AEW RAMPAGE REPORT

By Cory Strode on 2022-05-06 22:26:00

It is Friday, and AEW Rampage was recorded after Dynamite on Wednesday in Baltimore, MD at the Chesapeake Employers Insurance Arena. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Taz. Ricky Starks and Chris Jericho.

The show is on EXTRA early due to the NBA Playoffs, so if it started while you were at work, we’ve got your back.

Unless you DVR’d it, then we’re just doing our normal coverage.

Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter vs Ruby Soho and Toni Storm

Storm and Hayter lock up and release quickly. They lock up a second time and go to running the ropes with Hayter hitting the shoulder tackle on Storm. Storm can’t do the same the first two times, but drops Hayter on the third as the crowd chants Pittsburgh sucks. Storm tosses Hayter to their corner and Solo tags in. Hayter picks up Soho and taker he to her corner and tags in Baker.

They run the ropes and Baker gets a sling blade and a two count. Soho reverses an air raid crash for a two count and then rolls up Baker for another two count. Fast paced match to start off the show. They trade waist locks and Storm is able to tag in and her and Solo hit a leg sweep on Baker. Storm tosses Baker to the corner and when she tries to follow up, Baker hits a face slam and a back slam in succession, then get a two count as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Storm is in the corner and Hayter pulls her out and tosses her into the corner again. Hayter tosses Storm to the opposite corner and Soho lays across the top turnbuckle to absorb the blow. Storm pops out and hits Hayter with a German suplex. Both women are down and its time to see who gets to the corner first. Soho and Baker and tagged in at the same time and Soho cleans house. Storm got a blind tag, but she is cut off by Hayter. Baker goes for the Pittsburgh sunrise, but Soho cuts her off. Storm slams Baker on Hayter, and when she goes for the Storm Zero, Baker counters with the air raid crash.

Both are down and then get up throwing hands in the middle of the ring. Baker drop Storm and starts for the lock jaw. Storm is able to roll Baker up to break the count, and then follows with another German suplex. She puts Baker on the top and Rebel gets on the apron, and gouges the eyes while the ref is detracted. Baker and Hayter double team Storm until Baker gets the curb stomp. Hayter keep Soho from breaking it up and Baker only gets a two as Hayter and Soho fall into them.

Storm hits a thrust kick and rolls up Baker for the three count.

Winners: Toni Storm and Ruby Soho.

Eddie Kingston calls to talk to Jericho. He talks about how his wife was upset about the fireball Jericho threw at him. It’s no longer about pro wrestling, and all he cares about is making Jericho feel the fear and pain that his wife felt.

Mark Sterling and Tony Nese complain about him not getting matches on the shows. Mark says they have requested a match against Danhausen.

Hook vs JD Drake

Highlights: Hook head butts a chop. Hook hits a side suplex on Drake, who is twice his size. Hook floats over and locks in a redrum from Drake trying a reverse DDT.

Winner: Hook

Danhausen comes out. Danhausen asks Hook to help him with his Tony Nese match. The crowd chants Hookhausen as he asks Hook to be in his corner. Danhausen taps Hook and Hook shoves Danhausen down. And Danhausen leaves a bag of snacks for Hook as he leave the ring. Hook leaves the snacks and goes to the back.

FTR is in the back and they talk about their match and how Dax won between the two of them. He talks about how Cole is not a decent human being. He also talks about how he likes being cheered, but he used to be a nasty bastard, and he will be one again when he faces Cole.

Both are returning from not being in AEW for a while.

Winner: Riho

Shawn Spears has a pre-tape when he wants Wardlow to listen. He says he does bad things for a good reason. And even Superman has Kryptonite, and he shows the chair saying that is Wardlow’s kryptonite.

In the ring, Dan Lambert, Ethan Page and Scorpio Sky and he’s back in full heel mode. He mocks the people of Baltimore. Ethan Page says that he didn’t want his daughter watching him wrestle Sammy Guevara and Tay Conti making out. He says the mixed tag match is off.

Frankie Kazarian comes out and mocks Ethan Page. He reminds Scorpio Sky that they had a deal and he’s always been his biggest supporter.

Ethan Page keeps Scorpio for speaking, and Sky stops him and says he will bring respect back to the TNT champion. He says he will do it by being a fighting champion. He tells Dan Lambert to put his belt in the trophy case and next week, Frankie Kazarian has his shot. I like this sequence a lot. Really made Scorpio looks strong and gave him away to break away from Lambert.

They start to go down the card for Dynamite, but Jungle Boy comes out. Ricky Starks, who is facing him next Wednesday gets up and they come to blows. JB is able to rip of Stark’s shirt and causes him to run to the back. JB holds up the FTW belt and then he hands it back to Taz.

It’s time for the Mark Henry’s interview with Takeshida and Jay Lethal.

Jay Lethal vs KonosukeTakeshida

Lethal has Satnam Singh and Sonjey Dutt at ringside.

They lock up and the crowd is chanting for Lethal. Takeshida takes down Lethal, who gets to the ropes to break the take down. Takeshida is able to take down Lethal with a headlock, but Lethal works his way up and take Takeshida down. Takeshida is up and Lethal takes him down quickly with a hip toss. Lehtal hits the cartwheel into the drop kick and then struts.

Takeshida is able to get up and hits a series of chops and then then a series of hip tosses followed by his own strutting. They work into the corner and then into the ropes where Takeshida hits a leaping shoulder tackle with a flip at the end. Lethal goes to the outside and Takeshida goes over the top rope to land on him.

Takeshida tosses Lethal back in the ring and Singh shows up and intimidates Takeshida. Lethal attacks Takeshida on his way into the ring, knocks him to the floor and hits a dive into him as we go picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Lethal and Takeshida have gone 50:50 through the break. They are both on the top and Takeshida hits a lariat off the top for a two count. Takeshida tries for a dragon sup-lex, but Lethal rolls through and gets the figure four leg lock on. Takeshida makes it to the rope and Lethal drags him to the middle of the ring and Takeshida hits a sheer drop brainbuster for a two count.

Takeshida pulls Lethal up and hits a series of strike, but Lethal gets the Lethal combination and Lethal goes for the Lethal Injection, but Takeshida dodges and hits Lethal with a jumping knee and Dutt gets on the apron to break the count. Takeshida hits a brutal series of strikes and Lethal nails Takeshida’s knee. He then hits a Lethal Injection and covers for the three count.

Winner: Jay Lethal

Dutt leads an attack on Takeshida, but the Best Friends come out for the save. Singh takes out Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta. Orange Cassidy and Singh go face to face, but before Singh can do anything, Samoa Joe heads out and the security folks show up to hold Joe back as we are desperately out of time!
