into slaps by the champion.  Front facelock into a kick by Perry.  Waistlock by Perry, Starks reverses it. Side headlock takedown by Perry. They trade punches.  Knee to the back by Starks.  Starks with a armbar springboard, Perry responds with one of his own as we go to commercial...

Taz had joined the booth at the beginning of this match.  As we return, IT's Jungle Boy with chops into a big comebacker lariat.  Spin kick by Jungle Boy. Starks blocks a DDT attempt but Perry is able to finally execute after springboarding off the rope.  Backslide for 2 by Perry.  Starks goes for Rochambeau but Perry counters it with a superkick for 2.  Spear by Starks for 2.  Starks is shocked.  Perry with the snare trap, Starks makes the ropes.  Hangman snap by Starks.  Swerve Strickland comes out for a distraction.  As Perry has Starks pinned, the ref is distracted ejecting Swerve.  Rochambeau by the champ for the pin.

WINNER RICKY STARKS (retains FTW Title)

Luchasaurus and Christian Cage come out and get in Swerve's face, as his distraction clearly cost Perry the match.  Keith Lee comes out as did Powerhouse Hobbs. All three teams face off.  Cage stays behind and approaches Perry, consoling him over the loss.  Taz thanks the booth for having him.

The Jericho Appreciation Society comes out for a victory speech. 2.0 puts over Jericho and he calls Long Island a dump.  He calls himself a wizard and celebrates the fact that they put out Ortiz, Santana and Eddie Kingston.  Jericho brings Kingston's wife into the discussion. That will not go over well.  Here comes Jon Moxley. Jericho gives him a chance to leave.  He says it's 5 on 1 and this brings out the The Blackpool Combat Club.  Santana, Ortiz and Kingston come from behind. They brawl briefly before the JAS bail.  Regal punches Jericho.

We get a Serena Deeb vs. Thunder Rosa preview. Anyone who saw their NWA Title match in 2020 has GOT to be excited about this.

Owen Hart Tournament Quarter Final: Jamie Hayter vs. Toni Storm

Headlock by Strom, Hayter takes her down for a rollup. Front face lock by Hayter, Storm reverses it.  Hayter punches out and they stare each other down.  Test of strength, Hayter with a takedown. The action spills to the outside and Hayter sends Strom to the rail.  We go to commercial.

Storm follows up with a DDT on the floor and rolls Hayter back in.  Storm with a cross body for 2.  Backbreaker by Hayter for 2. German by Storm for 2.  Rock Bottom on the apron by Hayter. Hayter with a superplex. Storm with a rollup for 2. Storm with Storm zero for the pin.

WINNER: TONI STORM

We hear from Scorpio Sky and Frankie Kazarian ahead of their TNT Title Match on Rampage.  Sammy and Tay Conti interrupt Kazarian.  Why do I sense they'll get involved Friday.

Wardlow's 10 lashes are next week.

Owen Hart Tournament Anything Goes: Jeff Hardy vs. Darby Allin

Dropkick by Allin, Hardy to the floor, Allin follows up with a lope suicida.  Allin grabs chairs and sets them up. Flapjack by Hardy to the steps.  Hardy leaps over the steps into a huge flying clothesline.

Dammit they just announced AEW's Worchester MA debut. I'll be away.  Hardy introduces a ladder as we go to commercial.

During commercial a ladder was set up and Allin throws Hardy off and crotches Hardy on the rope. He then hits a senton to the floor and they land on the previously set up chairs. That was insane.  Allin drags Hardy back into the ring and sets up the coffin drop. He misses the coffin drop on the apron as Hardy got out of the way. Cutter by Hardy as he sets Allin on the steps. Allin gets out of the way as Hardy nails the steps.  How these guys are standing is amazing to me.  Allin rolls Hardy into the ring and nails a coffin drop. Hardy with a crucifix for the pin.

WINNER JEFF HARDY (advances in the tournament).

Code of Honor adhered to as we go to credits.
