Wrestling Open Week 18

5/5/22 - Worcester, MA

Streaming on IWTV.live

Ready for a Stacked AF episode of Wrestling Open, kids? We have so much going on tonight from the return of Alex Reynolds to Worcester, to Bobby Orlando getting his 1on1 match with Mortar, to Alec Price attempting to get revenge on Big Bacon Brad Hollister, to Love Doug trying to silence Eric James, to the revelation that Channing Thomas might have two friends in the world! I’m also excited for the debut of Landon Hale, recently relocated to the area who I know from my coverage of the Southeast scene! But first, we have a spotlight match!

Spotlight Match: Anthony Catena vs Rex Lawless

Catena makes me think of a young Dolph Lundgren for some reason. He’s not thrilled that this is a very pro-Rex crowd. Rex doesn’t care and sends him for a ride across the ring. Rex whips him right over the corner to the floor and then tosses back in. Catena tries to put the big man to sleep…he tries to kill him with a rollup right into the bottom rope. Rex powers back, big lariats, back drop! Big boot, tornado boot. Catena escapes the chokebomb, tries to lift Rex for a finish but he can’t get it! Rex rebounds and flips him inside mouth with a spear for the pin!

Winner: Rex Lawless

And we’re live on IWTV! Paul Crockett is your commentator. Rich Palladino is your announcer. Worcester is looking hot for put Cinco de Mayo episode of Wrestling Open. Let’s gooooooooo!

PLATINUM MAX CASTER IS HERE! He has a briefcase? He’s out here to hype up our crowd!!! Orlando vs Mortar is our main event! But he’s not getting involved in that match…so why is he here? He’s been WATCHING these past few weeks and he wants to give back to this locker room. He’s giving an opportunity…every week it’s an Open Challenge with Max. And that briefcase? If anyone lasts 10 minutes with Platinum Max…they get $10,000 of his own money! Whoa! Next week, someone will have to put up or shut up!

Match 1: “The One Man Boy Band” Eric James vs Love, Doug

Doug has had enough of Mr. Boy Band’s Boy Band Bulls***. Doug comes in hot early. James hides in the corner and a distracted ref allows him to remove the second buckle pad. James chopping Doug up while that exposed buckle sits like Chekov’s gun. He’s gets a little backstreet’s back spot in, we answer his queries with a resounding NOOOOOO. James dodges a sliced bread, neckbreaker and a tiger bomb for two! Elbow drop across the ring! Kick out! God this crowd is fire for Doug. Doug rolls up the TKO. Kick out! James throws Doug out of his bulldog attempt but walks into the Slice of Love for two! A few mistimed spots as they reverse reversals but Doug hits a springboard back elbow. Doug comes running but gets tripped face first into that exposed buckle. Doug got limp and Eric James drags him out of the corner for the pin. This should have worked better than it did. The crowd kept this on fire throughout this thankfully.

Winner: Eric James

Match 2: “The Finisher” Steve Pena vs “The Ghetto Samurai” Nolo Kitano

Peña trying to show power but Nolo is allllllllll over these flips and getting out of danger. Great energy. Peña has had enough of these chops and fires back with his own, crumbling Nolo. Big suplex throws Nolo out of the corner. Peña drops out of the corner but Nolo with a jump split into a double stomp. Siiiiiick spot. Nolo with a handspring pele. Peña with a saito! Peña almost has the finish but Nolo spins through with a leg trap neckbreaker for the pin! Fun little fight here!

Winner: Nolo Kitano

Match 3: “Fight or Flight” Gabriel Skye vs SLADE

We get MURDER tonight?!?! Gabe goes right at the mad man from the bell and tries to beat him down. Running knee strike! This…doesn’t really work. SLADE goes for a powerslam and Skye tries a rollup. Nope. He tries to batter SLADE with strikes and kicks. Nope. SLADE decks him in the face and Skye falls hard. Sky reverses the chokeslam, belly to back butterfly suplex! SLADE punches him out of the air. Big chokeslam! Three count! Yay murder!

Winner: SLADE

Match 4: Landon Hale vs “The Shore Thing” Ray Jaz

NOT RAY JAAAAAAAAAAZ NOOOOOOOO! The tip? “You’re only as good as your last match” and last week they lost. He points out that he didn’t take the pin. Landon Hale puts on a SHOW in the opening minute or so, keeping Jaz off his feet with some great flipping attacks. Jaz with a knee to the gut and he goes on the attack, targeting the midsection. Big kicks, knees, shoulder tackles and slams. Rolling back suplex for two. Landon flips out, big lariats! Belly to back toss! Jaz with a kick, eats a knee. Chop block out of a handspring drops Hale and Ray applies the Jazmission to get the tap! Boooooooo! Really good debut for Hale, who popped the crowd with some unexpected flippery and good wrestling…and yeah, I will never cheer him but even Ray Jaz was good. Sigh.

Winner: Ray Jaz

Match 4: The Church of Greatness (Brother Greatness, Jay Heru, & Boom Harden) & Anastasia Morningstar vs Johnny Santos, Clara Carreras & The Hispanic Mechanics (Jos A & Jos B)

We get a good Satan Chant going!!!! Clara and Morningstar start off but Clara eats some hard shots. Santos and the Mechanics get the dance party started and give BG and Heru hell. Heru with a shot to the back and Jos B is in trouble, taking multiple tags worth of painful receipts. Santos and Clara with a great tandem splash but Morningstar breaks up the pin. Mechanics with a double flapjack to Boom! Heru accidentally big boots BG! Boom tossed. Mechanics hit Heru with a modified Magic Killer for the win! A lot happened here and the match was a lot of fun!

Winners: Santos, Carraras & Hispanic Mechanics

Match 5: “World Class” Channing Thomas (w/ Sidney Bakabella) & The Rep (Dave McCall & Nate Carter) vs Miracle Ones (Dustin Waller, Kylon King & Ichiban)

Ok fine, I’ll boo The Rep tonight. Nate Carter comes with the power but Miracle Ones are quick and swarm him but Kylon winds up in the wrong part of town. McCall landing some heavy chops. Channing puts on Ichiban’s stolen mask to taunt him while he beats up his friend. McCall with a pop up into a Carter spine buster. Kylon ducks, McCall wiped out Carter with a head kick! Channing can’t stop the tag to Ichiban! Number One flies in and pummels, trying to rip the mask from Channing’s head. He gets the mask back and puts it on over his current mask. Carter catches Ivan out of the air and yeets him through the ropes. Channing Thomas and Bakabella hide at the curtain. Ichiban hits the flatliner on McCall while Channing vacates the room. This is Channing Thomas’ first official L at Wrestling Open!

Winner: Miracle Ones

Match 6: “The Prize” Alec Price(c) vs “Big Bacon” Brad Hollister (for the SUP Bonestorm championship)

Price dives right out at Hollister during his entrance. Tornado ddt off the steps to the same patch of floor that hospitalized Hollister years ago. Bacon with a right hand sends Price to the apron. Outside inside superplex from the second! Kick out! Price throwing hands but Hollister is walking through them and blasting the champ with headbutts and suplexes. German suplexes and chokes. Price is getting manhandled. Bacon trying to choke him out, Price with the rollup for two. Pop up dropkick from the heavens! Brad dropped on his head and does Price have this?!? Kick out! Price with the series of knees! Hollister with a lariat, powerbomb, sitout powerbomb for two! Price off the top! He falls into a rear naked choke! Price is going out! Rally back, he gets the rope. Hollister refuses to release the choke after the five count and the ref calls for the bell. Hollister leaves with his hands held high while price is out cold in the ring. Calling this match of the night easily. Hollister, with his new attitude, is quickly becoming Wrestling Open’s Samoa Joe.

Winner: Alec Price (by DQ)

Match 7: Alex Reynolds vs Fancy Ryan Clancy

Reynolds grabs the mic to tell Clancy that he’s great in the ring but he lacks the Whatever It Takes to get rid of the Stetson Ranch….but Reynolds is going to give him a lesson and show him how. Ring the bell. Reynolds tries to dominate on the ground but Clancy keeps managing to reverse the holds into a hammerlock. Reynolds is getting very frustrated as this is not going the way he thought. Reynolds goes to the well and hits some quick kicks to the knee and gut. Clancy with a big back drop to show he’s unfazed. Reynolds dodges a charge, big boot launches Clancy to the ropes. Reynold pulling at the nose and clubbing him from the side of the head. Reynolds taking over the fight and trying to put the kid away. Clancy with a big slam. Two count! “You thought you were gonna teach me a lesson?!?” yells Fancy as he grabs the arms and kicks at Alex’s head. Reynolds out and tries a moonsault but no one’s home. Clancy tries the side Russian leg sweep…Reynolds rolls him up and pulls the tights for the three! He reminds Clancy that he did whatever it took to win. If he wants to beat Steven Stetson next week, he’ll have to do the same. He leaves Clancy with one last instruction: WIN.

Winner: Alex Reynolds

Main Event: Bobby Orlando (w/ Bobby Jr) vs Mortar (Sick Trick Street Fight)

Mortar has a chair right at the start. We call him a Hobbit. Bobby has a crutch. That’s my mom! Let’s gooooo! Orlando knocks the chair out of Mortar’s hands and chases him down outside the ring. Bobby grabs a trash can of mild f***ery. Mortar with a throat chip, he grabs a staple gun! Bobby gets it and staples his chest, butt and groin. Mortar is unhappy. Mortar with a hard overhand swing of a trash can turns the tide fast. This spills into the chairs, Bobby wipes out my section of chairs with Mortar’s stupid body. Gee Thanks Bobby. Bobby tries a senton and goes through a chair oh noooooo. Mortar pummeling with the trash lid again. Mortar piles some chairs. Spine buster! Bobby kicks out! Mortar chokes him with the chair. He gets another stuffed goat and looks to murder it but Bobby saves it with a well timed crutch to Mortar’s little cannonballs. A ton of garbage can shots! Bobby with a cutter off the ropes! Mortar kicks out! Orlando gets a door! It says MOM on it! Mortar fights out of the Bobby bomb! Mortar with a spinning tombstone…kick out! Mortar grabs some venue chairs…the painful ones. He sets up the door as a table. He wants a superplex….Bobby fights it off….Bobby Bomb and through the door! Dabbing Elbow Drop! Bobby wins!!!! Great energy to close this night out!

Winner: Bobby Orlando

Mortar is so out of it, even Bobby Jr gets a three count on Mortar. He says his mission of revenge on Mortar is complete. Sick trick! We seem to be going home but Sidney Bakabella is back out here?!? Why is he here? Sidney says we’re off the air so he can say whatever he wants. He offers to buy the fans several rounds of beers as long as they drive into a wall on the way home. Holy hellllllll. SLADE is here and chokeslams Sidney! Bakabella is laid out as the show ends and SLADE storms out the fire door.

Fantastic show tonight. Price and Hollister had a hell of the throwdown. The multi-person matches were wild and the main event was killer. The Worcester crowd was extra on fire tonight, maybe feeling the pride of Wrestling Open’s recent coverage forays into local publications which has clearly been bringing new faces in. Like I said before, things are happening in Worcester. You realllllllllly should come out here and experience them. See you next Thursday!

Oh and ONE LAST THING. Get hype.
