It is Wednesday, we are in Chicago IL at the Wintrust Arena, and it's time for AEW Dynamite. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Jim Ross and Tony Schiavone.
Jon Moxley vs Wheeler Yuta
Danhausen is with the Best Friends?
Mox dodges a drop kick and Yuta misses the King Kong clothesline. When they settle into a match, the crowd has dueling Let's Go Moxley/Danhausen chants. Very nice.
Yuta gets in some offense, but Mox soon takes over. The story of the match becomes that Yuta isn't able to affect Mox, but is able to squirm out of the attempts from Mox to end the match. Yuta gets a flurry of offense and Mox is able to cut him off with a DDT on the apron. When they get back in the ring, Yuta is able to keep Mox down with a series of moves. Mox is able to finally hit the paradigm shift and get the three to win the match about 8 minutes longer than their last match.
Your winner: Jon Moxley
As Mox is celebrating, Bryan Danielson rolls into the ring and they face off. Bryan has a mic and asks if the crowd wants to see them fight. Bryan says for a long time, he wanted to see them fight too, but now, we've seen a new Jon Moxley. He says he wanted to test Moxley and that when Mox was the AEW champion, he was the best AEW Champion. And if he had a little support he would still be champion.
And that's when he decided they shouldn't be fighting each other, they should be fighting together. Bryan says there is no reason why some millennial cowboy should be a champion. Someone dressed as a dinosaur should not be champion. Someone who's biggest contribution is a vlog should be champion. And they could run this place. If they took someone under their wings, they could could make them stars.
He then says that even if the fans don't like him, they like what he is talking about. Bryan says he wants Jon to think about it and get back to him.
I liked Bryan Danielson's promo, but the match leading into it was far too long for where Mox is on the card and where Wheeler Yuta is on the card.
We then get a video package of the feud between CM Punk and MJF.
Brandi Rhodes is the ring and tries to start a promo and is interrupted by Dan Lambert and the Men of the Year. He says that she can pretend that Cody earned his spot and her title is a real job. He also has something to say about her chest. He says he almost feels like a decent human being standing next to her.
She lobs a shot at Ethan Page, saying they only hired him to get close to Josh Alexander. She starts talking, and the crowd asks her politely to be quiet. OK, they chant Shut The F---- up. She heels the crowd and then says that Dan's best fighter got knocked out by Jake Paul.
He says the Rhodes family should turn heel and then throws in a sex joke. Brandi slaps him and he says he has a better idea for Brandi, and he calls out Paige Vanzant out who starts to attack Brandi. The Women's locker room empties out to pull them apart and the crowd is quiet as they are pulled apart.
Brandi just is NOT someone the crowd cares about no matter how they try, and I have never heard such silence for a pull apart.
We go to Matt Hardy's stairwell where he says he is disappointed with Private Party losing and he wants a shot at the TNT title. Andrade comes out and Matt says Isiah Kassidy will take on Sammy Guevara. Matt asks why Darby isn't signed yet. Andrade says he must want more money. Matt grabs Isiah and says he better not fail him.
Knights of the Black Throne (Brody King and Malakai Black) vs Pac and Penta El Zero Miedo
The ring announcer calls them Kings of the Black Throne as they come to the ring. Seems like everyone is just a bit off tonight.
Black and Pac start the match and Pac is wearing a blindfold. Black starts by yelling at Pac and Pac stands still. He dodges Black's first attack and when they engage, Pac is able to nails him with kicks and Pac takes off the blindfold. Penta comes into the ring and takes out King. They then do a simultaneous leap on the Knights on opposite sides of the ring.
Penta tags in and Pac hold Black from Penta to leap onto his nether regions. He gets a few moves in before tagging in Pac. King is able to hit a sledge hammer fists into Pac's back, and he tags in as we go picture in picture.
Is it just me or did the “Pac Can't See” thing not have any impact at all?
When they return to full screen, Pac is able to get the tag to Penta after being beat down the entire break and Penta cleans house. Penta and Black trade quick two counts. Pac gets the blind tag and they are back to trading kicks and strikes. Black get the better of the exchange and gets a pair of quick two count. Pac is able to get a suplex and a brain buster for a two count broken up by King, and Penta comes in the ring to face off with King.
Penta ends their fight wing a leap onto King outside the ring, and Black and Pac pull themselves into the ring. Pac is tossed from the ring, Black spews the black mist into Penta's eyes. King is tagged in and hits Dante's Inferno on Penta and covers for the three count.
Your winners: Knight of the Black Throne
Underwhelming in so many ways. Pac's not being blind didn't have any impact, Pac coming for revenge after being out for a long time had no impact, and the ending wasn't sneaky or scary, just kind of “Yeah, that's what he does.”
In the back, Adam Cole says he is still undefeated because the match with Orange Cassidy winning was a fluke (and it was unsanctioned) He says that everyone will see a new side of Adam Cole because he will beat Evil Uno in two weeks.
It's clear to me that this is a one match show.
Nyla Rose vs Ruby Soho
The lead singer of Rancid is at ringside to cheer Ruby on, since she uses they song for her entrance.
Ruby starts by tossing her jacket at Nyla and attacks. Nyla is able to run her over with a clothesline and a body slam. Ruby tries to get quick attacks in, but Rose is able to stop her and hit a Samoan drop and a two count. Rose keeps up the pressure with a suplex and a two count.
Rose then sits on Ruby's back and pulls up an arm,. Stretching it and biting a finger when they ref isn't looking. Rose hits a series of shoulders in the corner. Rose keep Ruby down with stomps. Ruby chops her way to her feet, but Rose ends it with a head butt and a leg drop for another two count. Rose then hits a Death Valley Driver for a two count as they go picture in picture.
When they return to full screen, Ruby and Rose are fighting on the apron. Ruby picks up Rose and drops Rose on the apron, but crumples to the floor afterwarde. Rose is able to hit a spine buster on Ruby. Rose tosses Ruby back in the ring and Ruby escapes the Beast Bomb and hit s a No Future for a two count as Vickie Guerrero puts Rose's foot on the rope.
Ruby goes after Vickie, allowing Rose to grab her by the hair and drag her into the ring for a neck breaker off the second rope. Rose goes to the top, sllowing Ruby to get up and they fight on the top. Ruby goes for a Hurrancanrana, and Rose stops her. Ruby escapes and goes for a kick and missed. Rose hits a leap off the ropes, a Beast Bomb and a cover for the three count and the win.
Your winner: Nyla Rose
In the back, the Gunn Club has a camera crew and corner Jungle Boy. He tries to fight his way free, and they are able to beat him down and toss him into the snow outside the arena.
We get a glimpse of CM Punk and MJF warming up as we go to commercial.
Tony Schiavone is in the ring with Hangman Adam Page. He asks Page about the Texas Death Match with Lance Archer for the title next week. He talks about how he has been champion for 81 days and has only has two matches. He says he needs a fight tonight and asks Lance Archer to come out and give Chicago a fight.
Dan Lambert comes out with Jake Roberts and starts to jack his jaw and he tells Lambert to shut up...and Jake tells him to shut up. Jake says that Page is jumpy and scared. Archer comes out and they brawl. Lambert hits Page with a steel chair and Page tosses him into the ring, and Archer attacks Page from behind. He chokeslams Page on the steel steps. He then hits a blackout, putting Page through the time keeper's table.
In the back, Jericho is in the back and he is not happy with Santana and Ortiz and then not tagging him in and ignoring him is disrespectful. He says he wants to hear from they why they did what they did. Next week, there will be a full Inner Circle team meeting next week.
We then get a rundown of the card for Rampage this Friday.
MJF is on his way to the ring and it's time for the main event with 45 minutes left in the show.
Punk comes out after the commercial.
MJF vs CM Punk
The bell rings with 40 minutes left in the show.
MJF starts with a cheap shot on Punk as the ref is hold Punk back (MJF was in the ropes) and after MJF's first flurry, Punk takes over. He does a bit where MJF is in the ropes, and when Punk punches him, MJF pendulums on the ropes and then comes back into a Punk fist a few times. The match goes to the floor. The fight then goes into the crowd and up the steps.
They brawl in the crowd and the ref is letting them go because we don't want a count out. Thanks for giving them cover, JR. They ruturn to ringside and Punk tosses MJF into the ring. As Punk slams MJF, MJF yells “Nononono!” which is one of those little things that I love. Punk slams him repeatedly as the crowd yells One More Time.
MJF is in corner and Punk tries to ram into him. MJF gets out of the way and punk goes into the ring post and onto the floor. MJF then attacks Punk on the floor and we go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, MJF is still working on Punk's shoulder with Punk on the top. Punk fights his way back on the top and then after MJF drops, he hits a cross body onto MJF on the mat. Punk isn't able to hit an Irish whip due to the arm, but he does get a neck breaker and a running bulldog on MJF. Punk calls for the GTS and MJF rolls to the apron. Punk is able to stop him from going to the floor, picks him up and then slams him on the apron.
Punks hold MJF for a fan to slap him in the chest, tosses MJF into the ring and goes to the top. MJF is able to hit the ropes to crotch Punk and MJF is able to cover for a two count. MJF goes right back after the arm and Punk hits the Pepsi twist to drop MJF and escape the hold. Punk calls for the GTS again and the MJF grabs the ref to hold in front of him. MJF uses the tape around his wrists to put Punk to sleep, but the ref didn't see when it was wrapped.
Punk passes out.
Your winner; MJF
The ref sees the tape on the mat and he tells the announcer that the match will continue.
Punk gets a quick roll up for a two count. Punk then tosses him turnbuckle to turnbuckle and then pounds him down in corner. Punk hits a clothesline and MJF is left laying. MJF is able to toss Punk over the top rope and we go to picture in picture.
Sadly, art this point my laptop rebooted and it picked up again when Punk and MJF had fought on the outside and Punk had messed up his knee. Punk limps across the ring into an attack by MJF who goes after the knee and then wraps up Punk's injured arm and attacks the knee with a leg over leg hold. Punks powers out and puts MJF in the STF.
Punk has to let go as he is just too banged up to keep the hold. Pun k si able to pick up MJF, but his knee collapses and they drop to the mat. MJF goes for a quick rollup and gets a two count. They trade quick two counts until MJF gets an ankle lock. Punk escapes, running MJF into the turnbuckle face first. They then trade blows in the middle of the ring. Punk ends the exchange with a reverse Hurrancanrana. Punk rolls onto MJF for a two count.
I notice that MJF has Pinstripes on his gear like the NY Yankees.
Punk tries to get MJF up and just collapses on the mat. Punk then crawls over and MJF goes for the Salt of the Earth. Punk tosses him off and hen MJF grabs the ropes, he screams in pain due to the neck injury. MJF hits a pump handle slam and a two count, and MJF didn't have a good hold on the pin. Punk gets a waistlock and MJF tries to run into the ref, but Punk stops them. MJF hits a mule kick into the yam bag and then covers for a two count, feet on the rope. We go to picture in picture.
When we return to full screen, MJF is up, and twisting Punk's leg while Punk is laying on the mat. Punk is able to get a leg hiold and rolls up MJF for a two count. Punk gets the knee in the corner, and MJF stops his next move with biting punk's hand and head. MJF pulls Punk to the top and Punk escapes with a bite of his own. Punk then hits the Pepsi Plunge on MJF and both men are down, stunned.
MJF starts a slow roll to the floor and Punk can't stop him. MJF tosses his elbow pad away and Punk tosses MJF back in the ring. MJF pulls Punk up for a pile dirver, and Punk reverses. MJF reverses again for a two count. Punk hits a roundhouse kick and climbs to the top. Punk hits the flying elbow for a two count only.
He calls for GTS and MJF drops out of the ring again. As this happens, Wardlow comes from the back in street clothes. Wardlow steps over MJF and goes eye to eye with Punk. Wardlow then steps back and walks away. Punks tosses MJF into the ring.
Wardlow walks back to the ring and as he grabs the rope, MJF puts the ring on his fist and nails Punk as the ref isn't looking and covers Punk for the three count.
Your winner: MJF
We see afterwards that Wardlow passes the ring to MJF while no one was looking.
