FULL AEW DYNAMITE BLOG

By Cory Strode on 2022-02-09 20:30:00

It's Wednesday, AEW Dynamite is at the Jim Whelan Boardwalk Center in Atlantic City New Jersey, and we've been promised a huge surprise. Our commentary team is Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.

We start with Wardlow bringing out cardboard cutouts of MJF beating CM Punk last week. Wardlow then gives Justin what he is to say for entrances for each member of the Pinnacle. All in suits. Justin is then given a long, braggadocios entrance, and he his brought in on a Palanquin. Yeah, I didn't know that word either, but it's the platform with a throne on it that is carried on the shoulders of four men. He then gives a long kiss to one of the women accompanying him and confetti is dropped for the crowd.

Completely overdone and prefect for MJF.

He starts by saying he is the best wrestler in the world. In face, he's better than the best in the world. He then says he could not have won last week without Shawn Spears for helping him to warm up. Not, Wardlow for giving him the Diamond Ring he used to win. He then says it's time for him to become the new AEW World Champion.

CM Punk comes out and calls over Tony Schiavone. Punk says that MJF's win is as suspect as his spray tan, and now he won't be working along, he has some friends. Sting and Darby Allin come out and he says he wants a rematch. MJF starts to protest, and Punk says he wants the match with Wardlow since Wardlow is the one who beat him.

MJF says he won all by himself, and Punk asks if Wardlow has heard that? Dax then demands a rematch, and Punk says they accept. MJF says he won't wrestle in Atlantic City. MJF says that if Punk can beat FTR with any tag team partner of his choice, he'll give Punk a rematch, but it can be Sting or Darby.

He also tells Wardlow to suit up because he's got a match.

Backstage, Tony is with Andrade El Idolo and says he has finally set up the meeting between him, Sting and Darby Allin. Andrade still calls Sting Darby's boss. Sting reminds Andrada that Darby isn't a kid and if he wants to talk to Darby, do it Mano E Mano. Darby says he is busy going after the TNT Championship. Andrade says they have one thing in common, he is also going to go for the TNT Championship.

Short, and I just don't get the whole Andrade being a goofball thing.

Blade vs Wardlow

Gee, Blade, looks like it is not going to be your night.

Blade goes after Wardlow's legs and works him over in the corner. However, Wardlow ends it with a clothesline. He then hits a series of suplexes while selling his leg. JR points out that Shawn Spears is eating something and you don't eat on TV unless there's an angle to it. Wardlow then beats the tar out of Blade outside the ring on the small screen.

We come back to full screen for the power bombs. 4 power bombs later, Wardlow puts a foot on Balde's chest for the three.

Your winner: Wardlow

Shawn Spears comes in with the chair, wallops Blade, and they leave.

We then get a video of Penta in a graveyard, and we are told Penta is after Malakai Black. Super short, but keeps the feud in our minds.

It's now time for the Inner Circle team meeting, also held in the ring. Jericho comes out with Sammy Guevara and Jake Hager, who I haven't seen in ages. Santana anmd Ortix are not with them as the Atlantic City Choir sings Jericho's entrance theme. Jericho says he hasn't seen Santana and Ortiz all day, and they then come out to their own music.

Jericho says that them not tagging him into their match two weeks ago was unacceptable and why did they do it. Santana says that the whole Inner Circle has always been about Chris Jericho. He then says the days of them playing second fiddle are done. He says that Jericho always stayed in their way but the fans kept them going. He then points to Ortix and says if not for him, he would have dropped them a long time ago.

Jericho says that Eddie Kingston has planted this in their head, and he is the influencer in this company and goes over the times they have been in main events. He says their loss to the Young Bucks had nothing to do with him. He brought them into the Inner Circle and he can kick them out, and maybe he brought in the wrong two members of the Inner Circle.

Santana grabs Jericho and Hager and Sammy pull him off. Sammy tries to calm things down and Jericho tells him to shut up. Sammy says they are all family, and the bickering is getting in the way of his goal of being the best wrestler who ever lived. He says he's quit the group before, and unless they sort it out, he will quit again.

Ortiz grabs a mic and asks what Jericho expects. He says that Eddie Kingston is one of their brothers in arms. He says the talking won't settle anything, and where they come from, they settle it with fists. And next week, it's Santana and Ortiz vs Jericho and Hager. Jericho agrees.

In the back, Tony is with Rappongi Vice to hype their match with the Young Bucks on Friday/. The Bucks show up, and while they are talking, Adam Cole shows up and they take down Rappongi Vice...

AND JAY WHITE SHOWS UP TO JOIN IN!

Isiah Kassidy vs Keith Lee Face of the Revolution Qualifying Match.

Keith Lee is our second surprise. He fits in AEW far better than he ever would have in WWE with his promo style. A great get for AEW.

Kassidy jacks his Jaw and Lee and gets tossed across the ring. Kassidy gets in a couple of strike, and then runs into a cross body from Lee. Kassidy rolls from the ring and when Lee goes out to meet him, Marq Quen tosses Kassidy back into the ring. Lee just dominates Kassidy shoulder blocking him out of the ring.

Matt Hardy leaves through the crowd. Hah.

Kassidy is able to get a corkscrew dive to knock Lee down on the floor. Lee comes into the ring and Kassidy attacks him as he comes through the ropes and Lee just schrugs him off. Lee finishes it with a version of the F5 and a pin.

Your winner: Keith Lee

Marq Quen attack and then knock Lee out of the ring. They each leap, and Lee cathes each one. He slams Quen onto Kassidy and then power bombs Quen on the apron.

Great debut.

We get a recap from Friday showing that Britt Baker brought in Mercedes Martinez to take out Thunder Rosa. The next match between Rosa and Martinez will now be a no DQ match.

Sammy Guevara has his cue cards for the small screen during ads. He says that he walked away from the Inner Circle and his action spoke volumes about how much th TNT championship means to him.

FTR vs CM Punk and Jon Moxley

Funny how many people on line were saying this would be the third surprise. If there is a third surprise, they should pull it out at the end of the show when everyone has settled in and thinks it's all done.

IF there is a third surprise.

I'm more excited about the Rosa vs Martinez no DQ next week, though. That should be great.

Punk and Dax start it out. They trade holds, super crisp work.

Dax tags in Cash while holding Punk's arm and Cash keeps him down.

Punk gets arm drags and Cash break free and tags in Dax. Mox then gets tagged in.

They trade holds and headlock takeovers.

They run the ropes, ending with Mox slamming Dax and then Mox hitting a series of kicks.

Punk tags in and Cash is able to distract Punk for Dax to attack Punk's leg that was hurt last week.

Cash tags in and keeps working the leg.

This is just an old school tag team match with guys who know the storytelling of the ring.

Mox tags in and he cleans house on FTR with tosses and suplexes.

He ends the sequence with a double DDT on FTR

Punk flies in with a springboard lariat

Mox leaps onto FTR on the outside and they go to the small screen

When they return to full screen, Mox is crawling to the ring after he was put through the timekeepers table. He makes it in on 9.75

FTR keeps him in their corner. Dax drops a series of elbows on Mox and then headlocks him to keep him from tagging out.

Mox starts fighting his way out, but he doesn't see the blind tag from Cash, but suplexes him anyway.

Dax attacks Punk on the apron and they fight into a neutral corner, and Mox can't tag him.

FTR take Mox back to their corner and hit the assisted leg drop for a two count.

Dax misses an elbow off the top and Mox is able to get a lariat on Cash in order to tag in Punk.

Punk cleans house but stil sells the leg.

Punk gets a two count on Dax. Mox is on the floor, unable to be tagged in.

FTR goes for a power plex, but Mox and Punk block it.

Punk and Mox hit a doomsday device on Cash and Punk leaps onto Cash on the floor.

Mox covers for a two count.

Mox is DDTed on the floor.

Cash takes the ring bell to the ring.

Punk gets a roll up on Dax, but is kicked off into the ring bell being held by Cash. Dax gets a brain buster and covers for a two count and Punk kicks out

Cash is able to keep Punk in FTR's corner with strikes.

Cash is tagged in and Punk kicks off of him

Cash is able to recover and they hit the Big Rig on Punk, the pin being broken up by Mox

All four men throw hands in the middle fo the ring, and Punk and Mox are able to win the exchange. Punk and Mox set up for their finishers, but FTR is able to escape.

Punk slaps on the anaconda vice, but Cash taps out. The ref is dealing with Mox and Dax.

Tully Blanchard comes in to attack Punk. Hits the GTS on Tully and Cash tries a rollup on Punk who kicks out at two.

Punk hits the GTS on Cash, and Mox stops Dax from interfering with a Paradigm shift.

Punk covers for the three count and the win.

Your winners, CM Punk and Jon Moxley, and now Punk gets a match with MJF of his choosing.

Jade Cargill vs A.Q.A.

AQA is debuting and she gets a quick pretaped promo about how she was trained by Booker T.

Jade tosses AQA and then sets in a wristlock to take her down. AQA gets a hip toss upon getting other feet and Jade just picks her up and hits a back drop. Jade hits s popup, but AQA drop kicks her out of the ring at her apex and we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, AQA hits a few cross bodies to take Jade down. AQA is able to hit the tilt a whirl DDT on Jade. AQA goes to the top for a shooting star press and a two count. Really nice shooting star. AQA goes back up to do it again, and this tiem Jade gets up before AQA can jump. Jade is able to put AQA on the top. AQA tries another crossbody, and Jade catches him, tosses her to the mat and then hits the Jaded for the three count.

Your winner: Jade Cargill

Nice spotlight for AQA and Jade looked goodc not just working her over, but selling for her big moves as well.

In the back, The Young Bucks and Adam Cole talk about how they will be climbing back up the rankings. Cole says that Jay White will have their back. Matt says that White and Kenny Omega have issues. Adam Cole says that they are Bullet Club and it's For Life, and he'll have more to say about it Friday.

Serena Deeb comes out and says there is not a woman in the back that is on her level, and no woman in the back can even go five minutes with her. So she offers a five minute Rookie challenge. Already in the ring is Katie Arquette.

Serena Deeb vs Katie Arquette in a five minute challenge

Deeb works Katie in the corner and than backs off and taunts Katie. She turns her back on Katie, but when Katie attacks, Deeb takes her down and a wraps her ar,m, wrenches back on the leg and Katie has to tap.

Your winner: Serena Deeb

We get a rundown of Rampage on Friday and a video package of the lead up between Gunn Club and Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus.

We then the matches set for next week's Dynamite.

Hangman Adam Page (AEW Champion) vs Lance Archer in a Texas Death Match

They are already brawling in the back and they fight out of the entrance way. Page nails Archer with the belt and then tosses him through a glass entrance on the other side of the stage. Archer is bleeding. They go to the ring and Page hits the buckshot lariat. Archer is able to answer the referee count at 9. Page leaps into a trash can lid held by Archer outside the ring and Archer beats him down with it.

Dan Lambert unscrews one of the turn buckles to remove the top rope. Page then hits a moonsault from the barricade onto Archer. Back to the ring and Page sees there is no top rope. Archer clubs Page from behind and we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, we've got tables set up on the floor. Page is busted open as well, and they fail to put each other through the tables. As Archer is pulling up the mats, Jake hits Page with a short clothesline. Archer comes over to take over and Page is able to hit a DDT on the floor. They return to the ring and Page has a Kendo stick and goes to work with it.

Too much blood for me. Sorry, but I just don't like that sort of thing.

Archer catches the stick and breaks it over his knee. He then choke slams Page on the garbage can. Archer pulls out a fork and attacks Page with it. Page goes to the floor and Archer hits a cannonball senton on him. Archer pulls out chairs including a chair with barbed wire on it. Archer then sets up the steel steps and hits a black out onto the steps. Page pinballs to the floor.

Page gets into the ring and takes the barbed wire off the chair and attacks Archer. He then tosses it down, and the ref goes to pick it up. Page goes over the ref's back for a buckshot lariat that puts them through the tables on the outside. Page is able to answer the count, but Archer is not.

Your winner and still AEW Champion: Adam Page

Adam Cole walks down to the ring after the match and grabs the title belt. He puts the belt on Page's shoulder and leaves the ring.

The worst part of that match at the end was that it didn't tell any sort of story at all. It was “I beat on you, then you beat on me and back and forth until we get to the cool ending we set up.” AND the “cool ending” didn't need the blood. It didn't get Page over like a match where he chopped Archer down to size (like AQA was doing with Jade Cargill), it was just His Turn to be on offense.

I get the people who say blood adds to a match. I don't agree with them, but I get it. Blood added nothing to this match because the buildup was rushed, it was their first match, and it didn't change a damn thing about the match. The match would have been exactly the same if no one cut themselves.

Just stupid on top of disgusting.
