Best of Super Juniors 28 Matches:
2. DOUKI vs. Taiji Ishimori
Back and forth battle. Ishimori targeted DOUKI’s left arm. DOUKI came back and hit a Daybreaker. Ishimori barely kicked out at two. DOUKI went for a Suplex de La Luna but Ishimori reverses into a Bone Lock. DOUKI goes for the ropes. Ishimori drags him back to the middle of the ring. DOUKI rolls out of the Bone Lock and applies the Italian Stretch No. 32. Ishimori tries to power out of the hold. Both men get to their feet. Ishimori takes down DOUKI with Mistica and applies the Bone Lock again.
DOUKI taps out. Ishimori gets the win and 2 points.
3. YOH vs. Yoshinobu Kanemaru
Kanemaru attacked YOH’s leg, setting him up for a figure four leg lock. YOH fights through the pain and grabs Kanemaru in an O’Conner Roll.
YOH pins Kanemaru.
YOH is slowly gaining momentum in the BOSJ 28. He is only one victory behind the leader, SHO. YOH is playing the role of a babyface that takes a beating, absorbs a lot of punishment, but uses his wrestling ability to outsmart his opponent to get a win. Almost like the ultimate underdog role.
4. Ryusuke Taguchi vs. El Phantasmo
A bunch of athletic comedy spots in this match. ELP did a crazy top rope walk and jump off the ropes. Taguchi tried to do it and he crotched himself on the top rope. Then it became a wrestling match. There was a series of reversals on pinfalls. Taguchi rolled ELP in a small package. Two count. ELP rolled Taguchi on his shoulders while in the small package. Two count. Both men then rolled around the ring in a circle while still in the small package. ELP let go and both were dazed. ELP picked up Taguchi in an airplane spin. They both fell to the mat, all dizzy. Taguchi stumbled and fell into the ropes. He was still dazed. ELP saw his chance and went to hit Sudden Death. Taguchi moves and ELP crotches himself on the second rope. Taguchi covers him for the pin. ELP kicks out and throws his shoulder off the mat, but in doing so, he low blows Taguchi. ELP rolls to the edge of the ring and pretends to vomit, due to dizziness and getting hit in the privates. He tells the referee to clean the mess. As the referee is distracted, he hits Sudden Death in Taguchi’s gut. ELP grabs a wrist lock and the referee turns and sees Taguchi tapping out.
El Phantasmo wins.
The Japanese announcers were shocked that the referee called the match on a wrist lock. Phantasmo was posing in the ring as if he had won a Title match. As he was walking back to the locker room, Phantasmo looked into the camera and said “Hey, SHO boy, there is a new submission king in town.”
Neither man may win this tournament but this was an entertaining and fun match. Taguchi and ELP can wrestle when the moment calls for it. In this match, they played it all up for fun. And the audience bought into it all. Even the announcers. ELP could have channeled the House of Torture and kicked Taguchi in the face, but he got the submission instead.
I feel that with El Phantasmo’s words and mannerisms are leading toward an angle that will affect all of Bullet Club, and redefine what Bullet Club will be in the months to come.
5. Robbie Eagles vs. SHO
SHO tried all his tricks in this match. Eagles was prepared. Eagles got caught in the Snake Bite but was able to escape. Eagles applied the Ron Miller Special.
SHO taps out.
Good match. SHO’s tricks were kept to a minimum. Eagles looked great and he is now tied for second place.
6. Master Wato vs. Hiromu Takahashi
Very competitive match. Hiromu avoided an RPP and followed up with a lariat and a Time Bomb II.
Hiromu pins Wato.
Fast paced match which was tough to recap. When you see Wato from his debut two years ago, till now where he takes Hiromu to the limit, I think Wato has improved tremendously. He should be able to compete for a title opportunity, perhaps find a partner to compete for the Jr. Tag Team belts.
7. BUSHI vs. El Desperado
BUSHI attacked Desperado at the bell. BUSHI was very aggressive in the early moments. Another fast paced match. Desperado hits Pinche Loco.
Desperado pins BUSHI.
Great match. Best match I have seen from BUSHI in a while.
