IWTV put out the following press release on their site today.
As confirmed first by Sports Illustrated, the fourth season of Uncharted Territory is coming to the Southeast starting in May.
The weekly series will air every Monday night live on IWTV at 8pm EST from the TWE Arena in Red Bank (Chattanooga), Tennessee beginning on May 9.
Season Four will be branded as Southeast First: Uncharted Territory, and will feature stars of the southern scene including IWTV Independent Wrestling World Champion AC Mack, Adam Priest, Kevin Ku and Ashton Starr, plus an array of top talent from other regions of the country.
Southeast First: Uncharted Territory is scheduled for thirteen episodes, and will conclude days before the 2022 Scenic City Invitational tournament which will also stream live on IWTV from Chattanooga.
Season tickets will be available on ShopIWTV.com soon.
Speaking with IWTV’s Dylan Hales, I asked what was between the lines of this info.
Starting with the decision to run on Mondays: This was an intentional choice to not compete with existing IWTV streams, most notably “Wrestling Open” which took the place of Uncharted Territory on Thursdays starting this year. That show is currently building its audience, roster and storylines with an increasingly larger crowd each week. The Southeast First edition of Uncharted Territory will likely face similar challenges as they introduce Monday night as the new time to come watch live wrestling in Chattanooga. While the larger in-show storyline has a Northeast vs Southeast angle, the real hope is that they can establish yet another day where an alternative and exciting regular wrestling option exists on IWTV.
Why start on May 9th? Uncharted Territory has always built stories towards major shows. With Beyond at the helm, this has historically been either Americanrana or Heavy Lies the Crown. For the Southeast, the Scenic City Invitational Tournament (and Action Futures Showcase) has been a launching pad for many stars in that region and makes sense as a hub for a supershow that features the TALENT vs the promotion. Mondays starting in May also won’t conflict with pro football, which can be a bigger general pull from wrestling in the South than in the Northeast. This schedule does mean that Uncharted Territory will fall on both Memorial Day and 4th of July but if the shows previous holiday editions were any indication, these should be a wild time with an invested audience looking for a good wrestle party.
So what about the TWE building in Chattanooga, TN? The place is a dedicated wrestling venue that’s wired for video, light and sound. It seats about 220-250 paid. It has a small kitchen that puts out many tasty fried foods. I went there last Oct for a TWE show and really liked the possibilities this venue held (It’s not ICONIC like the White Eagle is to Beyond…yet but it’s not an UNKNOWN venue. It’s the home of TWE. ICW has run a show there recently and has return dates coming in March. It played host to the KOBK debut show. It’s also hosted the 2022 Scenic City Invitational Tournament. But even then, the World Famous White Eagle was really put on the map by Uncharted Territory moving there from Electric Haze. Uncharted Territory’s 4th could have the same effect for the TWE building, making this venue a DESTINATION. It’s also central to many of the other area promotions. A couple of hours from Nashville. A couple of hours from Atlanta.
In order to support this new season, Hales also confirmed that IWTV head honcho Gerard Durling would be relocating to Chattanooga to support the technical side of the production. This will not only help the streaming presentation of Uncharted Territory in a new building, trying to make it visually distinct from a TWE show but also give other Southeast promotions more chances to have their shows be supported and streamed live on IWTV. This doesn’t leave the Northeast in a lurch though since they’ve had years of getting the kinks out of the system and know how to put on a good show presentation without Gerry directly at the helm.
As for the talent, sure…you’ll see IWTV Independent Wrestling World Champion AC Mack, Adam Priest, Kevin Ku and Ashton Starr…and probably Dominic Garrini and Tank and Bobby Flaco and Jaden Newman and Brogan Finlay and Alex Kane and Damyan Tangra and Derek Neal and MERC and Merrik Donovan and Suge D and Kevin Ryan and Angelus Layne and Matt Sells and BK Westbrook and Bojack and Brandon WILLIAMS and the ACEGAWD Arik Royal…and those are the ones I can just rattle off my brain in a few seconds. I’m sure there will be MORE…but the thing is…Uncharted Territory under Beyond Wrestling did a lot to showcase the wide range of talent in the Northeast while also bringing in and highlighting talent from other regions repeatedly through the three seasons. This includes the Discovery Gauntlet, a fixture of Uncharted Territory that will return to a singles format in Season 4.
Southeast First: Uncharted Territory anticipates lots of cross-pollination of talent and stories from promotions all over the US, including the Northeast…including Beyond. Like previous seasons, the show won’t operate in a void. Another advantage to Mondays, Hales told me was that it makes it easier for the local promotions to bring in talent for multiple Southeast shows spanning across a weekend, culminating on Monday’s Uncharted Territory.
While this whole angle has been billed as Southeast First (and those AC Mack promos HAVE been fire)…it’s not intended to be Southeast ONLY. Not by a long shot. Will it be good? I suspect it will be very much so. May 9th isn’t that far away and I’m looking forward to this particular roster of talent to get a larger audience. Until then!
