LIVE THOUGHTS FROM BACKLASH

By Anthony Pires on 2022-05-08 21:26:00

Providence RI came out in droves. I don’t know how many comps there are but the Dunkin Donuts Center is packed and extremely lively. Cody Rhodes merchandise is flying off the shelf. Lines are 40 minutes long for merchandise

I don’t know how this comes across on TV but the crowd is super into Rollins v Rhodes. Everything they’re doing is eliciting a huge reaction. From an audience standpoint this could very well be the main event. This is awesome. Fight forever. We’re chanting it. The place came unglued on the Cross Rhodes spot. Rhodes wins!  What. A. Match

For a show with only 6 matches, they’re making the most of their minutes here. This will be a classic if they give it time. AJ and Edge are so good I can’t believe their ages here.

Omos v Lashley was the definition of a come down match. Crowd was too spent to really get into it. Omos winning was the right move as he needed some redemption.

Edge is so much better in this role and AJ shines as the babyface fighting from behind. Great action so far. Calf Crusher looks BRUTAL

RiGht now my honest opinion is that WWE messed up big time by putting Cody v Rollins on first. Make no mistake: Edge and AJ are giving it their all but the crowd has already hit their max.

Things pick up as Priest and Balor interfere. AJ loses consciousness in the cross face. Providence FINALLY comes back to life for Rhea Ripley’s introduction as Edges new disciple.

Alright not going to lie. I’m likely grabbing a beer during this one. They’re putting this in the absolute death spot following Rhonda v Charlotte and right before the “main event”.

An “end this match” chant breaks out at the opening bell. Providence is not feeling this at all. Can’t blame us giving how badly these guys get portrayed on Smackdown. I feel bad for Corbin. I know he’s good. I know he tries hard. He does the best with what’s given to him. Providence booed when the double count out DIDN’T happen. Rose Namajunas vs Carla Esparza May be more entertaining than this.

This should have been the opener to get it over with. No way it should be be sandwiches between the Ronda match and the 6 man tag. I feel bad for these 2. They’re trying but we in RI want none of it. Moss wins. Thank god. Let’s move on.

Ronda v Flair sounds brutal with the kendo sticks. Charlotte’s submission attempt on the rail is a nice callback to the match with Banks some 5 years ago. Live, this is coming off like a hell of a fight. Providence sees these 2 as total and complete stars.

Flair survives the armbar, something Meisha Tate & Betch Correa Never did.

This is a helluva fight. Good freaking luck to the poor SOBs that follow this. Ronda with the W as well it should be!!!  Providence is happy. So am I.

Time for our main event. Honestly was pretty bummed out when the tag team title unification match got changed to a 6 man. Would have had some stakes, which we expect our WWE main events to have. There are stories to tell here, though. Some guy here is very agitated that he didn’t see Liv Morgan.

Providence wants Drew v Roman and they’re doing a master full job of teasing it. This here is the Uso show this far.

Can’t imagine turning off this show and at least not feeling entertained. Place came alive when Drew and Roman squared off. This is clearly where we’re headed for the immediate future. Crowd is wicked into Randy. Claymore out of nowhere has us alive. Randy tags in and The Dunk is on fire. A series of RKO’s on the Usos. Great Claymore tease into a double super kick by the Usos

There was some backlash (pun intended) on the main event being a 6 man but, by god, these 6 have delivered. Drew sets up the table but it’s Roman that puts him through it. Providence definitely loves this demolition derby. Roman scores the W. What. A. Fight

That’s all from Providence. Thanks for reading
