Game Changer Wrestling returned to Chicago, IL with Say You Will, featuring the following results:
*Gringo Loco won a Scramble match over Alex Zayne, Dante Leon, Nick Wayne, Ninja Mack and The Dark Sheik. Ninja Mack is going to end up one of the most talked about aerial talents in a few years as everything he does it either insanely fun or potentially self-destructive. Like last night, this was just an insane collection of sequences and highspots.
*Tony Deppen defeated Speedball Mike Bailey in a tremendously athletic back and forth, hard hitting bout. This was Bailey's debut with the promotion since he's legally allowed to enter the United States again after signing with Impact.
*Blake Christian pinned Bandido. In a ridiculously unplanned, insane moment, Bandido accidentally took out a fan while hitting a dive on Christian and while out on the floor, the fan started chanting GCW. This was a fun back and forth bout with a bit of a surprise to see Bandido, who has claimed to still be the ROH Champion losing clean.
*ROH Champion Jonathan Gresham defeated 2 Cold Scorpio. Some nice early back and forth wrestling. Blake Christian joined Dave Prazak on commentary as he's wrestling Gresham on the GCW PPV next week. The crowd was chanting back and forth "2 Cold" and "Gresham" from the start. Gresham tied up Scorpio on the mat early on, showcasing his work as a pure wrestler. Scorpio leaned into Gresham's style, grappling back and forth until having enough and kicking at Gresham's knee. They battled back and forth until Scorp rocked Gresham with a hard slap to the face and then a backhanded fist. Gresham tried to take the fight to the larger Scorpio but was struck down to the mat with hard chops. Scorp kept enforcing his will with hard shots to the face. He nailed a flipping legdrop off the ropes for a two count. Gresham made a comeback with several German suplexes. Gresham climbed on his face for sleeper but was slammed off. Scorp went for an inverted suplex but Gresham again clamped on a sleeper. They crashed into the corner with both out on their feet. Scorp called for a 450 splash but was yanked down in a rear naked choke and Gresham put him to sleep. A really solid bout. They showed each other respect after the bout.
Blake Christian hit the face and faced off with Gresham. They shook hands before Gresham exited the ring.
*AJ Gray defeated PCO to become the new GCW Extreme Champion. All the big crazy spots you'd expect from a PCO bout including the flip bump onto the apron that scares the hell out of me every time. PCO chokeslammed Gray onto a chair. He went to the top but was slammed off into a pile of chairs at another point. PCO placed Gray across two chairs and attempted to moonsault onto him but Gray escaped so PCO crashed and burned. Gray kept nailing PCO with lariat after lariat before finally taking him down after the 5th or 6th. Lot of big spots here with the end result being Gray being built up leading into Hammersten next week
*Ricky Morton pinned Matt Cardona with a surprise rollup. Before the bout, Cardona did a promo crapping on Paul Heyman and ECW and threw the "ECW TV title" in a trash can to get heat. Gresham and Chelsea Green came out wearing "Chelsea 4:69" shirts. Cardona had some Chicago inspired gear as well to mock the fans. Morton is absolutely over in the beloved legend role. Cardona pretended to put over Morton after, but Chelsea low blowed him. Cardona attacked and was beating down Morton after the bout but Joey Janela made the save. Janela was at the AEW tapings in Orlando this afternoon and rushed to Chicago as a surprise.
*Allie Katch defeated Kylie Rae. Rae heeled it up quite a bit here. After the match, Jeff Jarrett, doing his Johnny Cash deal, showed up and El Kabong'ed Katch when she didn't see it coming with the idea her tag team partner EFFY wasn't there as he was booked in Georgia. There is no way Jarrett vs. EFFY isn't happening next weekend.
*GCW Tag Team Champions The Briscoes defeated The Rejects, Reed Bentley & John Wayne Murdoch in a crazy brawl after a Jay-Driler and Froggy Bow on Bentley. Jay was bleeding heavily. The usual insane physical nuttiness you'd expect from this as they battled all over. The Briscoes issued an open challenge for anyone for next week at Hammerstein, so naturally that means everyone will expect FTR. Whether that happens or not remains to be seen. One of the real silver linings to come out of the ROH hiatus is the Briscoes being unleashed as they have been nothing short of awesome in GCW.
*The main event was a death match dedicated to the late Markus Crane featuring Jimmy Lloyd beating Alex Colon & "Spyder" Nate Webb. Lots of weapons and crazy violence, as you can imagine. Webb was a replacement for SHLAK, who was advertised as the third competitor. Lots of light tubes. Lots of chants for Crane, who was from the area. Webb took a scary suiplex bump. LLoyd nailed a Canadian Destroyer off the ropes through a light tube bundle for the pin. Bit of a surprise to see Colon taking the loss here.
Detroit was the hotter show by far in terms of crowd response but this had a lot of good, solid wrestling, a great main event and some angles to lead to Hammerstein Ballroom next week. GCW 100% has the ball and we'll see how far they run with it in NYC next weekend.
