ROCK AND CENA NOTES FROM CINEMACON IN LAS VEGAS

By Mike Johnson on 2022-04-27 12:28:00

Cinemacon, the annual largest gathering of movie theater owners, is currently ongoing in Las Vegas.   Last night, Warner Bros. made their presentation with several pro wrestling-related notes coming out of it.

-Coyote vs Acme, featuring John Cena, which will tell the tale of "a down-on-his-luck (human) attorney who takes on Wile E. as a client in his suit against Acme over its defective products, only to discover that his boss at his former law firm is representing Acme" has been bumped from its 7/21/23 release date as Warner will instead release their live-action Barbie movie that date.  There is no new official release date for Cena's film, which began filming in March in New Mexico.

-After faking out those assembled by pretending to be appearing via video from Hawaii, The Rock, Dwayne Johnson appeared live on stage to promote his forthcoming DC Comics films Black Adam and the animated DC League of Super Pets.

“This truly is a dream of mine,” Johnson said. “As I said before, in my fake Hawaii, Black Adam is one of those things that gets me out of bed.  We are positioned nicely to create something different,” the actor said. “The hierarchy of power in the DC universe is about to change.”

Johnson described Black Adam as being inspired by the classic Clint Eastwood Dirty Harry character.    Adam will be released on 10/21.   Black Adam is an ancient Egyptian predecessor of DC Comics' Shazam! who became corrupted after receiving his powers. He's one of the more powerful and popular DC Comic villains and will allow Rock to play a darker character.  There were allusions made to him, although not by name, in DC's feature film adaptation of Shazam!   DC Comics' original superhero team The Justice Society of America will be featured in the film, including the characters of Hawkman, The Atom Smasher, Dr. Fate and Cyclone.

Johnson is voicing Krypto, Superman's dog in the animated DC's League of Super-Pets, which will be released on 7/29.

Rock's production company Seven Bucks Productions are producing the films.
