Wrestling Open “Week 6”

2/10/22 - Worcester, MA

Streaming on IWTV.live

It was a move that didn’t seem particularly World Class but Bakabella sucked it up and paid his fine this week. Tonight, his charge headlines the show in his main event debut against Teddy Goodz. Anthony Greene is in action tonight and we have a wild 6-man tag to look forward to! But first, we have our spotlight match!

Spotlight Match: “The Shiny Don of Wrestling” Jay Heru vs “The Amish Phenom” Zachariah Gibbs

Heru grabs the mic and runs down the crowd and his opponent for their poorness. Heru needs better pants to make that statement. Gibbs churns some butter and lays in the beatdown early. Heru with yakuza kick and jumping elbow for two. Stomps to Gibbs and he locks up the head. Chokes in the rope, Gibbs dodges a charge and hits a uppercut. Back suplex! Discus lariat flattens Heru and that closes this out.

Winner: Zachariah Gibbs

We’re live on IWTV! Paul Crockett & Denver Colorado are at the commentary station. Rich Palladino is your announcer. The crowd is getting progressively bigger as each week passes and I’m seeing many new faces here! Let’s gooooooo!

Match 1: The Amazing Graysons (Tommy & JP Grayson vs The Haven (Jay Onyx & Shawn Knyte)

Onyx and JP grapple early, Knyte in for a pop up corkscrew splash. Tommy with the cutoff and JP gets to work Onyx over. Knyte gets the tag in and puts the Graysons on the back pedal. Slingshot euro uppercut to Tommy but he kicks out. JP drags Knyte out. Tommy gets Onyx with a handful of tights but the ref’s eyes are open. Tommy to the top, Knyte shoves him to the floor. Onyx reverses JP’s fireman’s carry with a crucifix bomb pin for the win!

Winners: The Haven

Match 2: “The New Jersey Cowboy” Steven Stetson vs Rex Lawless

Rex comes in hot but Stetson gets some early hits. He tries a whip but the big man chops him up. Big facebuster, full Nelson gets reversed but Rex blasts a spear for two. Stetson bounces Rex’s face off the buckle, clubbing blows to the back, jumping body attack to the back. He tries a suplex but again that is bad news and Rex is plants the cowboy on his face. Trading big boots. Both men staggered. Running corner boot by Rex, another out of the corner, kick out by Stetson! Rex catches Stetson running with a sitout chokebomb for the win! 2022 Rex is pretty great.

Winner: Rex Lawless

Match 3: “The Cobra” Arjun Singh vs “The Punjabi Lion” Jora Johl

Singh pie faces Johl at the bell. This is a battle of warriors. Lions. Johl roars back with forearms and Singh eats the buckle. Johl clubbed to the back of the head and Singh stomping him to the ropes. Kicks to the chest as Johl is trapped in the ropes. Johl dodges, headbutt into a powerslam! Singh rallies back but Johl blasts with a jumping boot to the face for the three! I liked Arjun’s intensity here but he didn’t hit Johl with a dropkick so he didn’t stand a chance.

Winner: Jora Johl

Match 4: “All Balls” Kevin Giza vs Traevon Jordan

Jaelyn Brandyn isn’t here tonight but Jordan is here to bring that Waves & Curls energy tonight! The crowd is fired up to dance. Giza escapes that bump & grind. He doesn’t wanna dance. Jordan drops him. Giza with a gut kick, comes running into a giant sitout bomb. Corner clothesline! The crowd is so loud for this…Giza fighting back with forearms and a corner kick. Giza comes running into a black hole slam. Kick out! Traevon sets up the chokeslam, Giza escapes, 619! Giza off the top, flies into a leg lariat! Chokeslam and Giza is done! Lot of fun, this one.

Winner: Traevon Jordan

Match 5: “The Cause of it All” Joey Conway vs “The Big Action” Pedro Dones

Conway does an interview with Rich Palladino. Wrestling Open needs him. Or the people in the back do? One of those. Dones is a teacher, he’s gonna teach Conway how to be at the top of the class. They fight back and forth, Dones showing unexpected power against the larger opponent.  Back suplex with a float over. Impressive but Conway kicks out. Conway back, huge PK for two! He misses a moonsault! Dones hits a vertical shoulder breaker for the pin!

Winner: Pedro Dones

Match 6: “The Last Entertainer” Encore vs “The Shore Thing” Ray Jaz

Man, how to ruin my excitement 101…just bring out Ray F***ing Jaz. At least his tip was short. Encore comes in but Jaz just drops him back over his shoulder. Encore flips out of a backdrop and gives Jaz some gyrations. Sling blade and high excitement DDT’s! Jaz rolls away from a senton. Encore hit with a side suplex for two. Jaz with some hooking forearms to the face. Jaz puts on a torture rack into a blue Thunder for two. Encore gets a foot up, Jaz staggered, roll up for two! Dropkick! Flying forearm! Side suplex! It’s showtime! Senton for two! Encore comes flying but Jaz catches him with the cradle powerbomb for the pin. Ugh. Encore is really over with the crowd and Ray Jaz just sucks the life out of the crowd every time he wins. Please send SLADE.

Winner: Ray Jaz

Match 7: Sammy Diaz (w/ Elijah Six) vs Jay Lyon

Six takes a spot at the commentary desk.

Diaz taking the big power early. Suplex for two. Diaz uses a distracted ref to take a cheap shot and drop Lyon on his head. Dropkick to the back of the head! Lyon kicks out! Diaz with a sharpshooter! Lyon kicks free! Diaz with a powerslam! Flying clothesline from Lyon. Diaz dropped on his head, corner splash, handspring enziguri! Diaz kicks out! Diaz kicks out the leg, flying kick to the back of the head, Lyon is starched for the three!

Winner: Sammy Diaz

Match 8: “Fancy” Ryan Clancy vs Love Doug

Doug throws a heart to someone at ringside and they almost fall out the fire door. Amazing. Anyways, Clancy takes a test of love…and kicks Doug in the gut. Hip toss with a twirl! Body slam, dropkick, Clancy intercepts the headbutt rebound lariat and sends Cupid to the floor. Doug struggles back in as Clancy does push-ups. Hot shot to the top rope, kick out. Doug with a big to the chin staggers Ryan! Corner splash! Basement dropkick! Kick out! Doug is ready to love. Clancy chops the throat, he dodges a rebound lariat but Doug dodges that and lands the finish for the win!

Winner: Love Doug

Raz Jaz is out here to make us more miserable. He gets in Doug’s face at the entryway and walks off before he can be retorted to.

Match 9: Brick City Boys (JCruz & Victor Chase) vs Saito Brothers (Jun & Rei Saito w/ Jay Freddie)

The Saito Brothers are making their debut on Wrestling Open, on an adventure to the US from their home in All Japan Pro Wrestling. Brick City Boyz are FEELING THEIR POWER in the early minutes of this matches. The Boyz get a cheap shot in and start to work their opponents over. Jun tags in and starts hitting big suplexes on Cruz. Chase in with a flying headbutt. Rei with a Samoan drop. Cruz with a saito suplex! They get Jun up and hit the bricks on him. Rei is kept in the corner as the ref counts three. Boooooooo! I really liked these Saito Brothers! Also WELCOME BACK JAY FREDDIE!

Winners: Brick City Boys

Match 10: “The One-Man Boy Band” Eric James vs “The Alternative” Anthony Greene

James sings himself to the ring with his acapella “I want it that way”. He remains a perfect punchable d-bag. Greene gets the heroes welcome he’s owed and pummels James early. The crowd sings for AG as he traps James in a side headlock. Head scissor takedown and a big slam. James out at two. Green with an Unprettier attempt but eats a back suplex. James hits a backbreaker but that’s not enough. AG with a roll up but Janes with a buckle bomb. Slingshot code red for two! AG reverses a facebuster with a rollup. Jawbreaker Kip up! Rope walk crossbody for two! James flips out of a back drop and hits a running kick…tiger bomb for two! AG with a suplex facebuster, he hits an Unprettier bulldog for the pin!

Winner: Anthony Greene

Main Event Part 1: Miracle Generation (Dustin Waller & Kylon King) and Ichiban vs “The Prize” Alec Price, Bobby Orlando (w/ Bobby Orlando) and Mortar

This was supposed to be a Shook Crew throw down but Bryce Donovan went to the hospital this week. Get well soon! Luckily, Orlando has a few other friends (not just some stuffed goats). This is one half of a double main event so this match has a 20-min time limit. Waller wants Orlando and Mortar tries to give him what he wants…and Orlando immediately tags out to Price. Waller putting Price in the defense with head scissors and arm drags and giving Orlando a DEATH STARE. King with a wheelbarrow splash and moonsault to Price for two. Ichiban brings the heat with a handspring back elbow and many singular punches in the corner. Price drops Ichiban and gets Orlando in the to do some damage while no member of Miracle Generation can touch him. King in but Orlando is out of there. Price dropped for two. Mortar distracts the ref as Orlando tosses King from the top into a superkick. King taking the heat now. Sick trick corner whips and a Bobby slam to King. Another for two! Mortar & Price take out the opposition, leaving King alone. Kylon with a high knee to Mortar! Enziguri to Price! Bobby dives in and misses as Waller gets the tag and pummels him with punches. Knee to the corner! Rapid buckle shots and a rolling DVD! Moonsault for two! Price and Mortar back to running protection. Walker fighting them off but Mortar crumbles him with a right and it’s a 3 on 1 pummeling. King in! Ichiban off the top wipes out everyone! Mortar turns King inside out with a clothesline. Tilt a whirl Ddt from Ichiban! Price with a ripcord enziguri! Waller with a flying axe handle across the damn ring! Orlando with a back stabber takes Waller out of the air! Price with a flip ddt to Waller! Orlando wants the kill but Price wants it too. They come to blows as King and Ichiban send them out of the ring. Mortar is alone and the numbers gane stacks up. Double knee to the head! Handspring cutter! King and Ichiban with a stereo dive! Crowd fired up hard for this! Big fight at the entry and Walker hits a senton over the corner to everyone! Waller in with Orlando alone! Flying knee crumbles Bobby! 450 splash closes this awesome war out! This was fan-damn-tastic.

Winners: Miracle Generation & Ichiban

Main Event Part 2: “World Class” Channing Thomas (w/ Sidney Bakabella) vs Teddy Goodz (w/ Little Mean Kathleen)

Wrestling Open’s most anticipated debut closes out tonight’s episode! The crowd is wildly chanting “WORLD CLASS” even as Bakabella demands they take two steps back from the ring. Ring the bell. They square off, Bakabella instantly distracts the ref: Thomas puts on brass knuckles, KO’s Goodz and gets the pin in 36 seconds. BOOM. JUST LIKE THAT.

Winner: Channing Thomas

LMK in the ring trying to revive a starched Goodz. Bakabella picks up LMK AND TRIES TO PILEDRIVE HER. Thomas saves her…so he can piledrive her himself!

The crowd boos this HARD and throws trash and bottles at them as Bakabella and Thomas celebrates their new status of being undefeated. The refs, Crockett and Palladino hit the ring to check on LMK, who is holding her neck on the mat. Goodz is back up and tends to his fallen partner. The crowd cheers for her and she gets to her feet and they get her out of the room but she looks ROUGH.

And that’s it for Week 6 of Wrestling Open! This was hands down the best crowd I’ve seen in the six weeks. Clearly something is building here. People are telling people. People are bringing new people. People on the street are finally figuring out why there’s a line outside the White Eagle that goes around the corner every Thursday night for the last several months. Some really good story beats in the early going but this show was ALWAYS going to be about the debut of Channing Thomas, who made an IMPACT and managed to turn a crowd that was very much on his side against him in a single move. ExcelleGaletine’snt story arc here and I can’t wait to see where “No Class” Channing Thomas goes from here! This Sunday is WWR+’s return to Worcester for “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre”. I’m out of town until next weekend but will cover that (and WO Week 7) as soon as the VOD hits IWTV! Until then!
