By Kendall Jenkins on 2022-01-25 07:44:00

With the date and venue for the 2022 WWE Royal Rumble confirmed, organisers are now putting the finishing touches to the final line-up. Which names will be in attendance to mark the spectacular return of one of world sport’s best-loved nights of action?

The arena is ready. The fighters are working to sharpen their skills. And the best UK betting sites have their odds in place. Are you ready to dive into the excitement and drama that is the Royal Rumble? Fans will be back in attendance with a capacity crowd boosted by the millions of armchair fans watching on TV and through live streams worldwide.

Date, venue, and line-up

Royal Rumble 2022 will happen on the 29th of January at The Dome of America’s Center in St Louis, Missouri. The evening’s fight card consists of a men’s Royal Rumble and a women’s Royal Rumble, each with 30 fighters involved. There will also be a singles match for the WWE Championship as Brock Lesnar takes on Bobby Lashley after Becky Lynch and Doudrop decide the women’s belt.

In the mixed tag team match, Edge and Beth Phoenix unite in a bid to defeat The Miz and Maryse. The spare fight on the bill is a singles match for the WWE Universal Championship between Roman Reigns and Seth Rollins.

It was hoped that Brock Lesnar and Roman Reigns would get it on in a winner takes all champion versus champion match but, unfortunately for the fans, that hasn’t materialised. It is not yet clear if the entire possibility of the bout was the usual rumours seen on the approach to the Royal Rumble or if one fighter backed out, happy to go forward in another direction.

Former champions reject an invitation

The process of securing the Royal Rumble line-up hasn’t gone completely to plan with rumours rife that two famous fighters – former champions, no less – have rejected an invitation to take part in the action and that news has rocked some fans. You may remember the popular women’s tag team The IInspiration. There were suggestions they could be about to make a guest appearance in St Louis but that now looks unlikely with both fighters said to have rejected the invite.

The former WWE Tag Team champions are now under contract at IMPACT and thought better of taking up a spot at the Royal Rumble, preferring to stick to their interests in IMPACT, including upcoming fight dates. It wasn’t made clear the role both fighters would have played in the evening’s entertainment and although some fans would have been taken aback by the refusal of IInspiration, the show must go on.

Their absence won’t spoil what promises to be a gripping evening of professional wrestling and as any experienced fan already knows, we are in for a rollercoaster of emotions as some of the sport’s biggest prizes are decided. Every fight will be played out live on television with the action shown on popular pay per view channels and live streaming apps across the world. WWE has always attracted a global audience, but interest levels have never been as high as they are today.
