RIHO VS. BRITT, INTERIM TNT CHAMP CROWNED & MORE: AEW BATTLE OF THE BELTS COVERAGE

It is Saturday in the Bojangles Coliseum in Charlotte North Carolina and it's time for the first AEW Battle of the Belts special.

Our commentary team is Jim Ross, Excalibur and Tony Schiavone.

Dustin Rhodes vs Sammy Guevara for the interim TNT Title

Dustin comes to the ring with Arn Anderson. David Crockett is at ringside as well.

Dustin and Sammy shake hands. They run the rtopes, Dustin gets an arm drag and Sammy gets a hip toss before going to opposite corners. Sammy locks on a headlock and Dustin pushes off, then asks for a pause and takes a breather. They go back tot he rope running and Sammy is able to bring Dustin down and roll him up for a two count.

Sammy is able to take Dustin to the floor and they brawl on the outside of the ring. Dustin gets the better of Sammy, slamming Sammy's knee into the rign steps and then piledriving Sammy onto the floor. Dustin rolls into the ring and the count begins.

Sammy dives into the ring and Dustin covers for a two count as we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, they are throwing hands in the middle of the ring. Dustin hits a power slam and covers Sammy for a two count. Dustin tosses Sammy to the corner and mounts for the teen punches. Dustin tosses Sammy across the ring and goes for a monkey flip, but Sammy pushes him off and nails him with a clothesline. Dustin rolls to the outside, slowing the pace again. The count begins again.

Sammy does the two rope leap onto Dustin. Sammy tosses Dustin into the ring and hobbles into the ring. Sammy nails a series of kicks, then does the double rope jump and Dustin nails a cross roads on Sammy for a two count. Both men are down and the count begins again. Dustin is up first. When Sammy is up, they go to the corner and Dustin hits a Code Red for a two count. Dustin slowly goes to the top, and Sammy is up and grab Dustin for the GTH. Sammy covers for the two.

Fuego Del Sol comes out from under the ring and pulls out a table that he sets up at ringside. Arn Anderson chases him off, and Sammy and Dustin struggle on the apron next to the table. Dustin hits a destroyer on Sammy through the table.

Dustin rolls Sammy into the ring and covers for a two count. Dustin hits two cross roads. Dustin sets up for the Tiger Driver, but takes too long, and Sammy hits him with a kick. Dustin hits a kick and they both clothesline each other and both are down. When they get up, the roll each other up for two counts until Sammy is able to hold on for the three count and the win.

Dustin and Sammy shake hands, but Daniel Garcia comes into the ring and he and Sammy go out at it, only to be pulled apart by referees as we go to commercial.

We get a video package from the champions not on tonight show. Sammy is with Tony Schiavone challenging Daniel Garcia.

 

Taz joins the announce team as we get the next match.

Ricky Starks (FTW Champion) vs Matt Sydal

They go face to face and Matt hits a series of slaps, strikes and kicks for a one count. Matt then hits a roll up for a two count. Starks gets a round kick, but Matt is able to kick him out of the ring. Matt goes to attack Starks on the floor, but Powerhouse Hobbs stands in his way. They go to picture in picture where Starks gets his comeback, but his' limping due to they attacks on his hamstrings.

When we come back, Starks is clothes lining Matt and drops him with a uranage for a tow count. Matt gets in a series of kick and a sliding knee strike on Starks in the corner. They go to the top and Matt escapes and hits a Hurancanrana and a Michinoku driver for a two count. Starks picks up Matt for the Rochambeau, but his leg gives out, allowing Matt to escape and deliver another kick.

Matt tries for a crucifix, but instead hits the lightning spiral for a two count. Matt goes to the top and hits the Meteroa, covers and Starks makes it to the ropes on two. They run the ropes and Starks hits the speak, the Rochambeau, and covers for the three.

Powerhouse Hobbs get the ring and they start the beat down on Matt. Lee Moriarty runs to the ring to help and gets taken out. Dante Martin runs to the ring and when he is able to take Hobbs down, Team Taz retreats.

We get a video package about the main event.  AEW is just so good with these packages, setting up the story between the two in less than two minutes.

Britt Baker (AEW Champion) vs Riho

Before the match, when Baker hands the belt to Rebel, she hands it to Jamie Hayter who lays it on the ground, showing her and Baker are still having issues

Riho and Baker lock up to no avail, and go back to stalking each other. Rebel grabs Riho's boot and Riho shakes her off. Hayter does the same thing, and this time Baker attacks Riho. Riho is able to take Baker down, nails a kick and Baker rolls out of the ring. Riho dives out fo the ring at Baker, who shoves Rebel in the way. Baker hits a sling blade on Riho on the floor. Baker and Hayter have words, as Hayter pulls a table out. Riho hits a dragon suplex on Baker and then kicks the table into Hayter.

Riho tosses Baker into the ring and follows up with a shotgun drop kick off the top. She charges into Baker, who catches him and slams her into the turnbuckle and we go to picture in picture.

When we return to full screen, Baker has been in control the whole time. Riho is able to land a double foot stomp on Baker for a two count. They throw hands in the middle fo the ring and the fight goes to the corner. Riho goes for a suplex, and can't do it, but Riho is able to drop Baker to the ropes and get the tiger fade kick and a two count.

Riho gets a bridge submission hold but Baker makes to the ropes. Riho goes to the top and Baker is pulled out fo the way by Rebel. Riho instead nails Rebel with the double foot stomp. Riho goes for it again but misses the foot stomp. Baker hits the rip cord and the air raid crash for a two count. Baker goes to the corner and gets the Glove.

Riho is up and they trade elbow strikes. Baker counters the dragon suplex and takes Riho down and is trying to get the lock jaw on. Riho makes it to the ropes for the break. Baker rolls Riho the center and reverses Bakers hold for a two count. Baker hits a curb stomp for a two count. Hayter tosses the belt into the ring. Rebel hands it to Baker, and the ref tosses Rebel. Hayter gets on the apron to argue with Baker, and Riho takes advantage for a crucifix bomb and a northern lights suplex into a bridge for a two count.

Riho charges Baker and Baker drops her with a pump kick. Baker gets another curb stomp for a two count and Baker locks in the lockjaw and Riho has to tap out.

Your winner and still AEW Champion, Britt Baker.

Rebel goes to hand the belt to Baker, but Hayter grabs it from her and hands it to Baker. All three hug and we're desperately out of time!
