THE NWA CROCKETT CUP IS RETURNING

By Mike Johnson on 2022-01-27 14:22:00

The National Wrestling Alliance will hold the 2022 Crockett Cup, it was announced today.

While the promotion did not reveal the dates or location, the word making the rounds is it will likely be in late February or early March.

The NWA is seeking potential teams for the tournament, announcing the following:

Is your tag team looking for an opportunity? ????

In the NWA we LOVE Tag Team Wrestling and although we feature some of the best teams in the world, WE WANT MORE for the CROCKETT CUP.

So if you think you're ready for the ultimate tag team tournament in the industry, now is your chance to step up and make the case.

Send the evidence to the NWASubmissions email and tell us why we should be featuring YOU.

The Crockett Cup was created by Jim Crockett Promotions to pay tribute to the late Jim Crockett Sr.  The first event was held in 1986, won by The Road Warriors.  Two subsequent tournaments were held, won by Nikita Koloff and Dusty Rhodes in 1987 and Sting and Lex Luger in 1988.  The tournament did not continue after Turning Broadcasting purchased Jim Crockett Promotions in late-1988, transforming it into WCW.

Under Billy Corgan's ownership, the NWA revived the Crockett Cup Tournament for the first time since 1988 in 2019, with Villain Enterprises winning the tournament.  In 2020, the planned Crockett Cup tournament was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.  This year will be the return for the event.
