New Japan Cup 2022 Results From Fukushima, Japan:

 Kosei Fujita vs. Yuji Nagata

Nagata forces Fujita to tap out to a cross face.

School was in session for Fujita, who almost got his arm ripped out.

Chase Owens, El Phantasmo and Gedo vs. Togi Makabe, Tiger Mask and Tomoaki Honma

Owens hits Honma with a Package Piledriver, then ELP hits him with a Thunderkiss 86.

ELP pins Honma.

Bullet Club teases dissension.   Owens asked Gedo who made the call to attack G.O.D.  Gedo said it was Jay White’s decision.   They did the Too Sweet Salute and all seemed OK.  However, Chase Owens will face Jado in the New Japan Cup.

Hiroshi Tanahashi, Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Yujiro Takahashi, SHO and EVIL, with Dick Togo

Lots of shenanigans from House of Torture.

Tanahashi fights back with a low blow on Yujiro, who he rolls up for a school boy pin.

Tanahashi, Wato and Taguchi get a win, which could put them in line for a title match for the NEVER Openweight 6-man Tag Championship.

Hiromu Takahashi, Shingo Takagi , Tetsuya Naito  and SANADA vs. Kazuchika Okada, Tomohiro Ishii, YOH and Toru Yano

Wild match.  Shingo and Ishii tried to beat the hell out of each other.

SANADA traps YOH in Skull End.  YOH taps out.

Ishii and Shingo continue to fight after the match.   They will meet in a First Round match tomorrow.

Taiji Ishimori and Bad Luck Fale vs. Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb

Kota Ibushi was slotted to face O-Khan in this spot for the New Japan Cup but Ibushi is still recovering from injury.

Fale was able to match power with Cobb and O-Khan.  Ishimori kicks a low blow on O-Khan and Fale hits a Hand Grenade.

Fale pins O-Khan.

Solid match.   More teasing of the iaaues between Bullet Club members.

New Japan Cup 2022 Matches:

Yuto Nakashima vs. Aaron Henare

Both men began slugging it out.  Lots of  punches, chops and kicks.

Henare hits a super kick and a spear.

Henare pins Nakashima.

Aaron Henare goes to the next Round to face SANADA.

Ryohei Oiwa vs. Zack Sabre Jr.

ZSJ forces Oiwa to tap out to an ankle submission.

Zack Sabre Jr. will go to Round 2 and face DOUKI.

Good match.  It went 10+ minutes, much longer than I expected.  I expected a submission within 5 minutes.  Oiwa held his own against ZSJ.

BUSHI vs. Will Ospreay

Both men bumped hard for each other. Brutal bumps and high spots into the guardrails.  BUSHI tricked Ospreay into hitting an OsCutter on the referee.   A second referee came to the ring.  BUSHI hits an MX on the second referee by mistake.   A third referee comes to the ring.   BUSHI sprays black mist into the third referee’s face.  A fourth referee comes.   They reverse out of each other’s moves.

Ospreay hits the Hidden Blade and pins BUSHI.

Will Ospreay moves to Round 2 to face El Phantasmo.

Good match.  Both men knew each other well so their referee mishaps were funny and their bumps were insane and cool.

Ospreay tells the crowd that he promises to win back to back New Japan Cups.
