OFFICIAL TRAILER RELEASED FOR YOUNG ROCK SEASON TWO

By Mike Johnson & Paul Jordan on 2022-03-10 16:42:00

NBC released the following trailer for the second season of Young Rock:

The second season premiere of Young Rock is titled Unprecedented Fatherhood and will air on 3/15 on NBC.

The plot of the episode: "As the 2032 election nears, Dwayne reflects on what it means to be a father. In 1984, little Dewey vies for his father’s attention after Rocky becomes the WWF tag team champ."

The second season will feature a number of professional wrestling personalities that to date, have not been seen on the comedy series as it continues to dive into stories from The Rock's childhood, teenaged and college years.  The first season ended on a cliffhanger where the world was about to learn whether the "modern day" Rock was about to become President of the United States, so they will continue that story.

As previously reported on PWInsider.com, the series will feature at least one episode set in Memphis territory in the 1980s and we are also told to expect lots of teases for the WWF Attitude Era with the idea that could be a regularly featured time period if and when the series is renewed for season three by NBC.

For the 1980s Memphis era, Jerry Lawler, The Great Kabuki, Superstar Bill Dundee, Tommy Rich and a young Bam Bam Bigelow (as Crusher Yurkov) were being cast, so at least some of these names will appear.

A number of 1990s pro wrestling personalities were cast for season two, including Triple H, The Undertaker, Mick Foley, Downtown Bruno Lauer (aka Harley Whippleman), The Brooklyn Brawler,  and even Mantaur.  Yes, Mantaur.

The series was also seeking to cast The Rock's grandfather WWE Hall of Famer "High Chief" Peter Maivia several months back.  In the casting the for Maivia, he is described as being in his 30s and seen in the 1970s, where he is the founder of Polynesian Pro Wrestling in Hawaii.  He is described as "standing up" for another wrestler in the casting.  While Maivia has been referred to often in the series, if he appears in season two, it would be the first time he actually appears

WWF 1980s personalities Gene Okerlund, Big John Studd, Freddie Blassie, Nikolai Volfoff and Mr. Fuji, among others were also being cast by the series.  Young Rock was also seeking to re-cast several wrestlers from the first season, including Roddy Piper and Ric Flair.   Flair was formerly played by WWE NXT star Grayson Waller when he was living in Australia but now that he's in the United States full-time working for WWE, he was not available going forward.

Among the pro wrestling personalities who were portrayed regularly in Young Rock's season one were Andre the Giant, The Iron Sheik, Afa, Sika, Rocky Johnson, Junkyard Dog and Randy Savage.    Andre the Giant has been bumped up to a series regular in season two.
