This week's Ring of Honor TV opened with Ian Riccaboni welcoming everyone to highlights from the 2021 Final Battle PPV.
ROH World Women's Champion Rok-C vs. Willow
Rok-C looked like a damn star coming out. At 19, her poise is crazy.
Willow used her power to stop some of Rok-C's offense. Willow used a cannonball and began focusing on the champ's shoulder. Rok-C showed some awesome fire and facial expressions in making her comeback. It's nice to see Willow, who I've seen over the years as she's evolved in NYC, getting so many chances lately. She pounced the hell out of Rok-C, which brought the house down. They took the fight to each other, to the point there were dueling chants. This was absolutely fun. Lots of near falls.
Rok-C finally scored the pin with the Code Red. Willow looked so good that a big portion of the crowd booed the finish.
Your winner and still ROH World Women's Champion, Rok-C!
This was really a star making performance for Nightingale in a lot of ways and I suspect it will open some more doors for her.
Deonna Purrazzo came out as a surprise to her Impact theme.
Ian asked, "Why do we have to end this now? She's come here too late."
Deonna told Rok-C that she has what is truly Purrazzo's. Purrazzo challenged Rok-C to a winner take all match after Purrazzo is done beating Mickie James for the Knockouts title. Rok-C shook her hand and the deal was made. Rok-C's facial expressions here were just awesome. I cannot imagine she isn't quickly snatched up. who
They went to a message from Colt Cabana talking about his past with ROH and its importance to his career, praising Gabe Sapolsky as a peer booker.
They then went to a video message from Bryan Danielson. He said that if it wasn't for the opportunities given to him in ROH, he wouldn't be where he is. He talked about his Final Battle matches with Homicide and Takeshi Morishima. He thanked the company but said he wanted to thank the fans for making ROH what it was. He said he hopes ROH does stick around, but whatever happens, he says thank you from the bottom of his heart.
Jay Lethal vs. Jonathan Gresham for the ROH World title.
AEW sending Lethal back really saved ROH's rear end that night.
Some good back and forth technical action early on. Lethal gained control but Gresham kept having the solution for every Lethal problem, until he was hit with a big powerslam. Back and forth dueling chants.
They went back and forth, countering each other's work and scoring near falls. Lethal eacaped the Backlund Bridge but was drilled in the arm. Gresham began focusing on that extremity. They began to chop each other back and forth. Jay gained control but Gresham rolled out of the way of a potential flying elbow. Some great nearfall combinations I expect we'll see others utilize in the weeks to come. Lethal whipped out the Torture Race. Lethal's bad arm gave out during an attempted Lethal Injection. Gresham went for the crossface chickenwing and finally scored it. Lethal fought to his way with Gresham hanging on his back, turning it into a cutter.
The ROH locker room surrounded the ring for the end of the final ROH title bout. They battled back and forth. Near falls galore. Lethal went for Lethal Injection but was caught with a backslide. Gresham locked in an Octopus and Lethal tapped.
Your winner and new ROH Champion, Jonathan Gresham, closing the door on ROH as we knew it.
Fittingly, Cary Silkin presented the belt to Gresham. His wife, Jordynne Grace, hit the ring to be there for the moment.
