IMPACT WRESTLING MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS BLOG

By Mike Johnson on 2022-04-01 22:17:00

Welcome to my Impact Wrestling Multiverse of Madness at Wrestlecon blog!

David Tees will be handline the play by play, but I'll be providing running thoughts all night!

Tom Hanifan and Matthew Rehwoldt will be the announcing team.

The show is absolutely sold out and is the largest crowd of any show this weekend at Wrestlecon.

The X-Division Ultimate X is first.  Holy hell, this is insane stuff.  Just lots of big bumps and crazy sequences.   Jordynne Grace looked like a monster here, just beating the hell out of the male competitors.  Blake hit a dive off the girders to the floor on everyone.  Lots of big bumps off the cables.  In the end, Grace pulled herself across the cables but met Miguel, who knocked her off and took the belt to retain.  Absolutely batsh*t insanity.  An incredible opening.  The X-Division of late has really been killing it and this was a prime example of that.

Second was The Aldis family against the Cardonas.  The crowd has been super into everything tonight.  Really damn enjoyable back and forth match.  The Cardonas play such great sleazebags.   This played really well across the board from the personalities to the action to the crowd responses.

Next up is Alex Shelley vs. Speedball Mike Bailey.  The crowd was actually booing Shelley a bit.  Bailey's body is a mess from all the abuse he's taken this weekend.  Shelley was playing the subtle, bullying veteran heel.  He gained control over Bailed and worked him over for some time.  Bailey began firing back and man, Shelley was drilling him hard, just laying the shots in. Bailey finally nailed a kick and went all nuts with the karate offense.  Shelley took him back down and locked in a crossface but Bailey got to the ropes.  This has been a master class in great wrestling from Shelley.  Shelley almost killed the man with a DDT on the apron.  He went for a dive but Bailey got out of the way and then hit a springboard moonsault to the floor that looked insane.  The height was nuts.  They continued on with some great action.  Like, ridiculously great near falls.  Bailey missed the shooting star and crashed on his knees.  He's going to be walking like Great Muta in no time.  Bailey finally scored the pin after using Shelley's momentum coming off the ropes into a package.

The Four Way Knockouts bout was next.  Tasha Steelz is so ridiculously great right now.  Odd no Kaleb with a K with the Influence.  Solid stuff all around before Giselle Shaw is pinned with a double skull crushing finale.  Super solid.

Eddie Edwards vs. Tomohiro Ishii was physical from the start with lots of hard hitting shots and some brawling on the floor.    Ishii began dropping Edwards on his head.  Eddie came back with a Blue Thunder Bomb.  Lots of big moves.  Ishii looked like he nearly murdered Edwards with a big headbutt.  This was a real war with a pretty shocking ending as Ishii pinned Edwards with a brainbuster.  This seems pretty quick for Edwards to get pinned after his turn.

Next up was Moose & PCO vs. Jonah & Josh Alexander.  There was a damn impressive sequence where Moose kept running the ropes and shoulderblocking Jonah, who wouldn't budge.  It blows my mind WWE released Jonah.  Josh Alexander tried to get his hands on Moose and chased him around the ring but was outsmarted and ran right into PCO.  Alexander was beaten down for a long time.  This turned into one hell of a war.  Moose came off insanely well, just like a stellar athlete and badass while Jonah looked like a top star.

Deonna Purrazzo's mystery opponent was AAA star Faby Apache.  They had a nice back and forth match.  Purrazzo is really great at all the small nuances.  Apache looked credible as the challenger and did a nice job getting the crowd involved with her yelling.  Purrazzo finally used the armbar for the submission.  Nice surprise seeing Apache here.  Purrazzo was cutting a promo on Mercedes Martinez being the interim ROH Champion when out came Taya Valkyrie.  She told Purrazzo not to worry about the ROH title but the AAA title instead.  She said she'll see Purrazzo at Rebellion.

Jay White vs. Chris Sabin was next and White apparently decided he wanted to get the reputation for chopping Sabin into pieces because this was a PHYSICAL beating.  Sabin was worked over for a long time before making a comeback.  Sabin's work was great here.  He built some nice momentum before being CHOPPED DOWN AGAIN.  Sabin's chest looked like raw meat.  He finally fired back and chopped the hell out of White and nailed a big lariat.  He rolled up White and scored the pin with the place losing ther mind for this.  Steve Maclin attacked Sabin but White pulled him off so he could attack Sabin himself.  He and Maclin went nose to nose.   White lowblowed Maclin.

The Briscoes vs. The Good Brothers is the main event.  This was great all the way through until the finish, which saw Chris Bey and Jay White interfere to set up Mark taking the Magic Killer and being pinned.  It just made the show end a little flat.  There was a lot of great wrestling all the way through.  The Briscoes took the mic and said that they promised to be back in Impact Wrestling because what happened tonight was BS and they were going to take care of it.
