THE ROCK WANTS TO WRESTLE - YOUNG ROCK SEASON 2, EPISODE 2 RECAP

By Eric Denton on 2022-03-23 08:11:00

Young Rock S2, E2 - “Seven Bucks”

“Unprecedented with Randall Park” is at the Johnson Family Ranch 12 days before the election.

Dwayne’s campaign assistant Sandy makes him aware a man in St.Paul MN went on local television and accused Johnson of trying to kill him. Rock laughs and says he wants to feed his horses with Randall. He starts to tell the story about his football career ending.

Tampa 1995 - Rocky Johnson is out of wrestling and driving a van for Circuit City. Rocky was supposed to transport broken A/V equipment from the stores to the repair shop but he was selling them on the side and paying someone in inventory a cut to make them disappear. Ata was selling vacation packages over the phone while sending care packages to Dewey in Calgary.

Dewey is struggling on the practice squad. And is getting worried about getting cut from the team. He calls Dany to fill her in on his issues in Canada. He’s made friends with defensive lineman Kenny Walker (the first deaf player in the CFL). They have a mutual love for fishing and wrestling. Dwayne says they go on a fishing trip that will change his life.

Rocky, Ata & Lia are trying to watch the OJ Simpson trial and Ata learns her packages to Dewey keep getting sent back.

Dewey tells Kenny about fishing with Andre The Giant. Kenny asks him if he ever thinks about wrestling. Dewey breaks Kenny’s fishing rod and feels terrible. Kenny tells Dewey “it’s just a thing”. It gives him a new perspective and he starts practicing better.  Dewey saves money eating the starting squads food and selling the comp tickets he gets. Jeff Garcia (former SF 49er QB) and other teammates invite Dewey out on the town, just as he is about to leave the assistant coach comes up behind him and gives him the dreaded “pinch” on the arm that means he’s going to be told he’s being released.

Coach Buono tells him getting cut has nothing to do with his effort or how much they like him. Coach praises his work ethic and says it will pay off for him.

Randall asks Dwayne if this was when he knew he would become a wrestler? He says not quite, but he just knew he wasn’t going to get paid to play football any longer.

Dewey is back in Florida and goes to Dany’s place to talk about his future. He tells her he’s tired of waiting by the phone hoping something will come along for him. Dewey thinks he should get into wrestling but is concerned he won’t make any money right away. She tells him not to worry about it and go for it.

Rock tells Randall he didn’t tell anyone else he wanted to wrestle for a few more months.

Rocky gets a call from Dewey asking to be picked up in Miami. Rocky drives four hours to get him. They head back to Tampa. Dewey tells Rocky a version of why he got cut. Rocky says they’re low on fuel and asks Dewey if he has any money. He pulls out seven bucks, actually eight but he loses one after it gets blown out of the car window.

Rock tells Randall he’s still with Dany but she is working 60 hours a week. He still hasn’t told anyone he wants to wrestle and then he got a call back from the Stampeders.

Dwayne’s campaign team interrupts the conversation informing him “the man from Minnesota” (Sean Astin) has been making the media rounds saying he was a student at Dewey’s school in Hawaii and that things didn’t add up with him. Rock watches the video and says “I know who this is”.

“Young Rock” airs Tuesdays on NBC and On Demand the next day.
