WWE scheduled the Elimination Chamber PPV at the same time that Mike Epsenhart and I record the FMB, so blogging was out for me today. But, it doesn’t mean I don’t have some thoughts on today’s show so here that are. As always, the talent all worked hard. They are not the issue. The stories? Yep, they are the issue.
Roman Reigns vs. Bill Goldberg was as good as anyone could have reasonably expected it to be. Goldberg gives all he has when he is out there and he did again today. I give him credit. Given that there was no way that Goldberg was going to win they did all that they could here.
It’s no secret I am not a fan of WWE going to Saudi Arabia. I loathe the way that the country treats women and that was on full display with the way that the six ladies had to cover up here. We just saw Bill Goldberg basically in his underwear. That’s OK. But women? Nope, can’t see anything but faces, hands and feet. It’s ridiculous. … I expected Bianca to get the win here and she did. She looked good in the match. … It was nice to see Alexa Bliss back and firing on all cylinders as well. She put in a strong performance. … Rhea got revenge on Nikki, again, then lost. I have no idea why Vince can’t see she is a star and book her accordingly. … I feel bad for Liv Morgan. Corey Graves said something along the lines of if she doesn’t win, he doesn’t know what’s next for her, implying she would be a loser. Then, she lost. Great job of burying her.
Charlotte/Sonya vs. Naomi/Ronda was totally paint by numbers. Ronda wearing the judo outfit was cool. Her having her arm tied and still winning? Not so much.
Drew McIntyre vs. Flapjack, er Madcap Moss was one of the things I hate about WWE. They took a ton of punishment and I give them a lot of credit for that. But WWE put them in a match that was just there to be there and they took the abuse for nothing. … Happy Corbin interfered liberally so when Flapjack still couldn’t win, it makes him look like a loser. … Drew deserves so much better than this from WWE.
Becky Lynch vs. Lita was really good and I enjoyed it a lot. I knew Lita wouldn’t win but it was nice to see her out there, kicking ass. If she wants to wrestle some more, WWE should use her in the special attraction type fashion.
The Usos and The Viking Raiders never happened.
Finally, the men’s Chamber. It was bizarre. They have Bobby Lashley get “hurt” from a spot that was way less painful than the F5 Austin Theory took from the top of the pod. So Lashley is the guy who didn’t win the belt on his own, then couldn’t even make it into the match to defend it. Brilliant booking. … Brock was, as usual, the star of the show. He destroyed everyone that got in his way, and looked to have fun doing it. Once Lashley was out, there was no doubt how it will end. So, we have Champ vs. Champ at Mania. WWE is so devoid of other top storyline and made talent that it doesn’t surprise me at all.
If you are wondering, the Reigns-Goldberg match and Becky-Lita are worth watching. The two chamber matches were spectacles, though both seemed really rushed.
They have six weeks to build us up to WrestleMania. They have a lot of work ahead of them.
