On his latest Wrestling with Freddie podcast, actor and former WWE writer Freddie Prinze Jr. announced that he has plans to start his own independent wrestling promotion and broke down some basics on his plan.
Prinze Jr. hopes to have the promotion running in 18 months, doing it any sooner will mean time away from his family. He is already working with a commercial realtor to find the location to run. He stated that he envisions his promotion will not have television right away but will be a two-hour show where men and women will get equal time.
Prinze noted he is not using his savings at the behest of his accountant, so he has been taking more acting gigs lately to pay for the project. He wants the show to be a SAG-AFTRA production and makes it clear that wrestlers should not be self-insured.
On the creative end, Prinze stated he will not be the booker but instead he will be behind-the-scenes working on characters and promos. The actor statec he knows what is skill set is. He talks about really deep diving and watching old Ring of Honor, listening to Jim Cornette podcasts and other wrestling media.
Prinze stated that many from the independent wrestling scene have already begun reaching out on working with the promotion which as of yet does not have a name. He stated he has a three year plan for the promotion with a focus on reality-based storylines
