WWE presents Night One of WrestleMania Saturday night. Here's our take on what will happen.
WWE Smackdown Women's Champion Charlotte Flair vs. Ronda Rousey.
Dave: Given how Charlotte has been losing her mind of late it sets Ronda up to take the victory, and the Title. I expect them to have a great match.
Mike: Flair is one of the best talents in the world. There's no way she doesn't put in the work and carry Ronda to something as special as she can here. I am expecting Rousey to win the title.
Richard: I have not been a fan of the build for this match one bit. Ronda’s promos are a run on sentence from hell and Charlotte’s promos are the same as the last five years. I hope they have chemistry when it comes to the wrestling. Do you put the title on Ronda to make up for her loss in New Jersey a few years ago or does Charlotte retain? They can take the title off Charlotte and let Ronda hold it until they have their next stadium PPV in Vegas to do the rematch.
WWE Raw Women's Champion Becky Lynch vs. Bianca Belair.
Dave: I also expect this to be a great match as well. I really think it's important for Belair to get the win here. A loss would stunt the growth of her character and WWE has done that too often, to too many. I hope that they don't make the same mistake here.
Mike: This should be one of the best things on either night. This should be about cementing Bianca as a top tier star, something they looked to have done last year and then forgot by Summerslam. Bianca has to win.
Richard: Unless Bianca wins in 26 seconds to get back for what happened at SummerSlam, this match should be one of the longer of the two nights. Bianca was on top of the world last year at Wrestlemania, but now she feels like she lost all momentum since SummerSlam and she is in this match because who else on Raw can be justified as a challenger for Becky? Bianca should win this match because if she doesn’t, does she deserve another shot at the title? For some reason I think Becky retains.
WWE Hall of Famer Steve Austin on the Kevin Owens Show.
Dave: We all know what this is going to be, Austin destroys KO. The question is will it be straightforward Austin carnage, or will they try and get cute like they did when they did that horrible segment with Austin and The Coach. I hope they go with the former. I don't like KO being fed to the wolves but since that is what it's going to be, they might as well do it right. There isn't much intrigue here for me, other than whether people like Booker T, JBL, Shawn Michaels (and maybe even Undertaker) come down and join the party to pay KO back for all of the comments that he has made about Texas.
Mike: Five minute brawl. Stunner, Owens lays there and gets a beer bath.
Richard: It sucks that Owens is not wrestling on the show but he does the best job of the thousands of WWE wrestlers with talk show segments. I liked Owens’ parody of Austin in Chicago. We know what is going to happen but make everything leading up to the kick to the midsection, stunner, and beer bash entertaining instead of ‘get to the stunner already.’ I think if you add the other Texas veterans, it takes away from the Owens/Austin interaction so we will get everyone from Texas who has ever been in the WWE to join in.
The Miz & Logan Paul vs. The Mysterios.
Dave: This has the feel of Paul turns on Miz, going back to the Cleveland stuff, and the Mysterios get the win.
Mike: Miz is taking that pinfall. He has to be.
Richard: At least Miz gets to team with the celebrity this year but I think he will have the same result and get pinned by the Son of 619, Dominik (you sure it isn’t Gunther) Mysterio. Plenty of shenanigans will occur in this match.
Drew McIntyre vs. Happy Corbin.
Dave: There is no world in which Happy should go home happy here. None. Nil.
Mike: Claymore, 1-2-3, 30 SECONDS. Please. End this.
Richard: I will be happy when Drew gets to move on from this feud. Moss will get fed up with Corbin not laughing at his ‘jokes’ and he will turn on Corbin.
WWE Smackdown Tag Team Champions The Usos vs. Shinsuke Nakamura & Rick Boogs.
Dave: The Usos having the gold in The Bloodline is important to the characters right now. For that reason alone, they should retain.
Mike: This could be fun on paper but Nakamura and Boogs haven't had momentum in some time. I don't see The Usos losing here.
Richard: If an announcer does not dance on the announce table like an idiot, do Boogs and Nakamura make an entrance? I guess since Los Lotharios are in the Intercontinental Match on Wrestlemania Prevenge on Friday night and the Viking Raiders are trying to figure out what happened to them on Monday, this was the only option available? Usos should win.
New Day's Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods vs. Sheamus & Ridge Holland.
Dave: Even if Big E's injury hadn't happened, I think this would be a "make the crowd happy" moment. Since it did happen, it's definitely become about having a big New Day win.
Mike: It has to be New Day getting revenge for Big E.
Richard: It is a shame that Big E could not be part of a six man tag match with the latest ‘You had an identity in another part of WWE but who cares about that’ person. New Day wins and Holland takes the pin after Up Up Down Down.
Seth Rollins vs. Vince McMahon's handpicked Mystery Opponent.
Dave: The two most likely people are Cody Rhodes and Shane McMahon. I hope it's not the latter, since it's supposed to be in the 80s in Dallas and that means extra sweat. If it's Cody, I guess that they can see it's a surprise debut but to me, if it's going to be him I would have promoted it if I thought he means something to the company. If it is Cody, he should go over. For one thing, Seth can say that he didn't have time to prepare, so they could then feud. But more importantly if they bring him in and he loses, well that doesn't make me think they have big plans for him.
Mike: The plan at one point was 100% Cody and I don't believe they will change from that, but it's always possible. If it is Cody, he should win. It makes zero sense to debut him and not have him win. Unless they want to shock everyone with a Gable Steveson debut, I can't even think of another person to put in the Seth match.
Richard: They almost did what I suggested to give us this match on Raw and it would appear that it a member of Legacy who will face Seth. Anything else will be a major letdown, especially if it is the son of the son of a promoter. Shane McMahon’s sweat would rain on the parade of the thousands of fans in the stadium. If it is Cody, he has to win. Seth does not need to win the match and it could send Seth into a bigger mental breakdown that he gets a tattoo on an inconvenient body part.
