COMPLETE AAA LUCHA LIBRE INVADES WRESTLECON BLOG

By Mike Johnson on 2022-03-31 18:18:00

Welcome to my live, ongoing AAA Invades Wrestlecon blog from Dallas, Texas!

David Tees will be handling play by play, so I'll be giving ongoing thoughts.

There was a mass of people in the room before the bell but most appear to have gone to the signing session early.

Hugo Savinovich and Carlos Cabrera welcomed everyone to the show.  Hugo said we'd see authentic lucha libre tonight.

Ryan King & Christi Jaynes vs. The Natural Classics (billed from Australia) is our opening contest.  This was an unannounced bout.  Jaynes is local from Texas.    Authentic lucha!  The Classics controlled King for some time.  Jaynes avoided a moonsault from the top to the floor and then hit one of her own.  King hit a springboard cutter.  The Classics nailed a double-team backstabber for the pin.  It was OK.  Jaynes has a likable charisma and has improved quite a bit.

Next up is Taya & Niño Hamburguesa & Microman (tecnicos) vs. Rey Escorpion & Mini Abismo Negro & La Hiedra (rudos).  Big pop for Microman.  They added a wrinkle - LUMBERJACKS WITH STRAPS.  Microman started out with Negro.  Micro did some cool lucha spots playing off his small stature.  He knocked Negro to the floor and teased a dive but the Lumberjacks started lashing him and Negro charged back in.  That was funny.

Hiedra and Taya faced off.  Hiedra was knocked to the floor.  The Lumberjacks chased her up and down the aisle and around the ring.   The crowd popped for that.  The heels were able to isolate Microman and abuse him.  Niño Hamburguesa, who is a big burly dude, made the save to a big pop.  He had some really fun, gregarious charisma.

Escorpion nailed Taya with a package piledriver, which was insane.

The final sequence was a series of fun reversals with Microman and Negro with Microman finally trapping him for the pin.      This was a lot of fun, just zany, sometimes ridiculous stuff that makes pro wrestling FUN.

Sam Adonis & Gringo Loco & Puma King came out to try and bully Microman but he cleaned house, which was pretty entertaining.  They finally overwhelmed him and locked him in a trash can, I guess to carry him over to MLW?

The next bout is for the NWA Tag Team Championship with NWA Tag Team Champions La Rebellion - Mecha Wolf & Bestia 666 with Damian 666  vs. Aero Star & Drago.  The champs looked strong early on, doubleteaming Aero Star.  Drago and Aero Star made a comeback, hitting a double dive.  Aero Star hit some cool moves including a corkscrew off the ropes into Bestia.  Damian 666 sprewed mist at Drago but was dropkicked off the apron.  The Champs got the pin with a double-team backcracker.

A traditional trios match was next, featuring Octagon Jr. & Aramis & Mr. Iguana vs. Arez &  Abismo Negro Jr. & Fabi Apache - Trios Match.

This was a LOT of fun.  It was great to see Apache live as it's not like she works a lot in the States Octagon Jr. was the star of the match with lots of big spots but everyone was great here.  Mr. Iguana's gimmick doing lucha spots with the iguana puppet was a lot of fun.  This was just nonstop craziness with some fun dives and near falls.  To me, this was the best thing on the show thus far.

Another trios bout continued with Pagano & Drago Kid & Jack Cartwheel (tecnicos) vs. Sam Adonis & Gringo Loco & Puma King (rudos) in a No DQ match.

Drago Kid is absolutely insanely talented and is going to be such a big lucha star one day.  His timing and his aerial ability echoed young Rey Mysterio in the mid-1990s.  Gringo Loco was an amazing base for him too.  Cartwheel and Pagano had some fun exchanges.  Adonis was pretty funny with some sardonic responses to what was going on in the ring.  They went into an insane series of dives.    Puma King almost wiped out Adonis with a big tope con hilo.  Just a ridiculous series of spots and near falls.  Puma drilled Kid with a chair.  Cartwheel almost missed a big shooting star press.  Kid nailed a crazy corkscrew springboard dive to the floor.    Puma King finally pinned .  Adonis got booed waving the American flag.

Next up was AAA Cruiserweight Champion Laredo Kid vs. Bandido vs. Flamita

As you might imagine, this was all big spots you could hope for.  Laredo Kid has gotten so INSANELY good.  Flamita hit a top rope 450 splash on his opponents, who were stacked atop of each other.  Lots of multi-man submissions.  Lots of near falls.  Laredo scored the pinfall with a top rope Spanish Fly on Flamita for the pin.  Fun stuff, but a little shorter than I expected.

Big AAA chant after the match.  The first of the night.

The main event featured Psycho Clown vs. Black Taurus.  This was a short but fun brawl with a lot of fighting before Clown put Taurus through a table for the pinfall.  Sam Adonis & Gringo Loco & Puma King attacked Psycho Clown.  Out came Jeff and Karen Jarrett.   Jeff Jarrett said he was the brains and the money behind it all and the King and Queen are back in AAA.  They beat down Clown and removed his mask.    So, they ran a big angle that will obviously build to Jarrett vs. Clown down the line.

The crowd chanted for Psycho Clown as he struggled to recover.  He took the mic, hiding his face with a U.S. flag and told the audience, in English, that he loved the crowd every tonight and he hopes to see them soon.  He said Mexico and the U.S. are brothers and he'd loved to stay here all night with the fans.  He thanked everyone for coming.  He placed his mask back on and danced, bringing some kids into the ring.
