SABRE JR. VS. OSPREAY, HIROMU VS. SHINGO: 3/21 NEW JAPAN CUP QUARTER-FINALS RESULTS FROM NAGOKA, JAPAN

The SemiFinals are set, 3/21/22 Results from the Quarterfinals of the New Japan Cup 2022 from Nagaoka, Japan:

Kevin Kelly mentions that the crowds have been returning over these last two nights in Nagaoka.

Kosei Fujita, Ryohei Oiwa and Togi Makabe vs. Yuto Nakashima, Tiger Mask and Satoshi Kojima

Kojima pins Oiwa after a Koji Cutter.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Tomohiro Ishii and Toru Yano vs. DOUKI, Minoru Suzuki and Taichi

Tanahashi pins DOUKI after a High Fly Flow.

Ishii and Suzuki continue to fight  all the way to the locker room.

Master Wato, Ryusuke Taguchi, Jado, Tama  Tonga and Tanga Loa vs. El Phantasmo, Taiji Ishimori, Gedo, Bad Luck Fale and Chase Owens

Ishimori blasts Taguchi with the IWGP Jr Title belt.  ELP hits a CR2 on Taguchi.

ELP pins Taguchi.

Bullet Club beats up G.O.D. and Taguchi and Wato.   Tanahashi makes the save.   Bullet Club retreats quickly.  Tanahashi helps up all of them. Kevin Kelly points out the historical significance of Tanahashi coming to help Tama Tonga, Tanga Loa and Jado.

TAKA Michinoku, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado vs. Yujiro Takahashi, SHO and EVIL

Yujiro pins TAKA after hitting Big Juice.

Tomoaki Honma, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. Aaron Henare, Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb

Cobb pins Honma after a Tour of the Islands

Cobb and YOSHI-HASHI have words after the match.  Perhaps a Tag Title shot for United Empire is coming.

YOH and Kazuchika Okada vs. BUSHI and Tetsuya Naito

YOH rolls up BUSHI with a 5 star Clutch and gets a pin.

New Japan Cup 2022 Quarterfinal matches:

Shingo Takagi vs. Hiromu Takahashi

Match begins fast with Hiromu on the attack.   They take it to the floor and Takagi uses his power to take control.  Hiromu gets a DDT on the floor and bounces off the guardrails.  Back in the ring, Hiromu fights back with strikes.  He uses his speed to hit Takagi.  They both move quickly that it is hard to recap.   Hiromu powerbombs Takagi off the apron to the floor.  Takagi comes back to hammer Hiromu with lariats.    Takagi hits a powerbomb of his own and locks Hiromu in an STF.   Takagi goes for a pin.  Two count.   They trade strikes.  Takagi hits a Pumping Bomber and Made in Japan.  Hiromu kicks out at two.   Crazy.   Hiromu hits a Destroyer.   Two count.   Hiromu hits Time Bomb.  Takagi kicks out.    Takagi hits a GTR and a Pumping Bomber.   Hiromu kicks out.   Takagi punches Hiromu then hits Last of the Dragon.

Takagi pins Hiromu.

Shingo Takagi moves into the Semifinal Round.

What a brutal fight.   This was great.   Hiromu is a fighter and deserves praise for his fighting spirit.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Will Ospreay

United Empire is at ringside.

They start fast.  Good chain wrestling.    

Go watch this match.  This was great stuff.  

Ospreay tweaked his knee.   ZSJ kept going after the knee.   Ospreay went for Storm Breaker.  ZSJ reversed out.  He took down Ospreay by his injured leg.  ZSJ trapped the injured leg, with his legs and grabbed Ospreay in a sleeper, he pulled back with all the pressure on Ospreay’s leg.

Ospreay tapped out.

Ospreay and the United Empire argued that he did not tap out but the referee ruled it a final decision.

Zack Sabre Jr.  moves to the Semifinals to face Shingo Takagi.

Damn this main event was good.  If you are reading this, please check it out.

Zack Sabre Jr. said this was the toughest match he and Ospreay ever had.  He said Ospreay hit him so hard that he may have blacked out.

New Japan Cup Semifinals Predictions:

Kazuchika Okada vs. Tetsuya Naito:  We have seen this match before, only a month ago.   I am predicting Tetsuya Naito to get a win here.  The title is not on the line so Okada won’t be hurt by a loss.

Zack Sabre Jr. vs. Shingo Takagi:  This is another match we have seen before.   ZSJ has to stick to a submission game.  He cannot out strike Takagi.  Ospreay hurt ZSJ tonight with his strikes and power moves, which Takagi will have.   ZSJ beat Takagi by submission in the G1 Climax.   ZSJ will win if he sticks to his submission strategy.

The New Japan Cup 2022 will conclude with the Semifinals on Saturday March 26 and the Finals on Sunday March 27, both from Osaka-Jo Hall in Osaka Japan.
