By James Kurokawa on 2022-03-27 08:33:00

3/27 New Japan Cup Final results From Osaka Japan:

BUSHI vs. Kosei Fujita

BUSHI forces Fujita to tap out to a Boston Crab.

Master Wato, Ryusuke Taguchi, Jado, Tanga Loa and Tama Tonga vs. Bad Luck Fale, Chase Owens, Gedo, El Phantasmo and Taiji Ishimori

Big brawl to start the match.  It settled into a competitive match.  Jado caught Gedo in the Operation Jado Killer.  Owens hit Jado with a C-Trigger, knocking him silly.  Owens puts Gedo on top of Jado.

Gedo pins Jado.

It will be interesting to see how this Bullet Club angle will continue.   Will it continue in the United States with Jay White?  If G.O.D.  returns home to Florida, how will the angle continue in Japan?

YOH, Tomohiro Ishii and Toru Tano vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru, Minoru Suzuki and Taichi

Taichi pins YOH after a Yokozuna Elbow.

After the match, Taichi hits Yano with a Yokozuna Elbow.   Yano sold it like he was knocked out.  They are teasing a future match between the two.  Ishii and Suzuki continue to fight with each other.   Referees had to come to the ring to separate both men.   Ishii and Suzuki escaped and attacked each other again.  Complete chaos.

Both Ishii and Suzuki will be in Texas for the Lonestar Shootout event.

TAKA Michinoku and El Desperado vs. SHO and Yujiro Takahashi

SHO attacks Desperado and TAKA from behind as they come to the ring.  SHO hits them with a wrench.  Yujiro drags TAKA to the ring and hits Big Juice.  SHO locks the Snake Bite on TAKA.

TAKA taps out.

SHO attacks Desperado after the match.  He rips off the mask of Desperado.  The crowd reacts in anger.   SHO hits a Shock Arrow on Desperado.   The crowd is not supposed to react out loud, but they were pissed.

They have not announced a title match between El Desperado and SHO, but I would expect it to be soon, either for Wrestling Dontaku or the Hyper Battle tour in April.

Tomoaki Honma, Togi Makabe, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Aaron Henare, Great O-Khan, Jeff Cobb and Will Ospreay

United Empire attacks at the bell.   Wild match.   United Empire moves with speed like Los Ingobernales de Japon.

Cobb pins Honma after a Tour of the Islands.

O-Khan hits an Eliminator on Goto.  Cobb drops YOSHI-HASHI.   The tag champions are left lying on their backs.    Ospreay and Henare fight off Honma and Makabe.   O-Khan calls the tag champs “peasants” and challenges them for the IWGP Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

Shingo Takagi and Hiromu Takahashi vs. EVIL and Dick Togo

Hiromu comes to the ring looking pissed off.  No fun and games tonight.

Hiromu goes to meet EVIL on the entryway and hits a shotgun dropkick.  They battle on the floor and Hiromu gets thrown into the guardrails and smashes the timekeeper’s table.   Togo goes for his choke wire.  Takagi stops him.  EVIL hits a low blow on Takagi.   They double team Hiromu until he throws EVIL into the turnbuckle.   Hiromu hits Everything is Hiromu on Togo.

Hiromu pins Togo.

Hiromu tells EVIL that he beat him over and over.  He wants EVIL to tell the matchmakers that he wants EVIL to tell them to defend the NEVER Openweight title against Hiromu.  He has nothing to prove.  EVIL looks pissed and embarrassed.

Tiger Mask, Satoshi Kojima, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Tatsumi Fujinami, El Lindaman, T-Hawk and CIMA

This match was made in the last 24 hours.  Fujinami is a surprise.    Tiger Mask was wearing an original Sayama mask.

Fujinami demanded to start against Okada.   They grappled and Okada reverses out of a head scissors.  They tag out to Tiger Mask and CIMA.  The pace picks up.   Good fast paced match.  Fujinami ate a tope con hilo from Tiger Mask on the floor.  Good God!

Okada hit a Landslide and a Rainmaker on T-Hawk.

Okada pins T-Hawk.

Good fun match.    Fujinami took some big bumps.  That is a tough dude.  The GLEAT wrestlers were awesome.  T-Hawk looks and acts like a superstar.   He matched up well with Okada and they had a great sequence in this match.  Hopefully, they will be around as the year progresses.

New Japan Cup 2022 Final:

Tetsuya Naito vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

They trade submissions and grappling moves.   ZSJ gets the advantage with a double stomp on Naito’s knees.  ZSJ begins his submission attack on his left leg.  Naito starts his Lucha attacks moving with speed.  Naito hits a neck breaker and a locks in a cravat.  ZSJ counters with a neck twist.  ZSJ is favoring his ribs.   Naito hits a DDT and Esperanza.  They trade near falls.  Naito hits Valencia.  Two count.  Naito with Destino.  Two count.  ZSJ with a Zack Driver.  Two count.  Naito hammers ZSJ in the neck with elbows.   ZSJ fights back with European uppercuts.   ZSJ hits a massive Punt Kick.  Two count. ZSJ hits a tornado DDT then immediately hits another Zack Driver.

ZSJ pins Naito.

Zack Sabre Jr. wins the New Japan Cup 2022!

Great match!   Both men were sharp in this match.  Zack rarely uses the Zack Driver but it worked for him tonight.

Zack tells Naito “Gracias”.   He tells the audience that he will soon be the best wrestler in the world, because he will be the next IWGP World Heavyweight Champion.  He hugs Taichi who takes his photo at ringside.

In the interview area, Zack thanks Taichi and tells him he is family.   He says that this victory means a lot more, especially during the pandemic.    He says when he got hit with Valencia, he blacked out.  He said he talked to George Michael who told him to use the Zack Driver.  He dedicated his win to George Michael.

Wresting Dontaku 2022 will be the next big event for New Japan on May 1.

The Best of Super Juniors will also return to its normal spot of the year in May.
