OKADA & TANAHASHI & NAGATA HEADLINE: 1/20 NJPW NEW YEAR'S GOLDEN SERIES RESULTS FROM TOKYO, JAPAN

By James Kurokawa on 2022-01-21 03:38:00

1/20/22 Results from New Japan’s New Years Golden Series  - Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan:

1 - Yuto Nakashima vs. Great O-Khan

O-Khan wins by submission with a cross arm breaker.

No Ospreay, Cobb or Henare.  United Empire will be taking a break for the next month.

2 - Ryohei Oiwa vs. Hiromu Takahashi

Hiromu forces Oiwa to tap out to a Boston Crab.

3 - Taiji Ishimori and Jado vs. Tiger Mask and Togi Makabe

Tiger Mask forces Jado to tap out to an arm submission.

No Robbie Eagles or El Phantasmo.  They both will be involved for the IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Title belts later in February.

4 - Toru Yano, Tomoaki Honma and Satoshi Kojima vs. Minoru Suzuki, TAKA Michinoku and Taichi

Kojima pins TAKA after a big lariat.

After the match, Yano handcuffs Suzuki to the ropes.  Yano is proud of himself and goes back to the locker room.   The referee unlocks Suzuki and gets beaten up for it.  Suzuki was pissed.

5 - Master Wato, Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. El Desperado, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and DOUKI

Wato submitted DOUKI with a Vendaval (Headscissors crucifix choke).

Wato held onto the hold after the bell rang.  Desperado got pissed about that and came after Wato.   Wato pushed back and they had to be broken up by the other wrestlers.

Wato shows his aggressive side.  The build to his IWGP Jr. Heavyweight title match against Desperado should be good.

6 - Tomohiro Ishii, YOH, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. EVIL, SHO, Yujiro Takahashi and Dick Togo

Ishii pins Togo after hitting a brainbuster.

Good match.  YOSHI-HASHI and Goto are continuing to gel as a tag team.  CHAOS will be looking to take the NEVER belts from House if Torture in the coming weeks.

7 - Shingo Takagi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. Yuji Nagata, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Kazuchika Okada

Naito pins Nagata after a Destino.

When SANADA paired off against Tanahashi, they had a good back and forth.  I am looking forward to their IWGP U.S. Title match.

With this first show after Wrestle Kingdom, title matches have been set throughout February on this tour.   The next big show will be February 20 in Hokkaido when Kazuchika Okada defends the IWGP World Title against Tetsuya Naito.

Thanks for reading.
