WWE-MADISON SQUARE GARDEN NOTES AND NEWS, PRE-SALE CODE

By Mike Johnson on 2021-12-27 09:47:00

Some WWE-Madison Square Garden notes from last night's event:

*This was Damian Priest's MSG debut, so he not only performed in the venue for the first time but the native New Yorker got to close the show by hitting the ring to rescue Edge in the main event.  Priest couldn't have asked for a bigger moment in his hometown.

*Jason Jordan and Shane Helms produced the live event.  There were changes to the lineup all day and the final lineup was put together within 90 minutes of the card starting.

*Last night was Edge's first house show match since his official return to the company as an in-ring performer.  Edge's match against Kevin Owens was the first-ever bout between the two.  Edge was called Christmas Eve and asked to come work the event.

*Despite all the changes, there were no negative responses from the fans in the building to missing talents.

*Last night was the first time MSG ever hosted two steel cage matches.  It was the first-ever Cage bout for the Street Profits and Riddle's first-ever Cage match within WWE as he had been in one in 2016 for Beyond Wrestling.

*The WWE NXT Championship was defended for the first time inside Madison Square Garden last night with Tommaso Ciampa defeating Pete Dunne.  While NXT talents had appeared in MSG before, this was the first title defense for the brand in the building.  The match received multiple NXT chants.

*Natalya was shifted to the Raw live event at the last second as they needed a heel to wrestle Rhea Ripley and Nikki A.S.H.  She was initially slated for the Smackdown side of the tour.

*T-Bar made his MSG debut last night.

*Kevin Owens beat up three Christmas inflatables that were situated at the entrance during the opening segment of the show, forever securing his place in the villainy Hall of Fame.  This was the second 12/26 Post-Christmas event in a row Owens headlined at the Garden.  He wrestled Seth Rollins in a No Holds Barred match in the 2019 edition.

*The online pre-sale code to the 3/5 Road to Wrestlemania Tour in MSG is WWEMSG.

*Exclusive merchandise sold at the show last night included a NYC 3:16 t-shirt with the font in a New York Knicks-inspired orange, a Bianca Belair Holiday tour pin, and a Becky Lynch "The Man is in New York" shirt.

*Mike Rome handled the ring announcing.
