ROLLINS ATTACKER SPEAKS OUT

By Mike Johnson on 2021-11-24 15:14:00

Elisah Spencer, who was arrested this past Monday after tackling and attempting to assault WWE star Seth Rollins spoke to The New York Daily News today, claiming that he had a legitimate beef with Rollins that it would appears stems from Spencer falling for a fake Rollins social media profile.

“I apologized to the WWE for my actions,” Spencer told The Daily News.  “I had a legitimate beef but as a grown man I could have settled it a different way ... If I saw him today I wouldn’t attack him. I’ve moved on.”

Spencer claimed that he met Rollins at a meet and greet some time ago and then interacted with him on social media, apparently falling prey to a scam that saw Spencer send the fake Rollins money.  When it came time for the money to be returned, the check "bounced", leading to Spencer's actions.  It is pretty apparent from the article that unfortunately, Spencer fell for a catfishing scheme that had zero involvement from the legitimate Rollins.

The real Seth Rollins spoke with TMZ last night about the attempted assault this past Monday when Spencer hopped the railing at Brooklyn's Barclays Center and tackled him as Rollins was returning to the locker room following an angle with Finn Balor during a live broadcast of Monday Night Raw.

"It's terrifying, brother," Rollins told TMZ.  "It happened very quickly. I was mostly just reacting and hoping that our security would come and do their job. Which they did very quickly. And then was just trying to detach and move on. Hope that everybody is okay."

After being tackled, Rollins went down but grabbed Spencer with a front facelock as soon as they hit the ground.  As Spencer slipped out, WWE referee Eddie Orengo dove down on Spencer, holding him down.    Several other officials and Barclays Center security staff dove on the pile as Rollins moved away. Spencer was escorted up the stairs out of the Barclays Center and into the concourse of the arena, where he was taken into custody by NYPD.  Rollins was not injured beyond a swelled lip and returned later on in the evening to take part in the main event of Raw.   Rollins declined medical attention.

Rollins shot down that the incident was part of WWE's plans, commenting, "once the tackle happened I knew what was going on. The guy was barreling around the corner."

Spencer has been charged by the New York Police Department with attempted assault and attempted violation of arts and cultural affairs (aka disrupting a live sporting event)   He was released from custody yesterday.

WWE issued the following to PWInsider.com when asked for comment:

“WWE takes the safety of its performers very seriously. The individual who attacked Seth Rollins has been turned over to the NYPD and will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

This is the second instance of a fan attacking a WWE personality inside the Barclays Center.  In April 2019, a crazed fan tackled WWE Hall of Famer Bret Hart, also knocking down Natalya, in the midst of the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony as the pair were inducting the late Jim Neidhart.   How that criminal case was resolved is unknown.
