I hope you and yours have a wonderful New Year's Eve and next year is when this COVID crap finally reaches it's end...although I don't mind the "hero pay" I have been getting at the group home for working during this pandemic.
Onto Rampage
It is Friday New Year’s Eve and it’s time for the Rampage part of New Year’s Smash from Daly’s Plaza in Jacksonville Florida, taped Wednesday night after Dynamite. Our commentary team is Excalibur, Tony Schiavone, and Ricky Starks,
Darby Allin vs. Anthony Bowens
Each have their tag team partners at ringside. They circle each other to start the match and Darby dodges a grab from Bowens. They then move to waist locks and head locks. Bowens calls for the test of strength and when Darby locks up, Bowens trips him and goes for a pin, but Darby powers up to his feet. When Darby takes Bowens down, he gets a one count before Bowens kicks out and rolls to the outside to regroup.
Bowens comes in and hits slaps, chops and kicks on Allin into the corner, where he works Allin over. Allin is able to leap over Bowens in the corner, and they run the ropes. Allin is able to take Bowens down and Max Caster gets on the ring and shouts at Allin, who doesn’t turn to be distracted and instead flips him off. They resume running the ropes, and when Bowens dodges, Allin runs into Castr, knocking him to the floor.
Bowens takes advantage of this and knocks Allin out of the ring and then tosses him into the ringpost as we go picture in picture.
When they return to full screen, Dabry has been beat down by Bowens the whole break. Allin starts his comeback, but Bowens cuts him off. Allin dodges a charge from Bowens, and gets a series of two counts on Bowens. Allin is cut off with a series of back elbows and chops from Bwoens. They both are on the mat, as Bowens’s collapsed. He crawls over and covers Allin for a two count.
They work to their feet, and Bowens keeps up the pressure, works Allin to the corner and they go to the top. Allin fights his way free and drops Bowens and starts to set up for the coffin drop, but Bowens cuts him off and does a stalled DDT with Allin hanging from the turnbuckle. Bowens goes to cover, but gets on the ropes, and the ref stops the count. Bowens didn’t need his feet on the ropes and Allin is out of it. Bowens goes to the top, dragging Allin with him. Allin is able to and Bowens’s shoulder through the ropes into the buckles. He then stands on Bowens’s hand on the top of the post.
Bowens drops to the floor when Allin releases the hold. Allin goes for a dive, but Max gets on the apron to top him. Sting grabs Max’s foot and yanks him down to the floor. Sting then tosses Max into the barricade and Bowens does the same to Allin and then drops him on the apron. Bowens tosses Aloin into the ring and Bowens and Sting have words. Bowens enters the ring and Allin hits a Cody red and a two count. Bowens rolls from the ring and Allin leaps into him and Max.
Darby rolls him into the ring, hits the coffin drop and covers for the three count.
Your winner: Darby Allin
The music for Andrade El Idolo hits and he comes from the entryway, and the Acclaim blindside Sting and nail him with the boombox, and then they attack Allin with a chain.
We then have a Technique Video from Taz breaking down Hook’s moves.
Bunny and Penelope Ford vs Tay Conti and Anna Jay in a Street Fight
They all bring plunder to the ring, and Bunny puts on the brass knuckles immediately. Anna and Tay take out their opponents and the fight goes to the floor where Anna and Tay set up a table. Tay is put on the table and Ford hits a moonsault knee drop on her and the table does not break.
Ford then brings out a glass bottle and smashes it into Tay’s head in the middle of the ring. Bunny has been busted open by the brass knuckles Anna took from her. Bunny and Ford pulls out a table with brass knuckles painted on it and Tay is also busted open. Bunny and Ford set up chairs in the ring. Bunny drags Anna into the ring.
After we come back from the commercial, Anna is going for the Queenslayer, but Bunny falls backward, butting them both through the table Ford had set up in the ring. Bunny goes for a pin and only gets a two count. Bunny is wearing the crimson mask. Outside the ring, Ford pulls out a ladder, and Tay grabs her and they both get dropped onto the ladder.
Bunny grabs a bag of thumbtacks and pours it out on the apron. Anna has recovered and drives Bunny into the corner. They brawl on the top and it’s a superplex with Bunny taking the brunt of the thumbtacks, but Anna got some as well. Anna covers Bunny, but Ford breaks it up, diving into the tacks. Tay attacks Ford, and gives her the Tay stomp. Tay is bloody as well, and then hits a Gotch Style piledriver from the apron to the table and THIS TIME the table breaks.
Bunny puts on the brass knucks again, and she slips, doing the splits into the thumb tacks. Anna now has barbed wire wrapped around her arm and locks in the Queenslayer with the barbed wire and Bunny has to tap out.
Your winners: Anna Jay and Tay Conti
MUCH more brutal and bloody than I expected (and more than was needed), but everyone involved in this match was tough. I don’t like these matches, but I do have to give it to all four for going for a brutal end to this feud.
We get a video recap of the feud between Bryan Danielson and Adam Page for their rematch next Wednesday. Really looking forward to this.
We have the segment where Mark Henry interviews our combatants, and then the time for talking is over. It’s time for the Main Event!
Cody Rhodes (TNT Champion) vs Ethan Page
Cody brings out the Nightmare Family for his Elaborate Entrance while Ethan Page lays down and acts like he’s taking a nap.
Cody is still being booed, and Cody is wearing his ``Heel, Face, Winner” shirt, so he is leaning into the crowd booing him. Page then works Cody over. Arn grabs Page’s foot and that gives Cody the break to work over Page. Cody works over Page on the apron as the crowd chants Let’s Go Cody/Cody Sucks. Page sees he is distracted and drops down to escape the cross roads and attacks Cody, knocking him to the floor. Page tosses him into the post and works him over on the floor.
They roll into the ring and Cody hits a chop block and works over Page’s leg before putting on the Indian Death Lock as they go picture in picture.
When they return full screen, Cody has whipped off one of Page’s knee pads and kept working over the leg on the small screen. Cody even broke out the pushups while Page was laying on the mat. Cody is working heel as he goes after Page’s leg being ruthless and almost enjoying his work. Page is able to get a front face slam on Cody and then hits a shoulder block into Cody as they run the ropes.
Page is taking over, limping, with back body drop and other moves. Page flips off Arn Anderson and hits a DDT on Cody for a two count. Cody rolls out of the ring and Scorpio Sky attacks him on the floor. Dustin Rhodes pulls Sky off and they fight into the crowd. Cody rolls into the ring, hits a full nelson crossroads for a two count.
Cody then kneels on his leg and pulls off the knee brace. Arn signals for Cody to hit a super plex. They go to the top, and Page is able to get a few shots, puts Cody over his shoulder and hits a power slam on Cody. He gets a two count before Cody kicks out because his knee keeps him from holding the pin. They get to their feet and throw hands in the middle of the ring. It then moves to kicks. Cody gets a Cody Cutter after escaping a slam for a two count.
Cody gives a “Woo!” and locks in the figure four in the middle of the ring. Page is able to roll over and reverse the hold. Cody makes it to the ropes for the break. Cody hits a double underhook, but Page reverses for the jack knife and a two count. They brawl to the corner and Page drags Cody off the top with an arm bar, holding onto the wrist. Page sets up for the Ego’s Edge, but Cody escapes, hits the Cross Roads, and then hits it again, then a Tiger Driver 98 for the cover and the pin.
