Roman Reigns appeared on The Rich Eisen Show on Peacock yesterday to promote the 2021 Survivor Series PPV.
Reigns was calling in from the Smackdown taping in Hartford.
Eisen asked what fans cou expect from the PPV. He said if you've been a wrestling fan, you have seen him on the journey he's been on. Reigns said he's just trying to stay in the groove he's been in. He's trying to defend the WWE Universal Champion. They're approaching 450 days as champion, so he's trying to maintain that and keep it up. He wants another big win at the PPV.
Reigns was asked about his health after his battle with leukemia. He said he feels great. Anyone who's been through a health scare knows it has to be the number one priority. Reigns noted that a lot of people struggle with putting their health above everything else but if we can't take of ourselves, we can't take care of anyone else. As a husband and father, you are constantly thinking about others, but you have to love yourself and keep yourself healthy in order to be there for them. Longevity is key and he's done a lot of things to really improve his fitness and his health. The journey is going well but it's a marathon not a sprint.
Roman was asked about his college football career. He started out at Georgia Tech as a defensive end. His first bout with leukemia, at that time, especially since he was so young, put an asterisk on him. He was trying hard to build to technique and play with your hands and feet. It was a journey.
He was asked the best Quarterback he ever sacked. He said he "smacked" Brady Quinn a few times back in his senior year. He doesn't remember if he ever sacked Phillip Rivers but he got in his face as a freshman.
When asked about the hardest hit he ever delivered, he said it was QB for Auburn for Brandon Cox. He hit his arm and Cox turned and Roman took "his head off" before joking "it would not hold up in today's game." Reigns said they might have taken him out of two or three games today for it, admitting it was on the "dirtier end" of hitting a QB. He had gained explosive hand movement. You would have thought the other guy was a pro wrestler the way he went down.
Roman said that had he been healthy, he believed he would have made the NFL. He was pretty smart in the defensive game and had leadership qualities. He believes he would have made it and had a decent career.
Reigns said his entire family are 49ers fans. He was asked about the current state of the team. He said he doesn't even know what happened on Monday, he's been so busy. He said Steve Young, Jerry Rice, Ken Norton Jr. and so many others were his favorites. He said there have been so many greats who went through the Bay area.
TJ from the show asked to join Roman Reigns' Bloodline. Roman referred him to Paul Heyman for a second interview. When it was noted TJ tried to do this with Bobby Lashley, Roman pointed out that group imploded but he's still going strong.
