2/13/22 Results from New Japan's New Year Golden Series from Osaka
Kevin Kelly said the roster is healthy going forward during this tour, with the exception of Jeff Cobb with a leg injury and Kota Ibushi with a separated shoulder.
1 - Kosei Fujita, Tomoaki Honma and Yuji Nagata vs. Ryohei Oiwa, Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Satoshi Kojima
Tenzan forces Fujita to submit to a modified Boston crab.
They made an announcement of New Japan Strong Spirits video game for mobile devices available on February 28, 2022.
2 - Yujiro Takahashi, SHO and Dick Togo vs. Hirooki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI and YOH
YOH pins Togo.
3 - Great O-Khan vs. Togi Makabe
O-Khan pins Makabe after an Eliminator.
4 - DOUKI, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Taichi vs. BUSHI, Hiromu Takahashi and Shingo Takagi
Takagi pins DOUKI after a Pumping Bomber.
5 - Master Wato, Ryusuke Taguchi and Toru Yano vs. El Desperado, TAKA Michinoku and Minoru Suzuki
Yano brings a dog cage to the ring, which will be a stipulation in the upcoming single match between Yano and Suzuki.
Taguchi pins TAKA.
Suzuki fights Yano all the way into the dog cage. The young lions run to save Yano as Suzuki was beating him down. They pull Suzuki from the cage. Yano takes his cage and escapes. Suzuki beats both young lions and hand cuffs them together.
6 - El Phantasmo vs. Tiger Mask
Taiji Ishimori attacked Tiger Mask when he had ELP in an arm submission.
Tiger Mask wins by disqualification.
Ishimori rips off the mask of Tiger Mask and shows off to the crowd.
Robbie Eagles makes the save.
7 - Taiji Ishimori vs. Robbie Eagles.
They start the match, with ELP and Tiger Mask at ringside.
Eagles traps Ishimori in a Ron Miller Special. Tiger Mask blocks ELP from interfering.
Ishimori taps out.
Ryusuke Taguchi and Master Wato come to the ring and demand a title match. Yoshinobu Kanemaru and El Desperado come to the ring and demand the same. Eagles offers a 4 way Title Match for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Championship next week.
8 - NEVER Openweight Championship - Lumberjack Match: Tomohiro Ishii vs. EVIL
Hiroki Goto, YOSHI-HASHI and YOH will be lumberjacks for Ishii. Yujiro Takahashi, Dick Togo and SHO will be the lumberjacks for EVIL.
Lots of shenanigans in the match.
EVIL hits Everything is Evil. EVIL pins Ishii.
EVIL retains the NEVER Openweight Championship.
Once all the interference was done, Ishii and EVIL battled one on one. EVIL was able to beat Ishii in the final minutes without all the crap. That was good stuff. EVIL does not need the help. House of Torture is a crutch.
9 - SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada
Naito hit Valencia on Tanahashi. He then followed up with Destino.
Naito pins Tanahashi.
There seemed to be timing issues in this match. Naito missed some spots on both Okada and Tanahashi. Normally, you would not see that in an Okada match. This Golden Series was cut short by COVID. I am wondering if that lead to missed spots, when the wrestlers did not have the time to prepare in front of live crowds. Hopefully in a week, they will get those issues addressed.
Naito addresses the crowd in Osaka to send them home happy.
