Warrior Wrestling Crowns Athena as new Women’s Champion;

Will Ospreay Retains his Gold and Calls Out Davey Richards

South Bend, IN (April 24, 2022) – Warrior Wrestling crowned a new women’s champion in South Bend on Saturday night when Athena defeated Skye Blue and Shazza McKenzie to win the title that Thunder Rosa vacated prior to the match. With Thunder Rosa providing color commentary on the live stream on FITE TV, Athena pinned McKenzie to become the 4th woman to hold the most prestigious women’s championship belt in independent professional wrestling. The lineage of champions included Tessa Blanchard, Kylie Rae, Rosa, and now Athena.

In the main event, Will Ospreay retained the Warrior Wrestling Championship over Blake Christian in an instant classic of a match. After his victory, Ospreay told Christian that he respects him but that Christian needs to kill his past self to become a standout star in wrestling.

Ospreay then turned his attention to the next Warrior Wrestling event on May 28 in St. Louis. The champion called out Davey Richards and said he would defend the Warrior title in first-time ever dream match that he has been waiting 8 years for. Warrior Wrestling officials can confirm today that the match is set, and it will be Will Ospreay vs. Davey Richards for the first time ever at Warrior Wrestling 22 on May 28 in the St. Louis / Collinsville area. The podcast “Going Broadway” is the official sponsor of the title match.

This match joins Jeff Cobb vs. JONAH as matches officially announced thus far. Also announced for the event are Athena, Deonnoa Purrazzo, Warhorse, Adam Brooks, KC Navarro, Mike Bennett, Janai Kai, Tootie Lynn, Camaro Jackson, Mike Outlaw, Alex Coughlin, and Yuya Uemura. Couhglin and Uemura will compete in the second installment of the LA Dojo Showcase, which is a partnership between Warrior Wrestling and New Japan Strong to highlight the students of the legendary Katsuyori Shibata.
