NJPW STRONG REPORT

Match Number One: Bateman and Misterioso versus Adrian Quest and Lio Rush

Quest and Bateman start things off. They lock up and Bateman sends Quest to the mat. Bateman misses a boot and Quest with a forearm. Bateman applauds Quest. Bateman lets Quest get in a shot and Quest with a forearm. Quest does the same and Bateman has the chop blocked and Quest with a springboard arm drag and a head scissors that sends Bateman into the turnbuckles. Quest with a springboard round kick and forearm. Quest with more forearms but Bateman with a double thrust to the throat. Bateman with a forearm and he chokes Quest. Misterioso tags in.

Quest with a kick to Bateman and he sends Misterioso to the apron. Quest sends Bateman into Misterioso to send them both to the floor. Rush tags in. Rush with a handspring kick to knock Misterioso off the apron. Quest with a baseball slide to Bateman and then Rush and Quest with stereo suicide dives. Rush gets a near fall. Misterioso misses a splash and Quest tags in and hits a forearm. Rush with a rollup and then Rush and Quest with kicks for a near fall.

Quest with a forearm but Misterioso with a kick and he sends Quest to the apron. Quest with a springboard head scissors. Misterioso sends Quest face first to the mat and this a clothesline for a near fall. Misterioso with another near fall. Misterioso with chops and Bateman tags in. Bateman with punches and an elbow drop for a near fall. Bateman with forearms and Quest with forearms and chops. Bateman pushes Quest to the mat and then Irish whips Quest. Quest goes for a cross body but Bateman catches Quest and sends him face first to the mat. Misterioso with forearms. Bateman rakes the eyes while the referee deals with Rush. Bateman tags in and he connects with an elbow. Misterioso with a kick and Bateman with a side slam and Misterioso with a hesitation slingshot splash.

Bateman with a forearm and Misterioso tags in and kicks Quest. Misterioso gets Quest up and hits an accordion slam. Quest gets his feet up when Misterioso goes for a quebrada. Quest with a springboard poisonrana. Rush tags in. Bateman flips Rush and then Rush lands on his feet and hits a handspring kick. Rush with an enzuigiri to Misterioso. Rush with a kick to Bateman and he tries for a suplex but Bateman blocks it. Bateman with a kick and rolling elbow. Rush with a Falcon Arrow for a near fall. Rush goes up top and misses a frog splash but he rolls through. Misterioso with kicks and an Irish whip into a boot from Bateman. Bateman with a brainbuster slam for a near fall.

Misteroso tags in and they go for a double belly-to-back suplex but Rush lands on his feet. Quest tags in and Rush with a drop kick to Bateman. Quest with a springboard drop kick to Misterioso followed by a rollup for a near fall. Quest with a rana for a near fall. Misterioso with a Finlay slam and a moonsault for a near fall. Rush with a forearm and Misteroso gets Rush on his shoulders but Rush escapes and hits a spinning heel kick. Rush with a slingshot cutter and then Rush with an Asai Moonsault onto Bateman. Quest with a Phoenix Splash for the three count.

Winners: Adrian Quest and Lio Rush

 

Match Number Two: Josh Barnett versus Alex Coughlin

Barnett goes for the leg and Alex escapes. Josh with a kick to the leg and they lock up. Josh takes Alex to the mat and Barnett gets a near fall. Alex escapes and gets back to his feet. They think about a test of strength but Alex backs off. They have a Greco Roman knuckle lock and Josh with the advantage and Alex bridges to get back to a neutral point and he gets Josh to the mat and Alex wit a side head lock.

Barnett gets to a mount position and he goes for the knee but Alex gets to the ropes. They lock up and Alex with a take down. Alex with a head lock into a side head lock. Barnett escapes and goes for the knee. Alex goes for the ankle but Josh has Alex’s ankle. Both men with heel hooks but Josh with a single leg crab until Alex gets to the ropes to force a break.

They lock up and Barnett with a belly-to-belly suplex. Barnett with a head lock. Alex with a head scissors. Alex goes for the ankle and he goes for an Indian Death Lock. Barnett escapes and he goes for a cross arm breaker but Alex locks his hands. Alex with a heel hook and Barnett gets to the ropes. Barnett with forearms and a front face lock suplex for a near fall. Barnett with another front face lock suplex. Barnett tries for the cross arm breaker again but Alex blocks it and rolls up Josh for a near fall. Alex with a single leg crab. Alex gets to the ropes when Josh reverses.

Alex slaps Josh and Josh with a forearm. Josh with more forearms to Alex. Alex with a forearm and Josh with forearms that send Alex to the mat. Barnett goes for a Doctor Bomb but Alex blocks it. Alex with a gutwrench suplex and he holds on and hits another one. Alex with a clothesline for a near fall. Alex goes for a single leg crab but Josh kicks Alex in the head. Josh with a German suplex and bridge for a near fall.

Josh with a T-Bone suplex and then he applies a knee bar and rolls Alex over and it forces Alex to tap out.

Winner: Josh Barnett

After the match, Barnett takes the mic. He asks Alex to stand up. Josh says it has been 17 years since he has been in a ring with the lion mark. Do you want to know what brought me back? You. I was asked by someone who trained you to train you. Josh says he said it would be his honor. Shibata-san has done an amazing job with you and all of the L.A. Dojo guys.

It has been two years since you stepped into the ring in my gym. I saw the gusto, the gut, and the grit to make someone not a young lion but a hungry leader of the pride and that is you Coughlin. He tells Alex to soak in the cheers because he earned it. This is a different Josh Barnett than you are used to. I would be honored to have you in my army any day. You can take on anybody in the world. You are the real deal.

Josh says now that he has shown it in the ring, I will see you in the gym to make sure you are the toughest on the planet.

Alex gets to his knees and shakes Josh’s hand.

Match Number Three: Jonah versus Lucas Riley

Riley with a waist lock and Jonah sends Riley to the mat with a hip lock. Jonah power bombs Riley into the ropes. Riley with a side head lock and kick. Riley goes for a leap frog and bounces off Jonah. Jonah with a punch and chop. Riley with punches and they have no effect. Jonah with a head butt and chops.

Jonah sets for a delayed vertical suplex and throws Riley to the mat. Riley with chops but Jonah with a forearm to stop Riley. Jonah chokes Riley in the corner. Jonah with an Irish whip and Riley floats over and connects wit forearms but Jonah with a forearm and Riley goes to the ropes and hits a springboard drop kick. Jonah blocks a head scissors take down. Riley with forearms and knees.

Jonah with a clothesline. Jonah with a Saito suplex and then he pulls Riley up before the three count. Jonah with a back senton and then he picks Riley up again on the cover. Jonah goes to the turnbuckles and hits a frog splash for the three count.

Winner: Jonah

After the match, David Finlay comes out and attacks Jonah and drop kicks Jonah to the floor. Finlay tells Jonah to get back in the ring but Jonah is done for tonight.

Match Number Four: Jay White and Hikuleo versus Alex Zayne and Yuya Uemura

Uemura and White start things off and White with kicks and forearms in the corner. Uemura with forearms and White with a side head lock. Uemura with an arm drag into an arm bar. Uemura with an Irish whip but White with a boot. Uemura with an arm drag into an arm bar. White tries to escape but Uemura holds on to the arm bar. White pulls the hair and connects with knees against the ropes. Uemura with a flying forearm and arm drag into an arm bar.

White with an Irish whip and he chokes Uemura in the corner. Hikuleo tags in and Uemura with forearms to fight out of the corner. Uemura with chop sand forearms to Hikuleo. Hikuleo blocks an arm drag and Hikuleo sends Uemura face first into the mat. Hikuleo with a chop. Hikuleo with a Jericho cover for a near fall. Hikuleo sends Uemura into the turnbuckles and White tags in and gets a series of near falls.

White with a slam and he gets a near fall. White goes for a Boston Crab but Uemura blocks it. White with kicks to the head but he cannot apply the Boston Crab. Uemura with a kick. White with a chop and Uemura with a drop kick. Zayne tags in and punches White. Zayne with a discus clothesline and he drop kicks Hikuleo off the apron. Zayne with chops and a leg sweep followed by a leaping senton leg drop.

White with elbows. Zayne goes for a back breaker but White with knees to escape. White goes for a suplex and Zayne escapes. Uemura tags in and drop kicks White but Hikuleo attacks Uemura from behind. Uemura moves and Hikuleo hits the turnbuckles. Uemura with a drop kick. Uemura with a slam and elbow drop for a near fall. White with forearms to the back of the head. Uemura with a European uppercut and he misses a Saito Suplex when White lands on his feet and pulls Uemura to the mat. Hikuleo tags in and he goes for a slam but Uemura escapes and Uemura avoids a clothesline. Zayne tags in and connects with forearms and chops. Zayne with a jumping forearm and an enzuigiri. Hikuleo with a clothesline and he gets Zayne up but Uemura makes the save. Uemrua with a belly-to-back suplex. White with a Blade Runner to Uemura and then he goes for it on Zayne but Zayne escapes.

White with an elbow and Zayne with a jumping rana off the turnbuckles. Zayne avoids a choke slam and goes up top and misses the double stomp. Hikuleo with a choke slam and a Michinoku Driver for the three count.

Winners: Jay White and Hikuleo

After the match, Jay takes the mic.

Jay says originally his plan was to the open the door on New Japan Strong and have an open challenge for the Never Openweight Championship. As we can all see, that championship is gone. Jay says that championship is gone, but I am not. Someone said I am bigger than any f***ing championship any way.

Why don’t I leave the door wide open to New Japan Strong. I will make an open invitation to anybody from any company who wants to step up to the best wrestler in the world. I mean anyone. Any company. I see there is a lot of young talent out there looking for their big break and big chance out there.

People like Chris Sabin. He says Chris could have quite a future in wrestling as long as he keeps his knees healthy. Another young kid trying to make a name for himself . . . Chris Jericho. He can step in the ring with him to make a name for himself. How about some local talent in Los Angeles. Jay mentions a local young kid trying to catch a break . . . Christopher Daniels. Young challengers looking for their chance. I am going to do you a favor and make you famous. How about you meet me at Nemesis in Hollywood where you can finally catch your break. Step up and accept my challenge.
