FTR VS. THE ROCK N' ROLL EXPRESS FOR THE FIRST TIME, JERRY LAWLER VS. GEORGE SOUTH & MORE: 1/22 BIG TIME WRESTLING IN SPARTANBURG, SC LIVE REPORT

By Robert Truesdale on 2022-01-23 13:55:00

Big Time Wrestling's presentation of FTR VS. R'N'R, held January 22, 2022 at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium in Spartanburg, South Carolina.

- A special meet & greet was held prior to the event with fans having an opportunity to interact with talent.

- Ring announcer Patrick Kuhn came to the ring (to a chorus of boos from the audience - he would receive this reception all night) and hyped the crowd, building energy for the introduction of the event which was streamed live to the rest of the world via internet pay-per-view. Kuhn welcomed the fans back with this being the first BTW event in 2 years.

- Officials for the event: Katrina Krize and Jarrod C. Fritz

- Estimated attendance: 1,200

1) Scotty 2 Hotty def. Teddy Goodz (announced as representing Cojo's Toy World)

2) Brock Anderson (w/"The Enforcer" Arn Anderson) def. Lodi

3)"Big Papa Pump" Scott Steiner def. Dirty Joe (w/Mr. TA)

4) "Big Money" Matt Hardy (announced as representing the Hardy Family Office) def. "Dynamite" Danny Miles

- Hardy involved aspects of every iteration of his career during the match, from his trademark offense as a member of the Hardy Boys to leading chants of "DELETE!"

5) Stipulation Match - Jerry "The King" Lawler def. "Mr. #1" George South

- The special stipulation for the match saw both men putting up possession of a prized item. If South won he would get Lawler's crown, and if Lawler won he would get South's ring jacket from the Crockett era of Mid-Atlantic Wrestling (which South stated was given to him by Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat). After the match, South attacked Lawler from behind and assaulted Referee Krize, snatching the jacket from Lawler then leaving the ringside area.

6) FTR (Dax Harwood & Cash Wheeler) def. The Rock 'n' Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)

- This bout was the first in what is to be a farewell tour for The Rock 'n' Roll Express, as they will be retiring from competing as a duo. Ricky Morton announced earlier this year his future plans are to focus on teaming with his son, Kerry.

- After the match, Harwood spoke candidly about the influence Morton & Gibson have had on the career of he and Wheeler, stating that they owe their livelihood to them. Morton then addressed the crowd, thanking them for the years of support, stating that there would not be a Rock 'n' Roll Express without them.
