It is Friday and AEW Rampage was taped after Dynamite on Wednesday in Philadelphia, PA at the Liacouras Center.
Our Commentary team is Excalibur, Taz, Ricky Starks, and Chris Jericho.
Darby Allin vs Swerve Strickland in an Owen Hart Tournament Qualifying match.
We start off with both men already in the ring, as has become standard for Rampage’s opening match. The Commentators let us know that these two have worked the independents against and with each other in the Northwest for a long time.
They lock up and they release quickly. Swerve goes in for a waist lock and Darby is able to switch it and they go to the corner. They break with Swerve trying for a back kick and Darby dodging it. Darby goes for a wrist lock after a long pause and takes Swerve down and holds him there. Swerve works up and gets taken down again. They work their way up and do a series of quick takedowns. Darby wins the exchange and holds Swerve down with a headlock.
Swerve reverses into a hammer lock and Darby reverses the hammerlock. Darby gets tossed to the outside. Swerve leaps out and Darby is able to hit him on the floor with a reverse stunner. They go into the ring and Darby gets a two count. Swerve rolls to the outside holding his neck. Darby goes for a tope and runs into a leaping knee strike. Swerve slowly climbs up to the apron as Darby gets to his feet and nails Darby with a kick as we go picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Darby captures Swerve’s ;eg into a knee bar as Swerve stomping down in the corner. Swerve gets to his feet and strikes his way free. He then hits a vertical suplex for a two count. Swerve drags Darby to the corner and leaps, but Darby dodges it and hits a code red for a two count on Swerve. Darby drags Swerve to the middle of the ring. Darby goes for the coffin drop, but Swerve gets his knees up. Swerves gets a strong kick for a two count. Swerves takes Darby to the ropes and then pulls him up for a vertical suplex to the outside.
Swerve puts Darby in the ring and Ricky Starks goes to ringside, but Sting cuts him off. Sting walks toward Starks, who backs away. Darby is able to lock on a reverse ankle lock and holds Swerve down for the three count.
Winner: Darby Allin
Shawn Spears says that MJF gave a clue as to Wardlow’s opponent on Wednesday and he says the manac is seven feet tall and he will get slaughtered next week.
Excalibur says that Jericho’s attack on Eddie Kingston and Jericho says that he is the Sports Entertainer of the week for the fireball he threw. Santana and Ortiz show up and start beating down Jericho, and security stop their attack and force them to the back.
Jericho says that he has a match with Santana next week when we come back from commercial.
Red Velvet, Kiera Hogan, and Jade Cargill vs Sky Blue, Trish Adora and Willow Nightingale
Sky, Trish, and Willow are all in the ring already.
Jade says that Sky isn’t good enough to fight her, and Red tags in and takes her down quickly. Red gets worked over in the Cargill corner.
Willow shoulder blocks Hogan out of the ring. Trish tags in and Hogan gets a little action, but the Cargill tags in and she gets Jades.
Winners: Red Velvet, Kiera Hogan and Jade Cargill
Darby and Swerve are with Tony in the back and Darby says it shouldn't have ended like that, and he would go another five minutes. Swerve says he will be rooting for Darby, and it gives him more ammo against Team Taz.
Keith Lee vs Colton Gunn
Colton Gunn is already in the ring.
They hook up and Lee shoves him into the corner easily. Gunn hits a series of strikes and Lee just looks annoyed. Lee then shoves Gunn into the corner and gives him a brutal chop as we go to picture in picture.
When they return to full screen, Austin Gunn has tried to interfere and Lee has tossed him into the barricade. Lee grabs Lee’s head and shoves him down to the mat. Lee then yeets Gunn across the ring. Lee runs into the corner, and he knocks down Austin, who tried to interfere. Colten gets in a few strikes and finally Lee pancakes Gunn and covers for the three.
Winner: Keith Lee
Tony is the back with the Hardys, and Jeff talks about how he will qualify for the Owen Hart tournament by beating Bobby Fish. Matt joins in and says he will eat a swanton bomb.
The Undisputed Elite also have their camera time and Adam Page says Bobby will win so that three members of the team will be in the tournament.
Danhausen interrupts Excalibur giving the rundown for Dynamite and he is here to take out Hook. He says Send Hook! Hook comes out and heads to the ring. He and Danhausen go face to face. Danhauses says its too extreme to do it now and maybe they should do it another time. Hook says to do it now. Mark Sterling interrupts and asks if people want to see them fight. The crowd says they do, but Tony Nese hits the ring and takes out Danhausen. Hook is able to get Nese out of the ring, but Danhausen thinks his curse caused Nese to leave.
Danhasusen offers to shake hands and Hook instead grabs him by the shirt, yells at him and leaves.
In the back, Lexie is with the Gunns and asks how they feel about the loss. Austin says they don’t count it as a loss The Acclaimed shows up and say that when they work together they can’t be beat. They ask if the Gunns want to scissor with them, and the Gunns say they have to talk to their dad. Anthony Bowers holds up the scissor to Lexie who just says no.
Excalibur runs down the matches for Dynamite and Rampage next week.
Mark Henry interviews Samoa Joe and Trent Baretta.
Samoa Joe (Ring Of Honor TV Champion) vs Trent Beretta
Ian Riccaboni joins the commentary team. Bobby Cruise does the ring announcing.
They follow to Code of Honor with a handshake.
Trent locks on an arm bar and then a headlock. Trent gets shrugged into the ropes and Joe knocks him down with a shoulder block and then peppers him with blows in the corner. Joe tosses him to the opposite corner, runs into him and then hits a leaping kick. Trent goes to the outside and Joe leaps to the outside. Trent gets out of the way and hits a kick then a moonsault on Joe from the apron. Trent keep up the attack on the floor with chops. Joe is able to grab Trent and tosses him back so that he can then kick him down and we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, Joe has been taking Trent apart with strikes and kicks. Joe goes for a power bomb and Trent escapes and drops Joe and drops him out to the floor. Trent hits a cross body from the top onto Joe on the floor. Joe is up first and Trent seems to have tweaked his knee. They go into the ring and Trent is able to get in a series of strikes and then hits a back throw on Joe dropping him to the mat. Trent then hits a tornado DDT for a two count.
Trent tries to life Joe but Joe is able to turn it into a power bomb and Joe holds on for a two count. Joe locks on a STF and Trent is able to make it to the ropes with a foot. Joe starts slapping Trent to mock him. Trent gets to his feet and slaps Joe and Joe levels him for it. Joe puts Trent up on the top, and sets up for the muscle buster. Trent is able to escape for a sunset flip and a two count. Trent ends at Jo eand Joe hits a urinage, and then locks on the rear naked choke. Trent passes out in the hold.
Winner and still Ring Of Honor TV Champion: Samoa Joe
Joe and Trent shake hands. Tony comes to the ring and as Joe starts to talk, Jay Lethal, Sonjay Dutt and Satnum Singh. Cassidy walks up to Singh and puts his hands in his pockets and does the light kicks. Lethal wipes out Cassidy and then goes in to the ring and attacks Joe. Joe and Lethal are pulled apart by referees and staff. Lethal breaks free and attacks and we are desperately out of time!
