12/23 NJPW ROAD TO TOKYO DOME AT KORAKUEN HALL REPORT

By James Kurokawa on 2021-12-23 17:52:00

12/23/21 Results of New Japan's Road to Tokyo Dome from Korakuen Hall, Tokyo, Japan:

Master Wato and Ryusuke Taguchi vs. Ryohei Oiwa and Yuto Nakashima

Wato forces Nakashima to tap out to a Boston Crab.

Kosei Fujita, YOSHI-HASHI and Hirooki Goto vs. TAKA Michinoku, Zack Sabre Jr. and Taichi

Suzuki-Gun attacks at the bell. They all battle in and out of the ring.

TAKA forced Fujita to tap to the Just Facelock.

CHAOS posed with their World Tag League Trophies and Dangerous Tekkers held up their Tag Titles.   Both teams exchanged heated words as they went back to the locker room.

Yuji Nagata and Toru Yano vs. Minoru Suzuki and Yoshinobu Kanemaru

Suzuki-Gun attacked Yano and Nagata as they were emerging from the locker.  Nagata and Suzuki hit each other with nasty shots.  Kanemaru hit Yano in the head with the Suntori whiskey bottle.  He took Yano down and tried to pour whiskey down his mouth.  The referee disqualified Suzuki-Gun.

Yano and Nagata win.

Note:  At the start of the pandemic, New Japan stopped their wrestlers from spraying liquid from their mouths.  Yano, BUSHI and Kanemaru would spit water, alcohol or colored liquid during their entrances.  With this whiskey storyline, it seems like they are backing off that rule for some wrestlers, or just being more careful with what liquid they are using.

YOH, Satoshi Kojima, Hiroyoshi Tenzan and Tomohiro Ishii vs. SHO, Dick Togo, Yujiro Takahashi and EVIL

Tenzan had Togo in the Anaconda Vice.  EVIL took the NEVER Title belt into ring.  Tenzan let go of the hold and EVIL hit him in the head.

Togo pins Tenzan.

After the match, SHO tried to hit Ishii with his wrench, but YOH makes the save by superkicking SHO and EVIL.  Ishii grabs his NEVER belt and steps on the eye of the fallen EVIL. EVIL screams as Ishii smashes his face.

Ishii vs. EVIL at Wrestle Kingdom will be a brutal fight.

Tiger Mask, Robbie Eagles, Tomoaki Honma, Kazuchika Okada and Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. El Phantasmo, Taiji Ishimori, Chase Owens, Bad Luck Fale and KENTA

Owens pins Honma with a Package Piledriver.

After the match, KENTA attacks Tanahashi with a chair.  Okada, Eagles and Tanahashi are left laying on the floor as officials run to help.  Chase Owens gives KENTA a look and points at his IWGP U.S. Heavyweight Title.  Owens is still owed a shot at the title after he beat Tanahashi in the G1 Climax.   As they were getting Tanahashi to his feet, KENTA came running and hit a Psycho Knee, taking out Tanahashi and the young lions who were helping him.

Shingo Takagi, SANADA and Tetsuya Naito vs. Aaron Henare, Great O-Khan and Jeff Cobb

Takagi pins Henare with Made in Japan.

O-Khan and Cobb attack some young lions after the match, while Naito taunts them both

This was a good match.   United Empire pairs well with LIJ which always leads to competitive matches.  Cobb and O-Khan were not pinned so they still look strong ahead of Wrestle Kingdom.   Shingo got the pin because he is the Champ.

BUSHI and Hiromu Takahashi vs. DOUKI and El Desperado

Hiromu and Desperado exchanged near falls till the bell rang.

Both teams wrestle to a draw.

Desperado and Hiromu scream at each other in the ring, while they butt heads.

Interesting way to end this good match, with both men as equals.

Stay tuned for tomorrow's final New Japan event before Wrestle Kingdom.
