Tracking USPS shipments is easy. In fact, United States Postal Services customers find out about their packages from different partners, but mainly DHL. It is a simple way to track and monitor shipments both domestically and internationally. This viable solution is especially useful for smaller businesses shipping from the United States.
Tracking orders or packages with USPS is simple. The easiest way is to use the provider's direct Track & Confirm tool. This involves entering the tracking number in the appropriate field on the USPS tracking website. The status and location of the shipment can then be viewed directly. In this way, tracking is possible both from the local PC and via smartphone. Alternatively, the status can be accessed by phone, text message or via the USPS mobile app.
Basically, the USPS tracking number is sufficient for tracking a shipment. However, every now and then it makes sense to store your phone number. This way, the individual methods can be used more reliably. The following status values are usually displayed.
The so-called Pre-Shipment Info usually contains the information "USPS Awaiting item". This means that the item has already been announced electronically. As manifest shipment information, it tells the sender that the package will soon be picked up by the shipper. However, the shipment is not yet in the hands of USPS at this point. Rather, it informs that the shipper is ready to hand it over to the company providing service.
Once the shipment is received by the Postal Service, the status changes. It is updated from pre-shipment to "unit arrival." At this point, an initial estimated delivery date can be established. In most cases, the item will be placed in delivery directly on the same day.
Understanding these tracking statuses, especially the commonly seen but often confusing 'shipment received, package acceptance pending' status, is crucial for senders and recipients. This status typically appears when the USPS has received the shipment information from the sender but is yet to physically receive and scan the package into their system. However, for this to happen, the package must arrive at the local post office by 9:30 am. If this is not the case, it can only go into delivery on the next working day. At this point, however, a distinction is made between other status values:
Arrived at the facility or left: The shipment has been sorted and assigned to the respective postal code.
Customs clearance: Packages that are first inspected by customs are given this status before they finally move into delivery.
Received by Customs: This status indicates that Customs has forwarded the shipment to the USPS partner.
In Transit to next facility: The package is on its way to its next stopover. Especially if long distances are covered for delivery, it takes longer for the status value to change.
The status "ready for delivery" means that the package has reached the delivery service. Alternatively, the status value can also be "in delivery". If the shipment has reached this status, it almost always means that the package will be delivered to the recipient on the same day. Usually, an approximate delivery time is given in the form of a delivery period. However, whether the package can be tracked live at this time depends on the delivery company itself.
As soon as the shipment is handed over to the recipient, it is given the status "delivered". However, this does not always require direct handover. Instead, the delivery can be made available at a drop-off location or handed over to a neighbor.
If something has gone wrong, the USPS congestion is set to "Warning". It usually means that the delivery was attempted but was not possible. The reason could be, for example, that the delivery location was not available or the recipient was not at home.
