4/29 NEW JAPAN PRO WRESTLING HYPER BATTLE 2022 REPORT

Okada vs Sabre Jr., new member of United Empire, G1 Climax 32 announcement, Two matches set for Wrestling Dontaku, 4/9/22 Results from New Japan's Hyper Battle from Ryogoku, Tokyo Japan:

Jado, Tanga Loa, Tama Tonga and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Gedo, Yujiro Takahashi, Chase Owens and Bad Luck Fale.

Guerrillas of Destiny attacked Bullet Club at the bell.  Fights all around ringside.  Gedo beats down Jado and the actions settles into a normal tag match.  Bullet Club works over Jado.  Jado tags in Tama.   Tama and Tanga hit a double suplex on Fale.   Pace picks up.  Everyone comes into the ring.  Jado hits a Green Killer on Gedo.  Jado locks Gedo in a Cross Face.  Owens hits Jado with a C-Trigger.  Gedo goes for a pin, Jado kicks out. Gedo goes for his brass knuckles.  Jado ducks and locks in a Cross Face again.   Bullet Club comes to make the save.  Tama, Tanga and Tanahashi stop them and lock them in Cross Face locks too.

Gedo taps out.

Tanahashi hugs his teammates.  He brings in special red and white NJPW t-shirts.  They all put on the t-shirts and pose in the ring.    Tama Tonga was smiling and showed a lot of appreciation to Tanahashi.

Shingo Takagi and Tetsuya Naito vs. Aaron Henare and Will Ospreay

On his way to the ring, Ospreay tweets about Renee Paquette, building toward his match against Jon Moxley at Windy City Riot.

United Empire starts fast.  LIJ matches their speed.  Fast paced match.   Naito and Ospreay matched each other move for move.  Ospreay did the same with Takagi.  Ospreay hit a plancha on Naito on the floor.  Henare hit a Rampage Tackle on Takagi.  Two count.   Henare goes for the Streets of Rage, but Takagi chops his way out.  They exchange strikes.  Ospreay comes off the top rope with a lariat on Takagi.  Ospreay gets planted with a pop-up Spinebuster on Ospreay.   LIJ try to double team Henare but Henare takes them down with a double shoulder tackle.   Takagi hits a Pumping Bomber on Henare.  Two count.  Takagi hits Made in Japan on Henare.

Takagi pins Henare.

After the match, Takagi challenges Ospreay for his RevPro British Heavyweight title.   Ospreay waves him off and goes back to the locker room.

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship:  Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori

The champs took an early advantage and showed their teamwork.  Bullet Club was a step behind the champs.  Taguchi made a mistake when Wato gets thrown into his rear end.  Bullet Club gets the advantage with back rakes on Taguchi.    Wato tags in and tries a move off the top rope but ELP hits a dropkick to his chest.  Two count.  Quick tags by Bullet Club as they fin their groove and begin to break down Wato.  Neck wrench by Ishimori on Wato.  They hang Wato on the Tree of Woe.  They hit running dropkicks to his head.  Bullet Club stomps on Wato’s privates. Taguchi tries for the save but Bullet Club chops him to the mat.  ELP and Ishimori grab a leg of Taguchi and pull him crotch first into the face of Wato.   Wato falls off the top rope onto Taguchi.  Funny spot.

Wato fights back and tags Taguchi.  Taguchi throws multiple hip attacks on both ELP and Ishimori.   Taguchi hits a superplex on ELP.  Wato with a kick to the spine and Taguchi with a running hip attack.  ELP kicks out at two.   Taguchi whips ELP in the corner and follows with another hip attack.  Wato comes off the top rope with a double stomp.   Wato goes for the pin and Ishimori makes the save.  Ishimori hits a Codebreaker and ELP follows with a BME.  Wato kicks out at two.   ELP lifts Wato on his shoulders.  Ishimori hits a knee to Wato’s head. ELP spins him in a UFO and sends him crashing to the mat.   Ishimori goes for the pin.  Wato kicks out.  Ishimori hits a lung blower on Wato.  ELP hits Thunderkiss 86.  Taguchi breaks the count.  ELP sets up for Sudden Death.  Wato fights off Ishimori and hits a Flatliner on ELP.   Wato tags in Taguchi.   Taguchi goes for a spring board hip attack but ELP hits an atomic drop.  ELP hits super kick in Taguchi’s rear then sets him up for the CR2.  Taguchi reverses and rolls up ELP for a two count.  Backslide by ELP.  Two count.  Cradle pin by Taguchi.  Two count.   ELP goes for a sunset flip.  As he is trying to take Taguchi down, Taguchi pulls down his tights, exposing his rear end.  He squats down, grabbing ELP’s legs.

Taguchi pins ELP.  

Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi retain the tag team titles

KOPW 2022 Championship:  Toru Yano vs. Taichi, with Miho Abe

This is sumo style match.  No ring ropes.  Both men have to wear a belt around their waist. The winner is whoever throws his opponent out of the ring.

Taichi charges and almost pushes Yano out of the ring.  Yano grabs the referee and low blows Taichi. Taichi hits  a high kick.  Both men are down.   Taichi gets to his feet.  Yano tries to push him out.  Taichi stops.  Yano throws the referee into Taichi.   Yano charges at Taichi who eacapes.  Yano’s charge sends the referee out of the ring and he bumps into the guardrail.   Ouch!   They battle on the ring post both trying to punch each other out of the ring.  They battle back in the middle of the ring.  They grab each other’s belts and try to flip each other.   Taichi twists his body and flips Yano over and out of the ring.  

Taichi is the winner and wins the KOPW 2022 trophy.

Taichi takes the mic and he says now that he has this KOPW trophy, he wants this in a main event position.   He challenges Shingo Takagi to a match for this trophy. 

They ran a video package announcing the G1 Climax 32 tour dates starting in July 16 with the Finals taking place on August 18.

SANADA comes to the ring in street clothes holding his IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title.  SANADA injured his orbital bone in the New Japan Cup against Will Ospreay.

SANADA tells the crowd he does not know when he will be back, but he will have to relinquish the belt, back to the man he won it from, Hiroshi Tanahashi.

Will Ospreay comes to the ring and says how he was screwed out of the World Title and the New Japan Cup.   He says he does not apologize to SANADA and the he should have taken care of himself in the ring.    He demands that SANADA hand him the U.S. Title.   

Hiroshi Tanahashi comes to the ring and tells Ospreay he will face Will Ospreay at Wrestling Dontaku in Fukuoka, Japan for the IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title on May 1.

Tanahashi tells SANADA get better, I will be waiting.

SANADA tells the crowd “see you next time”.

NEVER Openweight Championship:  EVIL vs. Hiromu Takahashi

Hiromu goes for a quick attack but EVIL retreats.   Hiromu whips EVIL into the guardrails.  Hiromu hits two shotgun dropkicks off the ring apron into EVIL’s chest.   Togo distracts Hiromu and EVIL hits a lariat.   EVIL smashes Hiromu into the timekeeper’s table.  EVIL smashes a chair on Hiromu’s head. Hiromu fights back and tries a sunset bomb onto the floor.  Togo tries to interfere but Hiromu throws EVIL into Togo.  Hiromu goes for another shotgun dropkick but EVIL dodges and Hiromu kicks a young lion in the chest.  EVIL drags Hiromu back to the ring.  He hits Darkness Falls.   Only a two count.   Togo jumps in the ring.  Hiromu rolls up EVIL.  No referee.  EVIL pushes Hiromu into the referee, who takes a bump.  They double team Hiromu and go for a Magic Killer.  Hiromu kicks off Togo and switches positions with EVIL.  Togo gets back to his feet and Hiromu picks up EVIL and hits a Magic Killer.     Hiromu hits Everything is Hiromu on Togo.   Hiromu hits a Timebomb on EVIL. Two count.   Hiromu with a Victory Royal.  Two count.   Both men exchange low blows.   Hiromu goes for roll up pins, but only a two count.   EVIL finally hits Everything is Evil.

EVIL pins Hiromu.

Tama Tonga comes to the ring.  EVIL retreats from the ring.  Tama goes after EVIL and they fight in the corner.  Yujiro Takahashi attacks Tama from behind.  Tanga Loa comes and hits Apeshit on Yujiro.  Tama hits a Gun Stun on EVIL.

Tama takes the mic and says “EVIL, you betrayed me, but I never forget.  It’s time for payback, I will get my revenge”

Yujiro and EVIL are assisted from the ring.

IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship:  YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb

CHAOS takes control early using their speed.  United Empire use their power to isolate YOSHI-HASHI from Goto and get the advantage.   YOSHI-HASHI surprises O-Khan with a Headhunter.  Hot tag to Goto.  Goto cleans house.   Pace picks up.  CHAOS double teams O-Khan.  Goto hits a reverse GTR.  Two count on O-Khan.   Goto goes for a GTR on O-Khan but Cobb hits Goto with a lariat.   Goto and O-Khan get to their feet hammering each other with elbows and chops.   Cobb tags in and hits Goto with chops and a dropkick.  Cobb hits a running backdrop on Goto, but he misses a standing moonsault.   Goto tags to YOSHI-HASHI who attacks Cobb’s left knee.  YOSHI-HASHI hits a  neck breaker but only a two count.  O-Khan tags in and they double team YOSHI-HASHI again.  O-Khan traps him in a Sheep Killer.  O-Khan slams YOSHI-HASHI on the mat.  Cobb hits a standing moonsault.  Goto breaks up the count.  

All four men battle in the ring.  YOSHI-HASHI hits a Destroyer on Cobb.  CHAOS hits a Shoto on Cobb.  O-Khan makes the save.  

YOSHI-HASHI trapped Cobb in a knee bar.  Cobb refused to tap out.  O-Khan breaks the hold.  O-Khan plants YOSHI-HASHI with a wristlock Eliminator.   United Empire hit an Imperial Drop on Goto.  O-Khan throws YOSHI-HASHI into the arms of Cobb who hits a Tour of the Islands.

Cobb pins YOSHI-HASHI.

United Empire wins the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.  These are first titles that both O-Khan and Cobb have won in New Japan.

O-Khan takes the mic and badmouths the former champions.  He tells the crowd to hail the new champions.   

Good fun match!  I am happy for both of these wrestlers who have done a lot for New Japan over the past few years.  Well deserved!

IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship:  El Desperado vs. SHO

SHO attacks Desperado before the bell.  Desperado gets thrown into guardrails.   The referee stops SHO from getting a chair.   Desperado attacks and throws SHO into the crowd.   Desperado grabs a fan’s water bottle and pours it on SHO.  (This may be a violation of COVID rules in Japan.)  Back in the ring, Desperado kicks SHO in the head multiple times.  The referee tries to stop him and Desperado sends him flying.   Desperado is pissed.   Desperado goes for a tope suicida and SHO cracks a chair on the head of Desperado.  DAMN!   SHO goes to rip off the mask, instead of a pin.  SHO hits Desperado in the left arm with a chair.  Desperado was trying to get back in the ring. SHO hit him with a running kick and sent Desperado flying into the guardrails.   From one angle it looked like he landed on the metal rail on his ribs.  From another angle, Desperado got his knee up to absorb the impact and flew over the guardrail into the commentary area.  Brutal.

Back in the ring, SHO applies a double wrist lock.  Desperado gets a break in the ropes.   They throw some chops.   Desperado hits a modified suplex take down.  SHO rolls to the floor.   Desperado goes for another tope suicida and hits SHO who hits the guardrail and Japanese announce desk.  Desperado throws SHO in the ring and hits Guitarra de la Muerta.   Two count.  Desperado hits a Frog Splash.  Two count.   SHO goes for a cross arm breaker.   He transitioned into a Snake Bite.  Desperado gets to the ropes.   Desperado is selling the left arm.  They trade strikes and elbows.   SHO hits a spear.   Desperado hits a Spinebuster and then Guitarra de Angel.  Two count.  SHO pushes Desperado into the referee and hits a low blow.  SHO goes for his wrench.  Desperado picks up SHO and hits a Hitodenashi Driver.   Desperado goes for Pinche Loco.  SHO reverses into a Cross Arm Piledriver.  Two count.  As he kicks out, SHO switches and locks Desperado in the Snake Bite.   Desperado fights to get the ropes.  SHO goes for the Shock Arrow.  Desperado reverses out.  SHO hits another low blow.  SHO screams like a madman and picks up Desperado, who connects with a right punch to the jaw.  SHO goes down.  Desperado hits another right hand to the jaw and SHO’s mouth piece goes flying.   Desperado hits Pinche Loco.

Desperado pins SHO.

El Desperado retains the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Championship.

Taiji Ishimori makes his way to the ring.  Ishimori said that Desperado has welcomed all competitors from other promotions but he is putting his name out there first.

The lights go out.   

Francesco Akira appears wearing United Empire colors. He said he will be in the Best of the Super Juniors.   He left the ring.

Desperado picks up the mic.  He tells Ishimori that he lost his title match tonight.  He knows he is a strong challenger.   The last they wrestled Desperado was a champion but he felt like a challenger.  So he accepts the match.

Katsuyori Shibata makes his way to ringside to join the Japanese commentary team.

IWGP World Heavyweight Championship:   Kazuchika Okada vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

They started carefully, both not wanting to make a mistake.   ZSJ used his speed to grab Okada in an arm bar.  Okada reverses out and went for ZSJ’s leg.  ZSJ countered with a leg submission of his own.   Okada gets a break and goes to the floor.   ZSJ trapped Okada in the ropes went for a cross arm breaker on Okada’s right arm.   They rolled to the floor.   ZSJ stomped on Okada’s arm.   Okada gets back in the ring and ZSJ continue to attack the right arm.   Okada hits a flapjack.  ZSJ is holding his ribs.   ZSJ wrenches Okada’s arm with a hammerlock twist.  Okada picks up ZSJ for a neck breaker, but ZSJ tries to lock in an arm submission.  Okada is able to hit the neck breaker but his right arm is hurting.  

ZSJ traps Okada in a Cobra Twist.  Okada reverses out and applies his own Cobra Twist.  ZSJ gets a rope break.   Okada misses a shotgun dropkick and ZSJ traps Okada with a running Shining Triangle submission.   Okada keeps moving to get out of the hold.  ZSJ transitions to a cross arm breaker, but Okada stomps on his head.   ZSJ returns with a dropkick to the head.   

ZSJ takes down Okada and traps both arms in a submission.  Okada gets to the ropes and roll to the floor.   ZSJ throws two punt kicks to the chest.   Okada fires up and hits a tombstone on the floor.   Back in the ring, Okada hits a top rope dropkick.   He follows with a lariat.  Okada goes for a Rainmaker, but ZSJ counters with a Zack Driver.   Okada kicks out at two.   Both men get to their feet and hammer each other with stiff shots.   Okada’s shots are hurting him as much as ZSJ.

ZSJ goes for a Fujiwara arm bar. Okada fights to ropes.  They exchange near falls.   Okada hits a dropkick and goes for another Rainmaker.  ZSJ reverses into a sleeper.  They exchange reversals.   Okada reverses out of a Zack Driver and hits a Landslide.   Okada hits a Rainmaker.

Okada pins Zack Sabre Jr.

Kazuchika Okada retains  the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship.

Okada gets the mic and he thanks the crowd.   He praises Zack Sabre Jr. and his efforts.   He thinks that his next challenger should be Tetsuya Naito.  Naito comes to the ring and accepts the challenge.

They will meet at Wrestling Dontaku on May 1.

Great night of wrestling and New Japan did a lot to wrap up storylines and start new ones.
